Work Text:

Shhhkk. Shhk. drip. drop.

Blood poured out of his dark skinned arms. If only Mikhail was here, he would’ve stopped me. Alexsei sat on the edge of their shared bed and continued to mar his flesh with wound after wound.

Misha won’t be happy when he comes home.

His boyfriend had been gone for the past seven months. Deployed in an ongoing war that he had nothing to do with.

Maybe he moved on. He’s not coming back.

Alexsei stared at the dark liquid seeping out of his previously healed skin, not a single emotion displayed on his face.

Dried tears irritated his skin but that was the least of his worries now. All he could think about was Mikhail.

If you’ve moved on then just tell me. It's far better than waiting for you.

Alexsei laid back on their bed, staring up at the ceiling. He couldn’t tell how much blood he was losing and he didn’t quite care at the moment. He just wanted his beloved.

Come back, Misha. I miss you.

He awoke with his body submerged in a bathtub. He must’ve passed out. He couldn’t quite tell what was happening beyond his head pounding. The lights in their bathroom were far too bright.

How did I.. Is there someone here?

Alexsei squinted his eyes to try to refocus his vision but to no avail. He sighed as his body protested. It looks like he will be here for a while.

Someone came rushing into the room and ran right up to the tub. They sighed when they saw that Alexsei was safe and hadn’t moved.

Alexsei forced himself to open his eyes again and a tall silhouette came into view as a blurry shape. Though, the colors were still there.

That blue.. Is that..?

“Oh Alyoshka.. Hello my dear..”

The voice sounded extremely familiar, Alexsei just couldn’t be bothered to place it. His vision was very slowly focusing as the man stroked his hair. Alexsei leaned into it almost immediately. It felt so safe. So warm.

“I need you to listen to me, okay? You don’t have to talk, just listen.”

Alexsei was listening. Their voice calmed him down almost instantly, he couldn’t help but listen.

“I know I have been gone for so long… There’s nothing that I want more than to stay with you. Even so, I want you to be strong.. Please..”

Their voice had begun to crack as their tone lowered to a whisper, touching their forehead to Alexsei’s.

“Please… don’t do this again.. If I wasn’t here to help you would’ve-”

They cut themselves off with a choked sob and Alexsei immediately felt an intense need to comfort them. Well, who were they in the first place? Alexsei’s thoughts began to reorient themselves as his vision slowly cleared. He focused hard on the person by his side as long cerulean blue hair came into focus, their sharp features hardened from countless battlefields. It was Mikhail. The same one that had been gone for seven months without so much as a word to him.

Overcome by emotions, Alexsei suddenly wrapped his soaking wet arms around the man he missed the most. Mikhail was stunned for only a moment before returning his embrace. He did not care in the slightest that his clothes were getting wet. It just didn't matter.

“You.. asshole… seven months.. Without a word..”

Alexsei’s voice began to crack as well as he started to sob and pull weakly on his beloved’s hair. It's what he deserved after all.

“I know… Believe me, I know…”

“You know nothing!”

Alexsei snapped at him and pulled back to look into his eyes with tears falling from his own.
“Everything is so much harder without you! I can hardly stand it! Seven months, Mikhail!!”

Alexsei broke down sobbing once more, his arms giving out and causing him to fall into his lover’s chest.

Mikhail embraced him again. He would do it a hundred times more if it meant that he could be forgiven. Unfortunately, that's not how it works.

“I’m so sorry… I’m here now.. I’ll be here for as long as you want me to be..”

“Forever! I always want you here!”

Mikhail ran his fingers through his beloved’s damp hair and kissed his head.

“As you wish..”

Alexsei paused and looked up at his lover with wide, tear soaked eyes.

“Really? You’ll stay if I tell you to?”

Mikhail smiled at him and kissed his forehead, which the other melted into immediately.

“Yes. I swear by it.”

Alexsei smiled and embraced his lover again as tight as he could even through the protesting of his wounds.

“You better not be lying… I’ll kick your ass.”

“Yes, sir.” Mikhail chuckled softly, God that laugh was heavenly as it rung in Alexsei’s head.

They embraced for a while longer before Mikhail scooped Alexsei up into his arms. “Let’s get you dressed my love.. I think we should have a slow night tonight.”

