I Know You Too Well To Like You Anymore

Summary:

Uhhh this is based off of a video I saw on tt, @fintybaibai. Also "I Know You Too Well To Like You Anymore" by Reel Big Fish. A GREAT SONG

Notes:

Sprout and Cosmo were made for eachother, it started off well, they did as they were told. But eventually, they grew to despise eachother, not being able to leave the others side due to how they were made to depend on the other.

Work Text:

"You're a son of a bitch, you know that?"

Sprout stares at the burning oven, then at Cosmo in disbelief.

"Me? YOU'RE the one who distracted me from the oven! I can't stand you nagging at me for 'icing the cookies wrong!'"

"Oh yeah? It's not my fault you would've spewed all the icing everywhere if I hadn't stopped you."

"Oh you're really a pain in my-"

Sprout gets cut off by the gradual increase of volume in footsteps from the distance. He panics and throws his arms to the nearby paper towel, cleaning up the icing. Cosmo runs to the fire extinguisher and aims it at the oven.

"Wow you guys made a big mess, huh?" Connie's voice pierces through the beeping of the oven. She floats over and waves her hand on a small flame, immediately extinguishing it. "Perks of being a ghost, am I right?"

Gigi walks in right after Connie, Flutter by her side. "Dude, you guys totally wrecked this place. Mwehehe" Gigi chuckles to herself as she strolls over to watch Sprout and Cosmo panic.

"!!!"

"You're right, Flutter. Since they look busy we couldn't come and steal some snacks!" Gigi disappointedly groans, Gigi and Flutter turn around and leave the kitchen. Connie stares at the two bakers before eventually following her friends out.

Sprout waves them off with a cherry facade. "Don't worry about us! Have a good day!" He waits to see if there are any other toons around before he angrily snaps to Cosmo. "Hurry up with this!" Cosmo glares at Sprout before finishing the job.

Cosmo gently puts the fire extinguisher back in it's place, he turns to Sprout. "Fortunately, I get to go hang out with Ginger, leaving you to be all lonely and sad because you don't have any other friends!"

"H-hey!" Sprout stutters out, "I have friends! And they're all better than you!" He points a finger at Cosmo accusingly.

Cosmo rolls his eyes, takes his apron off, flips Sprout off, and exits the kitchen. Sprout reciprocates the gesture, cleaning up a bit more before eventually leaving the space as well.

"What do I do now? I don't really separate from Cosmo often, maybe I can talk to Astro?" Sprout giggles to himself at the thought, Astro and him having a cute conversation, Astro leans in slowly, Sprout gets taken off guard by a small kis-

"Shit!"

Sprout had walked into a wall while daydreaming.

"Ah! Are you okay?" A practically angelic voice flooded Sprout's ears, it was so calming, so serene, it was Astro's! Well, speak of the devil. Or angel to Sprout's mind.

Astro rushed over and reached for Sprout's hand with his stars, Sprout rubbed his head and blinked, "Ah!" Sprout jumps back from Astro. "A-Astro! It's you! Uhm. Yeah yeah I'm fine, no need to worry!"

Astro examines his face for a bit, somehow not noticing the growing blush on the strawberry's face, because everyone is stupid and unaware. "Are you sure? I don't want you getting hurt. I saw you run into that wall, was something... distracting you?" Astro tilts his head.

"Y-yeah! Yeah no no no it's fine I'm fine! I was just thinking of.... Upcoming runs! Yeah that's it! Upcoming runs!"

Astro seemed unconvinced but went along with it anyways, "Ah... I do recall a run coming up that you're involved in, as well as Cosmo... I bet that's the one you're thinking of?"

Sprout's face almost twists into a scowl at the mention of Cosmo, "Oh yeah! Me and my best friend ever! We totally got this run down! You can count on us!" Sprout puts on his signature goofy smile, happiness practically radiating off of him. So much so that Astro's smile grows too, he giggles to himself. "You guys are always so dependable. I'm glad I'm also involved in the run you guys are attending."

Sprout's smile relaxes, he almost drowns in the sound of Astro's laughter. Sprout catches himself as Astro's eye lands on him. "Well I guess I should be going now!" Sprout hurriedly spats before turning and walking away at a fast pace. "See you later, Astro!" Astro waves back.

Sprout shuts himself into his room, the happiness from seeing Astro immediately vanishing, he somehow aged 30 years!?

"Urrggghhh I'm so pissed Cosmo went and left me like that.. how could he just- just abandon me! I fuckin' hate that rotten pastry.." Sprout rummages through his cabinets, pulling out a tape, some of the shows episodes on it. He inserts it into his DVD player and flops onto the couch.

[The episode starts, it opens with a 2D version of Sprout running around to find somebody, he finds Tisha, "Oh please Tisha! Can you help me find my good ol' friend Cosmo? He's gone missin'!"] Sprout cringes at the exaggerated cartoon voice. "God I can't believe I was supposed to sound like that, thank Qwel it's early seasons before the voice actor changed." [Tisha points over to the forest, "I saw him walking over there!" Sprout jumps up in a cartoony way "G-golly! I can't believe he went over in that dark forest!" His teeth chatter. "Are ya scared of the forest, Sprout?" Tisha inquires. "Me? I never get scared! I'll go in there and save Cosmo from anything big or bad!" And with that, Sprout trudges his way into the forest, intent on finding Cosmo. After a while, Sprout finds Cosmo eating cake with Yatta and her circus crew, Sprout joins them and the episode ends.] (The ending to the description was rushed sorry)

The monitor turns off, what once showed the happy face of Sprout in screen, now shows a tired, worn down, version of Sprout. He sighs and puts the remote away, "I can't be convinced that me and Cosmo were supposed to be made like that, so dependent on each other..." He stares at the merch posters on his wall and sighs.

There's a nightmare where my dream girl was.

"You're lucky I asked for you to be made before everyone else."

Cosmo can't help but roll his eyes at this seemingly foolish statement.

"Whatever. I was gonna be made anyways so what's the point? Just more time I had to spend with you." He said sharply.

Sprout scoffs. "I can't believe I used to think of you as my best friend! I know you too well, you're nothing more than an attention whore."

Cosmo can't help but laugh at the stupidity, these utterly mean and rude conversations are nothing new to him. "Oh yeah? Well it's not like you can leave me!"

"Really? Just watch me! I'll just go hang out with Astro."

Cosmo's eyes widen as his jaw goes agape. He starts laughing. "There's no way you are friends with Astro anymore. What are you guys dating? I know you got a massive crush on the guy but I didn't expect you to do anything about it!" He laughs even harder now, eventually stopping and staring at the embarrassed toon in front of him. "Anyways, leave! I'd rather you go sooner than later."

Sprout freezes for a second. He doesn't actually want to leave, he needs Cosmo so every other toon can see how well he matches his cartoon self. "Well if you hate it that much then I'll stay! It's better to torture you than to leave."

Cosmo groans exasperatedly, deep down he didn't want Sprout to leave either, he found himself so dependent and used to Sprout that it's hard for them to separate.

"Fine then! Since you just looveee me so much! I guess I'll keep your lonely self company." Cosmo fake gags.

Sprout rolls his eyes. "I'm only staying to annoy you, you deserve it for being such a bore."

"Oh yeah? Well you're not exactly Prince Charming either."
