Chapter Text
Leo stretched as he woke up. His joints creaked. He felt stiff like he'd been sleeping for a while, but not rested. His head was throbbing, too. Ugh. Worst kind of sleep. Bad nap style sleep.
When he opened his eyes again, Leo realised maybe his post-long-nap troubles were the least of his worries. He wasn't even in his room. He was in the medbay. What happened?
The last thing he remembered (through the fuzz and static in his brain which wow definitely a good sign that his head felt like a cotton ball had morphed into a bruise), he thinks, was playing in the arcade with his brothers. So… something had happened after that that landed him in the medbay with a hit to his head.
Clearly it couldn't be that bad because he could still remember his own name and nobody was in here watching over him. Leo elected to get out of this bed and go find his brothers. It wouldn't be fair if they got to brag about being in some awesome fight and he didn't even get to know what happened.
The medbay door was… in a different spot? Okay, weird. And now that Leo thought about it this whole room looked different. Familiar but missing the same layout and setup as the medbay he knew. But that couldn't be right.
Leo continued out into the hallway on his guard. His knee twinged. Weird. It was familiar, but different too. What if he wasn't at home with his brothers? What if this was someplace completely different? It looked it-
But no. Leo heard Mikey's unmistakeable laugh. He followed it to an open area in the not-lair. All his brothers were there.
They'd have answers.
Leo leaned casually against the entranceway. "Hey bros, whats up?"
"Leo!" Mikey exclaimed. Was it just him or was Mikey a bit taller?
Donnie looked exasperated. "Of course I leave the medbay for ten minutes and thats when he decides to wake up." He rolled his eyes.
Leo snorted and sauntered into the space. "So what happened to me to get me stuck in that medbay? Which villain was it? Was the fight cool?"
Donnie stilled. Raph's brow creased. Mikey sounded confused. "Leo, you're acting kinda weird."
He pulled a face, ready to respond when he did a double take at Raph. His eye was… pink, and was the skin around it scarred?
"Woah, Raphadoodle, what happened to your eye?" Leo wanted to lighten this strange tension and find out what was going on already. Maybe asking directly was the best bet? Raph never had that pinkish hue before, so it must be related to whatever got them stuck here, right?
But Raph's face got serious (and sad, devastated even). "Not funny, Leo-"
Before Raph could start on whatever that was another voice entered their tense conversation. "Maste- Leonardo! You're awake!"
Leo turned, though he didn't know this voice. Turned out he didn't know the face either because it was some older human teen(?). He had black hair and stubble and an unusual fashion sense. Maybe it was some new human trend, Leo considered himself updated but he couldn't keep up with everything.
"Heyyyy. Who are you, exactly?" Leo took a step back. Maybe these were some sort of concussion-hallucination-thingys, because it was way too weird to be real. A complete stranger human teen who knew Leo's name and wasn't freaking out at him and his brothers? Yeah right. There were weirder things in New York but that didn't mean they were okay with being seen by 100% of the general population. And his brothers were acting weird.
He thinks the guy says something as he steps closer to Leo, but his head is fuzzy again with that cottonny feeling and he focuses in on something else. "Is that a chainsaw hockey stick?"
The human seems taken aback by Leo's attitude. He can't know Leo that well then, if he didn't know about his glowing personality. Which had obviously informed him to show this human that he knew awesome when he saw it. Leo had good taste.
That was apparently Mikey's cue to gently touch Leo's arm, but before he could relieve his confused expression and ask Leo something Raph chimed in.
"Leo! What the hell is this? What's going on with you?!"
And, oh, that made a spark of anger shoot through Leo. Like they'd been helpful? He'd just gotten out of the medbay and had no idea what was going on and they were all treating him like he was the crazy one. Even though they were just acting like this was a regular Tuesday. (His head hurt.)
"What do you mean whats wrong with me?" Leo laughed sourly. "Whats up with you guys? Who is this guy?" He gestured to the human. Who looked hurt and lost. (As if it wasn't Leo who should be hurt and lost, he was the one who had no idea where they even were) "Why are you all acting so weird towards me? Where even are we?"
His big brother snapped from furious to concerned so quick Leo wasn't sure if he should be the one concerned for Raph's face muscles. Mikey took his hands to stop his wild gesturing. "Leo, its the lair. You don't-?"
And that's when Leo realised Donnie hadn't moved or spoken this whole time.
He turned to face his twin, ignoring whatever Mikey had said. It could wait. Donnie looked sick. He was as 'green' as Leo thought a turtle could get, and looking at him. (His head hurt)
"Don-Tron, you good?" Leo almost forgot about the situation at hand with his brother looking this distressed. He knew how Donnie could get sometimes and deescalation was always important. It could wait.
Donnies voice was shocked but firm. Mechanical arms extended from his battle shell to grab Leo firmly. "You-" he took a deep breath. "Leo you need to go back to the medbay. Now, please."