Alexsei did nothing to protest and leaned into his lover with a content smile on his face.

Mikhail carried Alexsei to their connected bedroom and dressed him like he was made of glass and could shatter at any moment. Alexsei didn’t really mind the special treatment so he didn’t say anything.

After he dressed Alexsei and changed out the bandages on his lover’s arm. Mikhail joined the other in their bed. At long last, they were together again.

They laid in silence for a few minutes before Mikhail wrapped his arms around the other and spooned him for the first time in seven months. God, how he missed this.

Alexsei melted into his lover’s embrace, This is what he needed. All was well in the world.

It didn’t take long for Alexsei to fall asleep afterward. His beloved’s embrace was the perfect environment for his exhaustion to take over.

It should’ve been the same for MIkhail. He had been deployed for over half a year! Still, he couldn’t fall asleep. He watched as his boyfriend’s chest rose and fell as he peacefully slept.

His eyes drifted to the bandages on his right arm. I should’ve gotten here sooner. Mikhail cursed himself even if he was trying to get home as fast as possible as soon as he got discharged, he wasn’t fast enough. He blamed himself for it but he was determined to make things right. He had to.

In the end, Mikhail didn’t end up falling asleep. Not in the normal way anyway. He was spaced out for most of the night, running through countless things he could have done differently to keep his lover safe. Even on the other side of the world, he was constantly thinking of him.

Through all of his internal debates with himself, the sun had finally started to rise. He put a hand over his lover’s sleeping eyes to keep out the sun. Why was the curtain even open anyways? Whatever, he would just have to fix it later.

The sun continued to rise as it grew later into the morning. It was now 10 in the morning, 3 hours after Alexsei usually wakes up and he was still asleep.

Mikhail watched his chest fall closely. He was determined to not let his beloved get hurt a second time.

About an hour later, Alexsei began to stir. He reoriented himself so that his face was buried in Mikhail’s chest once again.

Mikhail smiled and ran his hand through his beloved’s hair, kissing his head so sweetly.

“Good morning, Alyoshka.”

Alexsei only replied with an acknowledging hum and buried himself deeper into his lover’s warmth.

Mikhail’s skin was soft. It was rather strange. He had been fighting in a war until literally yesterday but his skin was still so smooth, at least on his chest.

Alexsei held him tighter and rubbed his face on his boyfriend’s chest. He wishes he would just resign already. He’s been fighting battles for too long.

“Do you want to get up now?”

Alexsei shook his head and tilted it to look at his boyfriend as Mikhail met his eyes.

“What do you want to do then? We can’t stay in bed all day..”

Alexsei didn’t say anything, didn’t even acknowledge that Mikhail had even said something. Just stared up at him.

“Alyoshka? Are you sleeping with your eyes open?”

Mikhail smiled down at his lover and waited for a response that simply never came.

“Hey sleepy head~ You want to respond to me? Tell me that you’re alive hm?”

Mikhail waited for a response once again but all he got was a slow blink. At least it was something, intentional or not.

Mikhail decided not to talk anymore. He simply smiled down at his lover and waited for him to acknowledge him.

After about 2 minutes he got a bit irritated that he wasn’t getting a response.

“Hey. Alexsei.” Mikhail pouted and poked his lover’s cheek to no avail.

“Alyoshka. What are you doing?” He was in fact doing absolutely nothing and that was the problem.

Mikhail decided that he had to do something, literally anything. He checked his pulse, fine. He checked his breathing, fine. He looked awake but there was nothing to indicate that he was listening.

“You’re scaring me.” Mikhail started to get mildly concerned as he poked the other’s cheek again.

Alexsei was still just staring up at Mikhail, god he was cute when he was panicking over him. It made him want to-

Mikhail jolted when Alexsei leaned in to kiss him, his tongue immediately found its way to entwine with Mikhail’s as his hands moved to cup the other’s cheeks automatically.

Before Mikhail could catch up to what was happening, Alexsei got on top of Mikhail and felt below his shirt, taking it off as he pulled away to catch his breath.

Mikhail’s hair was sprawled out on the pillow below him as he breathed heavily. He looked so blissed out already, exactly what Alexsei had been missing.

“Let me know if it gets too much..” Alexsei dipped his head and nipped at Mikhail’s neck, leaving marks as he descended the man’s pale skinned body.
