Work Text:
There it was again. That weird guy with his annoying glasses and his repugnant green necktie.
And his stare. His intense stare that never wavered, not even when someone passed between the two of them. At first Eijun was confused; he turned around a couple times to check whether that guy was glaring daggers at someone else behind his back but no, there was no one there. Eijun just shrugged and continued his breakfast.
Then it happened the next day, too. This time Eijun was scared.
When he met with the same intense glare in the third day in a row he turned to Haruichi.
“Umm, Harucchi, please tell me that I didn’t do anything stupid.”
“I wish I could tell you that—“
“HARUCCHI!”
“—but why are you asking?”
Eijun sighed and checked whether – yup, he was still staring. Surely someone else noticed that too, right?
“I mean, I just…” Eijun averted his gaze and instead focused on the remains of his food, “I haven’t angered someone accidentally, have I?”
He got a confused look from Haruichi.
“Well, just a couple teachers, I guess, but that’s nothing unusual.”
Before Eijun could’ve defended himself he got slapped on the back of his head.
“OW! WHAT THE— KURAMOCHI-SENPAI!”
“That’s because you were late yesterday, you idiot!” Kuramochi leaned closer to them and snatched a piece of cake from Eijun’s plate. “I thought Quidditch was your top priority.”
“IT IS!” Eijun shouted. He couldn’t believe it; he only woke up half an hour ago and his day was already ruined. “I was late because I got detention!”
“Because you’re stupid, you moron. You won’t stand a chance against the monster rookie if you keep getting in trouble.”
“He’s right, Eijun-kun.” Haruichi said. “You need to keep it down for a while.”
“KEEP WHAT DOWN!?”
“Your voice, for example.”
All three of them looked up at the new voice and Eijun’s jaw dropped. The guy with glasses and an intense stare was standing by their table – by their Gryffindor table – and he was still eyeing Eijun. He had his hands in his pockets which managed to anger Eijun even more; just who the hell did he think he was?!
“SAYS WHO?” Eijun returned his fierce glare with ease and he ignored Haruichi’s attempt to get his attention.
Unfortunately his cool façade lasted only until Kuramochi slapped him once again.
“You don’t even know who are we gonna play against next, you moron?!” he hissed. “I swear will seriously put you out of the team myself!”
“WHAT?! WHAT ARE YOU—Oh.” Finally it all made sense to Eijun; so he was playing for the Slytherin Quidditch team, huh… That’s why he intended to murder Eijun by his stare! Such a great player as Eijun could be a real threat, and he sure was one. Yeah. He was. Even if he was constantly late from practices…
“Kuramochi.” The annoying guy’s smirk didn’t match the icy cold of his tone at all and Eijun wondered how that could even be possible. “Fancy seeing you here.”
“Miyuki.”
Eijun tilted his head in confusion. If Kuramochi hated the guy’s guts then he really had to be an insufferable person, and he most likely deserved to be treated like one, especially after all those staring contests that Eijun had to suffer through.
Eijun slammed his hands on the table and jumped up, scaring Haruichi a bit.
“So it’s Miyuki, huh.” He pointed his finger accusingly at the guy’s chest. “Miyuki, I will catch the Snitch before your team could even try to score!”
Miyuki’s eyebrows shot up and his smirk widened, which Eijun would’ve liked to observe a little more if Kuramochi hadn’t hit him once again.
--
“WHAT DO YOU MEAN I WON’T PLAY?!”
“You were in detention the whole week!” Kuramochi rolled his eyes. Eijun really couldn’t believe it. Normally he would’ve been upset whenever he would be put aside that mercilessly but this time he had another reason for it.
“HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO PUSH THAT MIYUKI OFF HIS BROOM THEN?!”
“SHUT UP! It’s your fault for being that stupid! Making the Captain of the Slytherin team your enemy? How stupid can you be?!”
“It’s not like you’re friends with him either!”
“Of course not! But you really don’t want a guy like that to be your enemy, you moron!”
“Stop insulting me!”
“Stop being a moron!!”
Eijun shut the door behind him as he stormed off towards the Gryffindor Tower. First he got told that he won’t get to play and then this… He would’ve blamed the Potions professor or even Furuya for that but now all his anger was focused on one single guy.
One single guy who just happened to walk towards him.
Eijun quickened his pace and stopped once Miyuki noticed him.
“Just watch me! I will seriously beat you in our next match!” He exclaimed and got even angrier when Miyuki began grinning.
“Oh? Is that a challenge?”
“HELL YEAH IT IS!”
Miyuki took a step closer and Eijun felt himself shrinking under his stare. Maybe he really was an idiot for trying to get in the other boy’s way… But it was too late to withdraw now.
