Wise downs a few too many cups at a party while Banyue merely sits along for the ride and supervises.

Chapter 1: The Lights Are Bright Enough

Summary:

Banyue's never had an encounter with a drunk human before.. let alone one this close.

Chapter Text

Banyue finds the clink of glass rather monotonous. At least the activity on Sixth Street manages to drown it out.

Like fireflies in the night, they've chosen to celebrate tonight with lights and games, food, and.. alcohol.

Banyue doesn't prefer alcohol, he thinks the taste is underwhelming.

As for Wise?

Haaah…”

He's been buzzing around the street, laughing so hard he snorts, shoulders pinched together while his jacket threatens to bunch up halfway down his arms. Banyue's had some trouble keeping up, until Wise spots him halfway across the road and saunters over, brand new drink in hand.

Banyue.. has never seen this before. This kind of behavior. So witnessing it firsthand from Wise puts him a little on edge.

But also somewhat curious.

Heeey Banyue,” Wise's words are noticeably slurred, drawn out, and he's always giggling, eyes half lidded and sparkly. “Where've you been this whole time..?”

He clears his throat. Wise smells overwhelmingly sweet.

“I don't partake in festivities of this nature. I enjoy the atmosphere well enough.”

“.. Eh?” Wise tilts his head and blinks, and the hair that shifts over his eyes makes Banyue quietly laugh. “So you've just been.. sitting around?”

He thoughtfully peers down, “You make it sound like I'm not enjoying myself.. I assure you, I'm having a pleasant time.”

Interestingly, Wise pouts, before gulping down the rest of god knows what from a red solo cup and lazily crushing it in his hands. He licks his lips. Banyue remembers that.

“Aw, ‘s a bummer..” The Proxy wilts in favor of the construct's supposed loss, just to jerk right back to his bouncy and airy demeanor. “But you aaare having fun,” he pokes, abruptly coiling his arms around Banyue's waist and pressing his face against his stomach. “Right?”

“Wise—?”

“Because.. ‘cause if you weren't, that'd make me sad.”

Banyue glares down, arms half suspended in the air.

He seems.. rather…

That's where his haphazardly shelved curiosity comes into play.

Wise says nothing, only stares back up at the mildly surprised eyes returning the look.

Banyue thinks.. he thinks about what they're doing now. How Wise is so much smaller, yet still chooses to coil around him like his past wasn't lined with aggression and casualties.

Banyue thinks about it— how Wise would look, with nothing on his shoulders, maybe messier hair, and a hand glued to his hips to help—

“Banyue?”

Sheesh. Was he that easily distracted?

Banyue gently pushes the human off him, swiveling his head to avoid looking at Wise any longer in a way that would keep giving him.. ideas.

“.. Ahem, dear Wise.. might I.. humbly suggest you take a break?”

There he goes again, looking at Banyue like an innocent dog.

“A.. break? From what?”

“Do you feel sick? I can't help but think that you've had a bit to indulge..”

“Feel sick…” he brings a finger to his face. “I feel preeetty good, actually.. but!” Wise shoots up, outstretching his arms to grab Banyue by either side of his face and lean him down to whisper.

“I'd feel a looot better if we were somewhere else.. doing something else.. hehe, you know~?”

“Wise! There are—” Banyue whips his head around, settling to look at Wise, but not before peeling the warm hands from his face. “There are others around! What are you doing?”

Awww, come ooon, what's a bit of a crowd? I don't mind it.”

“You're…”

.. Times up.

Banyue briskly sweeps Wise off his feet, doing his best to settle his tail behind himself while holding him in a last minute bridal carry.

“That's enough. I'm taking you somewhere else so you can pull yourself together.”

“Ah wait! Nonono, Banyue, come ooon—”

“You are in no shape to keep attending this gathering.”

“I wasn't done! I still wanted to—”

“Hush.”

Wise defeatedly sighs.

“What'cha gonna do with me, big guy?”

“... That entirely depends on your behavior.”

"Noted."

There's a pause.

"Don't get any ideas."

Wise throws his hands up.

"Was barely even thinkin'."
