Chapter Text
1. Attic
The attic in Kimi's house was dark and dusty, the only light coming from the small round window in the corner.
Cardboar boxes were stacked everywhere, Christmas decorations and old karting equipment scattering the floor.
After Kimi's mom demanded Kimi finally sort the latter out, he called Ollie with a sugary sweet voice and the promise of ice cream afterwards. Ollie could practically see his puppy eyes and smug grin through the phone.
So there they were.
Kimi looking through some boxes and Ollie sneezing behind him.
Because apparently he completely forgot about his dust allergy. Or he just didn't care enough, because after all, it was Kimi who asked him to hang out.
Even if this hang out involved a hot attic and a lot of junk.
And all of this for what? So Kimi could find his old karting helmet.
The two boys got to know each other on the go kart track when both still were small enough to believe in the big Formula 1 dream.
Now they were about to finish school and karting moved into the background.
Kimi would probably start his engineering career or become a mechanic. Something with hands, practical thinking and maths for sure.
Ollie wasn't sure yet. He thought about literature, about writing, but he wasn't ready to make a decision yet.
The only thing Ollie was sure about is that he would miss Kimi.
For sure they wouldn't go to the same university, if both of them even went to university.
They probably wouldn't see each other as often anymore.
That's why Ollie was trying to spend as much time with Kimi as he could.
He knew they don't have time anymore. Not really.
Ollie spend his whole life thinking about later. He was sure he had time. Time to think about feelings, about what he wanted.
And now it was coming closer, and he still had no idea. Not even a little.
The only thing he was sure about was that he would miss Kimi.
And right now, shoulder to shoulder with Kimi in a dusty attic, it was Ollie's favourite place on the whole earth.
He turned his head to face Kimi, who was already looking at him.
Playful grin vanished, brown eyes glimmering.
His lips tasted faintly of dust and chocolate and just Kimi.
Ollie still didn't know. Didn't know what he said wanted. Didn't know about his feelings.
The only thing he was sure about was that he would miss Kimi. Maybe even more now.
But maybe he wouldn't have to miss him. At least not what could've been. Because it had been.