“I’m looking forward to it then… Sawamura.”
Eijun’s jaw dropped but before he could’ve asked him where even he knew his name someone began shouting in the other end of the corridor.
“HEY, KAZUYAAA! DON’T MAKE ME WAIT FOR YOU!”
Eijun watched in horror as Miyuki reached forward to ruffle his hair before he walked away.
“I’ll be right there, Mei!” he waved but Eijun could only see his back. Was Miyuki just playing with him or… or was there something behind it?
And why did Eijun hoped for the latter?!
--
“Seriously?! First I can’t play, and now this??”
“This is an honor, and you should appreciate it.” Kanemaru rolled his eyes. “I didn’t want it to be you either, don’t worry.”
“But… why now…”
It wasn’t fair, really. After their little confrontation or whatever it was with Miyuki he decided to mingle in the crowd during the match, hoping that Miyuki would forget him once he wouldn’t be able to see him… But it seemed that life wasn’t that easy.
“So? You’ll accept it, right?” Kanemaru asked. “Who knows, maybe you’ll finally get a good point with this by your teachers.”
Eijun sighed and lowered his head in defeat. Kanemaru was right; and besides, maybe he could make fun of Miyuki somehow with that…
“Fine. I’ll be that damn announcer during the match.”
--
It was weird. Eijun didn’t have to shout and his voice was still easily heard throughout the stands. The weather was just about perfect for a game and every cell in Eijun’s body urged him to grab a broom and stand in Furuya’s place. Still, at least he got another important role, even though it wasn’t at all what he wanted.
“And now here comes the Gryffindor team in all their glory! Captain Yuuki looks as fearless as ever, the best Chaser that you have seen in centuries, people! Feel honored just because you get the chance to witness his almighty—“
“Sawamura!”
“Umm, right, sorry. Ah, there’s Furuya! That bastard that just—“
“Sawamura, last warning!”
“I’m sorry!” Eijun turned to smile sheepishly at his professor. Turns out the announcer’s job wasn’t easy at all, huh…
“Anyway,” he continued and his eyes lighted up when he noticed a certain friend of his among the Gryffindor team, “I know for a fact that Kuramochi-senpai — yup, the Beater on the left if you haven’t known him yet — so you would make him veeeery happy if you would confess your undying love to him, believe me.”
He ignored both his teacher’s and Kuramochi’s furious glare and pulled the mic closer to him before anyone could’ve taken it away.
“Ah, and the Slytherin team!” he announced once the green cloaks appeared. He didn’t know much about them besides their last names and positions but he hoped that he would still be able to humiliate them somehow – well, he only intended to do so with only one person.
His plan only lasted until he spotted one more familiar face between them.
“THAT’S SANADA SHUNPEI! AAAH, sorry,” he leaned away from the mic a bit, “how is this thing so loud… But wow, it’s really him! The great Chaser who was in the Daily Prophet last month! What an amazing match we’ll have with these two incredibly talented Chasers!”
It seemed that Sanada Shunpei didn’t mind his praise at all; in fact he even bowed around the stadium, and Eijun could clearly see his satisfied grin. When Eijun looked to his right he noticed another familiar face. He didn’t want to get his attention but Miyuki was already looking at his direction. Whatever, he’ll just get over it then.
“And the Keeper, who’s the team captain too, Miyuki Kazuya. But man, to think that they have the great Sanada Shunpei…”
He ignored both the way his teacher shook his head next to him and the small blond Slytherin guy who shouted “I’M HERE TOO! WHY IS HE ONLY TALKING ABOUT SANADA?!”
The match finally began and even though Eijun sulked all day now he felt excited. Watching it from the sidelines was frustrating and interesting at the same time.
“Slytherin in possession, which is only forgivable since it’s Sanada… — NO, WHAT A GREAT MOVE, KURAMOCHI-SENPAI! — Sorry, too loud… — Captain Yuuki with the Quaffle, really, nothing can stop him — the Slytherin Beaters are clearly amateurs — and he’s by the hoop and he’s —WHAT?!”
Eijun’s jaw dropped once again as half of the stands cheered and the other half groaned. As for Eijun he felt his brain freeze. What just… What just happened…
“That was Miyuki!” He shook his head a bit, still finding it hard to believe. That save was more than just spectacular. He slapped himself and returned his attention to the match where the Gryffindor Chaser was in possession of the Quaffle.
