Chapter Text
These weekends never failed to pull the smile from her face. She leaned back the best she could on her stool as she watched the data streams in front of her while darting her gaze over to the live stream of the race. When she got a notification no race engineer wanted to see all she could do was shake her head. Some things just never changed.
Mira leaned forward and activated the radio.
“Hey Rumi? We just got our third strike for track limits.” She called over the radio and immediately heard a hum.
“Where?” Rumi replied and Mira just looked at the notification.
“Turn 12, you have been given the black and white flag.” Mira replied back, sounding a little bored, it always made for better television. Even if Rumi managed to actually acquire the five second penalty, it wasn't going to mean much with less than 7 laps to go and the tremendous lead that she had. “You're 23 seconds ahead of Roman. I don't think it's worth taking any risks here Ruums.”
“You think she's going to listen to you?” Bobby asked after she closed the line to Rumi and Mira simply rolled her eyes.
“It's Rumi, she's going to ask me something stupid in the next 10 seconds.”
It didn't even take 3.
“Hey so, what’s… fast lap?” Rumi's voice came over and Mira rolled her eyes with a fond smile. Bobby chuckled as she opened the line again.
“It's a 16.5 with Jinu on a fresh set of softs. Don't worry about it Rumi.” Mira responded, looking at Bobby with a dead expression, too predictable, at least they could trust Rumi not to bin the car into the wall.
“What's my fastest lap?” Rumi questioned back.
This is why she dyed her hair pink, so no one could see her premature grays that this woman was giving her.
“17.4.” Mira grumbled. “You have a black and white flag, you cannot afford to take any risks.” There was no point in telling Rumi this, but it looked good and it at least told their team principal that she was trying to control their tiger. The rest of the pit wall gave her a pitiful look but this is why the Huntrix Racing Formula 1 Team paid her hefty salary.
“How many laps do you think?” David asked as Mira peered at Rumi's timings as her next set of sectors slowly ticked over to purple. She was going for the fastest lap because she could.
That was Rumi for you, when she gets bored, she starts risking things she shouldn't.
They all saw it. When Rumi clocked 16.3. Honestly, Mira just wanted to pull her hair out. If they fail their post race check because of all this, she was going to throttle their star driver.
“The car is fine, don't worry about it.” Bobby reassured her as Mira flicked the radio back on.
“Okay, you're funny. Can you now bring it home within the white lines?”
“Yeah yeah.”
Gods, how she loved this woman.
