Chapter Text

Hiding under a desk is pretty pathetic, don't you think?

Especially getting up earlier, getting in as soon as the gates open to hide under a desk.

As people started to arrive you could hear the noise level rise. You just hoped no one would find you and ask what you were doing. Your uncle had yelled at you last night. Really...really bad. You'd gotten home a little later because of a training session with Mr. Aizawa. He'd said you were supposed to pick him up a case of beer, which had completely slipped your mind. Also, you weren't old enough to buy beers so you had to steal them. What kind of aspiring hero steals? The kind trying to survive, obviously. Last night, though, he had gotten very mad at you for this reason, he almost broke your nose. He didn't have a very flashy quirk, but it was one that enhanced his strength with his anger. Unlucky for you, his day had also been horrible to him. You'd escaped to your room and curled up in the comforting mattress. That was all you had. No blankets, no anything. But it was comforting nonetheless. This morning, after you got your uniform on, you tied your hair back and climbed down the window, scaling the house. Your hands give a faint pulse of pain as you lean back on them. You hear Kirishima come in with his loud, enthusiastic voice. Which is quickly followed by an angry, rougher voice calling him an idiot.

Bakugo had always scared you. It was probably the sheer amount of yelling. Of course, a hero can't be afraid of yelling, so you've never told anyone that. However, whenever you're alone with him you try to avoid him or be as far from him as possible. You hadn't really thought this through. The hiding under the desk. You couldn't get out without causing a scene. But, of course, when trying to flee, there's never really a straight plan in place. Maybe there is. Step 1: Get away, Step 2: Stay away, Step 3: There is no step 3, just stay away. That's basically all your plans. Every single time you've ran away, even only for a bit, you've always failed Step 3. You've got nowhere to go, so it only makes sense to go back. Or maybe it makes less sense to go back. You just wanted somewhere to stay. You knew that if anyone found you, you'd be sent to child services. And there's so much hassle with that. You know your parents aren't dead. They just didn't want you. Well, okay, not that they didn't want you, they just couldn't have you. They were struggling financially, they probably still are. You wouldn't know, you're uncle tried to keep you away from any information about them. Anything at all. You don't have a phone or a TV or any access to the news except for school. You're surprised you're even able to be at UA, you were let in on recommendation.

As the class continues to grow louder, you hear your name start to surface. You've never missed a day of school in your life. Any excuse to get away from your uncle is perfect. You wouldn't pass it up for anything. Plus, you're super determined every day so you can get into a promising agency (or even build up your own) and get away from your uncle. So, obviously, it's very concerning to everyone when you don't show up for the first time in...ever. It first starts with Midoriya, the most observant one. Which then riles up Bakugo who yells at him for "noticing before him". This quickly breaks into a squabble between the two until it's broken up by the only boy who Bakugo really listens to. Quickly playing the mediator, Kirishima calms the two down then quickly brings the subject back to you being MIA. Iida finds this to be concerning, as he shouts to the class about you. Saying how they should "mind their business" and just "be there if you need something". Whatever to that. You wouldn't talk to any of them if the world were ending. Except maybe Kirishima. And Ochaco. And Todoroki. Okay, maybe Midoriya too. Okay, yeah, you'd talk to them. But not really tell them what's going on. Not about your uncle. Never about your uncle. You hear the door slide open once more. Heavier steps this time. Aizawa-Sensei. Shit. You really didn't think this through. You hear the weighted footsteps pause at what you assume is the lecture stand, a deep sigh from your tired mentor before he speaks in that same gruff voice.

"Alright, let's get started."