“And, umm, Sanada, umm, passes Ryousuke, Kuramochi too — wow, he’s really fast — what even is Furuya doing there?! — NO, arrrgh, ten point to Slytherin…” he mumbled. Against such an amazing player he felt like they barely stood a chance, and probably only catching the Snitch could’ve saved them. If only Eijun would’ve been there…
The match was rather slow; the Beaters on both sides were having a hard time, the Seekers were circling around the stadium, and it was obvious that the two eminent Chasers dominated the game. Well, that, and…
“Gryffindor in possession — woah, that was a close call — captain Yuuki launches forward, he’s unstoppable and he’s scoring — WHAT?! HOW DID HE DEFEND THAT?!”
Miyuki’s head turned to his direction and Eijun could’ve sworn that he was smirking. That bastard…
“Okay, I’ll admit that was nice, but next time he’ll surely fail.”
Except that he didn’t.
“WHAT THE HELL? DID YOU SEE THAT, PROFESSOR? DID EVERYONE SEE THAT?!” Eijun shouted excitedly. Miyuki didn’t just stop Gryffindor’s attack; he crushed it mercilessly and in quite a flawless way. At this point Eijun wasn’t even sure whom he was cheering for. “Oh my god that was… that was bloody amazing!”
He faintly heard Kuramochi’s shouts that must’ve been directed to him so he quickly cleared his throat.
“Anyway, we’re back in the game, the Quaffle — OUCH, that must’ve hurt, poor Sanada — so the Beaters are now actually doing their job — I DIDN’T MEAN ANY INSULT KURAMOCHI-SENPAI, DON’T GIVE ME THAT LOOK — I’m sorry professor I swear I’ll behave — YES! TEN POINTS TO GRYFFINDOR! BWAHAHAA GET THAT SLYTHERIN!”
He noticed the Slytherin Seeker cutting the air with an increased speed but when he turned to look at Furuya—
“COME ON! THIS ISN’T EVEN FUNNY! I would’ve done a much better job — I mean Gryffindor in possession, the Slytherin Seeker would now catch the Snitch any moment now since he doesn’t have any competition — I MEAN captain Yuuki has the Quaffle — passes Sanada — and DAMN! He’s stopped once again! How many is that now… No disrespect!!!”
Eijun put up his hands in defense even though he sat really far from his team. He knew that he should’ve supported them but—
“Who is that Keeper… I mean of course I know who he is, but damn…”
Miyuki’s heard turned to his direction once again and Eijun almost – almost – waved at him. He felt like he was drunk because of the excitement of watching a game that impressive. Must be nice, having so many talented players… If only he could’ve been there…
Miyuki Kazuya did an exceptional job by keeping the Gryffindor team at bay, and no matter how infuriating that was Eijun had never felt happier.
“WOW! Another save from Miyuki Kazuya! Hopefully his glasses would stay in place because it would be a shame if something would ruin his looks… I MEAN, khm, Slytherin in possession—“
And so it continued.
“Man, how is he not famous already… HE IS?! I’m sorry professor, no, I’m not a complete amateur, I PLAY SEEKER FOR GOD’S SAKE!!”
“Furuya finally decided to move a little — hasn’t he heard about stamina?! — and okay, that was a nice turn there but don’t get full of yourself only because — I’m sorry professor — Kuramochi-senpai gets hit on his face, I hope everyone saw that — I MEAN I HOPE HE’S FINE!”
“Aah, man, what a shame! Miyuki Kazuya let the Quaffle past… But he’s up against the incredible Yuuki so it’s no wonder, but still…”
“Another chance and YES, HE DID IT! What is he, the patron saint of the hoop?! Sorry professor, but aren’t you impressed? I mean are you even watching?! NO, I’LL BEHAVE I PROMISE!”
“It’s the great Sanada Shunpei’s chance again — Kuramochi tries his best and OOOH, NICELY DONE SENPAI! That’s it, let your anger out and spare me later!!”
“The Seekers are now circling around each other — IT’S NOT A DANCING SPORT — I hope they know that too — sorry it won’t happen again — OOH MIYUKI KAZUYA! Why isn’t he on our team?! NO DISRESPECT ONO-SENPAI YOU’RE DOING A GREAT JOB TOO!”
“It’s 70-160 to Slytherin so far, all thanks to a certain Keeper — hopefully he’ll stop being awesome soon if Gryffindor still intends to win — COME ON FURUYA DO SOMETHING! IT’S MADE OF GOLD, HOW CAN YOU NOT SEE IT YET?!”
“No, professor, I have nothing to do with him, he’s just, well, again, are you even watching? OUCH, THAT HURT!”
“What?! What do you mean announcers can get penalty?! No way!”
“Khm, another great defensive move from Miyuki, but I’m not allowed to say anything more so let’s focus on the Seekers — well, let’s not — is that… ARE YOU POINTING YOUR MIDDLE FINGER AT ME, KURAMOCHI-SENPAI!?”
