Work Text:
Kim Soleum's fingers are trembling, he can feel the tremors rise through his arms, almost merging with the beating of his heart. His whole body has frozen whether it be from the cold or what he's planning to do.
There isn't much left for him anymore.
The halls and offices have long been left empty. In his line of work, it was expected for them to die unexpectedly. It was a miracle they had survived this long. He left out a deep breath and watched as a puff of air disappeared into the night sky. The blaring lights of the city drowned the starry sky above.
Here, above the city streets, maybe he'll be able to find peace.
He reflexively reaches out to pet the plushie that was once stored in his front pocket—only to remember that Braun had left long ago too.
There really wasn't anything for him here anymore. The thought should've been depressing.
And maybe it was, but the only thing he could feel right now was the trembling in his hands, and the cold detachment he felt about anything these days. He steadied himself onto the ledge. Sure, there were other ways to kill oneself. Go into the darkness and you're bound to be put into mortal danger. But for once, and just this once, he wants to decide how he'll travel to another dimension.
If there is a place you go once you're dead.
He's okay with that too. He thinks…
He takes a deep breath in, letting the chill settle into his lungs. Then with careful precision, he pushes himself fully onto the ledge. From here, he can see almost everything.
It's breathtaking.
He turns around to look down, and sees the river. He briefly wonders if he should've tied something heavy to his feet like ankle weights.
Would that help?
Instead he propelled himself forward and let himself fall. The air whooshing and deafening him from all around. Until, the contact of freezing water hits his back. When he opens his eyes again, all he sees is black, an endless abyss that drowns him forward. He stops holding his breath and immediately chokes on water. He resists the instinct to swim up and lets his body sink further.
His head starts feeling dizzy the more he sinks, and in the last moments he can't stop thinking of wanting to go home.
