Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

“I dont want those strings attached relationships, they are a hassle and a pain in the ass—” A pause “and thats why I keep you around, Youre not gonna betray me and confess are you?” He asked, eyes prying into hers

“of course not..” she murmured

“Good.”

Thinking back then, she shouldve realized that he will never see her on an equal footing.

--

“Well, whats a cutie doing out in this part of town?"

Kouzu couldnt help but shiver at the voice— Raspy and deep— Words thats slurred. It is very obvious this guy has some bad addiction

“All alone.." The man muttered, seemingly smirking to himself like a maniac.

She stayed quiet and continued walking, having found out the hard way that its better to ignore them than feed their ego by talking to them and correcting them and after just a few steps the man seems to have bene startled by something before a melodic voice rang through out the empty street.

“You seem pretty drunk old man, How about taking a nap right over here?" The man, startled and still caught off was thrown onto the ground roughly along with the trash. “Try to not prey on women..” a pause before the voice spoke again. "Especially ones whos already caught in someone's web hm?” He hummed before walking towards Kouzu.

She looked at him with sparkling eyes— as if seeing a savior— her own knight in shining armor. The man, terrified out of his wits, ran away as soon as he walked towards her. Finally, he stopped in front of her before leaning down to match her eyes' "Now, why ARE YOU in this part of town?" He asked, hands clasped behind his back and head tilted to the left. His pink hair flowing down his shoulders as his bangs covered his left eye and still she can fear his burning gaze.

She cleared her throat before looking away. Was it from shame? Embarrassment? Fear? Or was she just shy from his gaze? She couldnt tell anymore as he makes her feel emotions she have never felt before until she met him.

“Im sorry Chihaya, I was just on my way to see where you were..You didnt come home you know” She said with a small smile, She can feel her hands sweating as she gripped the hem of her skirt.

He hummed with a frown as he stood straight, Standing tall against the moonlight. “Home? Kouzu, you must be mistaking something again.” he murmured before he grabbed her cheeks roughly with his hand. "Thats YOUR home and for me? thats just some place to crash in” He said with a smile before letting her go.

She felt her cheeks stinging from pain and even without a mirror she can tell that her cheeks are bright red but the pain cant compare to the ache she felt in her chest.

Why cant he see her the way she sees him? What us it that she lacks? Thoughts kept on running through her head until finally she cracked as Chihaya lit up a cigarette— Obviously annoyed with her little fantasy— he blew a smoke before Kouzu grabbed him by the wrist startling him enough to make him loose grip of the cigarette making it fall down the ground.

“Cant you just pretend? I wont even force you to do all those lovey dovey shit the others do!” She yelled, tears stinging her eyes as gripped his wrist tight.

‘cant it be me that he only thinks about?’ ’Why cant he just pretend at least so he doesnt hurt me? does he enjoy my heartbreak?' and while these thoughts run through her mind, she didnt notice how his fists and jaw clenched. Before he grabbed her by the hair with his free hand pulling back making her bare her neck to him.

“How fucking dare you? what I do and what I dont do isnt none of your business.” He goes through gritted teeth before crouching down and grabbing a hold of his cigarette, still burning lightly and emitting a smoke. “You were more obedient before so what happened now huh?” He muttered before gripping her hair tighter making her wince in pain

He then proceeded to press the burning cigarette against her bare neck, making her gasp and yelp in pain as tears finally rolled down her face. Her hands— which were gripping her clothes— now clawed at his hands and wrist that holds her hair and kept her in place.

He let go making her drop down onto her knees as she choked and held onto her newly created wound— It hurts. It hurts so much.

She gagged as she felt disgusted..but at what exactly?

She crawled over to him, clung to his legs before finally crying out koud enough for him to hear— “im sorry. Im sorry. Please dont leave me. I was wrong, I crossed the boundary im sorry ..Please just dont abandon me” She repeated again and again the same words.

He looked over at her before crouching down and holding her cheek softly. His eyes softer and his expression that of a hurt owner who just disciplined their disobedient pet. "I dont even wanna hurt you Kouzu..Youre so dear to me you know?” He whispered as he brushed back her hair— now a tangled mess— before rubbing her wounded neck softly and pressing light only to hear her whimper in pain

He sighed before kissing her cheeks and helping her stand up. He then proceeded to crouch down in front of her before telling her to get on his back for a piggy back ride. She obliged.

and the walk 'home' felt unbearably awkward. With her small sniffles and his short mutterings of "煩い" (Shut up) gripping her thighs slightly to make her know that hes getting annoyed by her immaturity and just when she was starting to fall asleep he declared something that caught her off guard that her brain was jolted back awake.

“Ill date you.“ He said, so calmly that Kouzu thought she was just dream or once again hallucinating (which has happened more than 5 times already) She stayed silent for a moment before finally understanding his words better now

“Youll date me?” Chihaya frowned with annoyance before gripping her thighs tight again “are you deaf or just stupid? Just choose one.” He said with annoyance before finally listing down a bunch of stuff

“But you must not call me everyday, come to me everyday, ask me out everyday or even ask where I am. I do what I want to do snd I dont want that stupid jealousy of yours about me hanging around with girls but you must be devoted ONLY TO ME. You cant be with other guys even if they are your friends and I want you to only talk to me.” He finally finished after a minute of speaking before trying to look at her “Got it?”

Kouzu looked at him and with an oblivious and stupid grin she nodded happily. Not even noticing the obscured things he said. Words that arent even veiled or sugarcoated, Obviously more on favor with him than with her and yet she looked so blissful as if she had won the lottery.

How stupid.

--

The way they met wasnt a good memory but it is memorable. Seeing Chihaya slumped over the wall of some dark alleyway with his body beat up— yet somehow his face only got minor scratches— Kouzu, who can leave someone obliviously needing help went ahead and dragged his unconscious body to her house

Patching him up there and letting him stay until he woke up and upon seeing her..He found her interesting. She wore her heart on her sleeves, let her emotions get the best of her and just basically stupid.

And because of that very nature of her, She caught his interest. How long till he breaks her and finally get this innocent lamb realize that she have saved one of her primary predator but it is not only her who caught his attention because she herself found HIM equally interesting.

A man, whom was beaten up to pulp over some girl who he had under the sheets relations with (Sex as he explained) seemed so lost and alone even with the amount of girls snd people he mentioned.

Maybe— and just maybe— she could be the light that would save him.

She just didnt think she could dim while overusing her light on one person who doesnt care about her existence until she dims out.