“No, he wasn’t — he was — Gryffindor in possession, captain Yuuki looks unstoppable — aaargh, it’s Sanada again, he’s good too, but not as good as Miy-- I MEAN, he’s impressive in his own way — and yeah, ten points to Slytherin — seriously, it’s not fair for them to have Miyu—NO I’LL REALLY STOP NOW! PLEASE DON’T TAKE THE MIC AWAY!”
“Umm, WOAAH, finally! Furuya flies high above with an incredible speed — okay he can actually be good — is that the Snitch? IT IS! GET THAT, FURUYA! The Slytherin Seeker is right behind him, aaah what a contest! WHAT?! Oh, Slytherin scores once again but that’s not important now — what?! Professor, look, they might end the match soon!”
“They almost reached it — Furuya’s reaching out — HEEY, how was that fair?! What a dirty player Slytherin has — sorry sorry — at least they make up for that with— OH THERE IT IS! Seriously, he looks amazing! I wish I knew that then I wouldn’t have acted like a jerk with him — I’M SORRY PROFESSOR — yes, Furuya has the speed again and WOAAAH HE CATCHES IT! GRYFFINDOR WINS!!!”
“WHAT A TRULY SPECTACULAR MATCH EVERYONE, hopefully I’ll get the chance to comment sometime again — what?! Seriously? Aww, man… Whatever.” Eijun snatched the mic and took a step away from his professor. “MIYUKI KAZUYA! LET’S HAVE A REAL MATCH NEXT TIME!”
He didn’t escape the week of detention that he was now kind of used to.
--
“Cheering for the other team?!” Kuramochi kicked his shin mercilessly. “For Slytherin?! What the hell Sawamura?!”
“I already apologized a thousand times, Kuramochi-senpai!”
“But I haven’t forgiven you yet!”
Eijun winced and brushed the spot that Kuramochi hit. This was no fun… After the match everyone from Gryffindor treated him like a traitor and only Haruichi dared to talk to him. Well, Kuramochi only talked through wrestling moves, so it didn’t count.
“I’m sorry, okay? I don’t know what had gotten to me…”
“Oh, I might have a guess.” A new but familiar voice reached Eijun from behind. He quickly turned around and upon finding Miyuki Kazuya smirking down at him he pointed his finger at him.
“MIYUKI KAZUYA!”
“Hmm, so you still like saying my name, huh…”
Eijun blushed as he realized that he hadn’t even seen him since… since the match. And now he even had Kuramochi to witness his humiliation… Great. Just great.
“I-I really have to go—“
“Just wait a second.” Miyuki turned back and waved a little towards a group of Slytherin students. “Hey, Mei! Come here for a sec!”
Eijun would’ve loved to run away but Kuramochi surely wouldn’t let him, especially since he still seemed to be angry at him. He noticed that Mei was actually the small Slytherin Seeker and Eijun’s nervousness increased.
“What now, Kazuya?” Mei asked in clear irritation, not even sparing a glance neither at Eijun nor at Kuramochi.
“Can I borrow your quill for a second? I have to give an autograph.”
“What makes you think that I have it with me?”
“Oh come on,” Miyuki grinned and held out his hand, “you’re always ready whenever someone asks for an autograph from you – not like it happens that often though.”
“Shut up. You really don’t deserve such a good friend like me… Here. Now leave me alone.”
“Thanks!”
Miyuki reached out for Eijun’s hand before he had any chance to react and Eijun watched silently as Miyuki scribbled something on his palm. Was he… was he actually giving his signature on Eijun?!
Kuramochi’s muffled laughter wasn’t helping his situation either. Eijun closed his eyes and prayed silently that he would wake up soon and this all would turn out to be nothing more than a dream. A nightmare, if he wanted to be honest.
After Miyuki pulled the quill back he brushed Eijun’s palm softly and gave him a wink.
“Don’t worry, it will only last until midnight,” he said as he nodded towards Eijun’s hand. “And it will only appear when you think about me. Mei’s special quill.”
“Umm—“
“See you later then. Kuramochi.” His former cheeky expression disappeared all at once. Kuramochi simply nodded back and folded his arms over his chest.
After Miyuki left them Kuramochi doubled over and burst out laughing. Eijun knew that his cheeks must’ve been as red as his own scarf from the sheer humiliation he just had to endure. He sheepishly looked down at his palm and braced himself as he quietly whispered Miyuki’s name; however, it wasn’t a signature that he found.
Meet me in the library after dinner
Eijun hid his flushed face behind his hands.
