“May I kiss you?”
Ana doesn’t know why Mariana is asking. They’ve kissed dozens of times already, and besides, there isn’t even anyone here to see.
Oh.
There isn’t anyone here to see. She’s being asked for a real kiss, a proper kiss that isn’t for show, a kiss that is simply wanted.
Oh.
A thousand thoughts should be going through her head, but her mind is weirdly still.
She probably looks like a gaping fish.
Mariana starts to backtrack.
“The last time I kissed you I did so without your permission and even though I thought for sure you wanted it too I chose the absolute wrong moment to both confess my love and to kiss you without consent so this time I wanted to do it right. This way you are free to say no without having to push me away, and it’s easier for me to take the rejection, although I don’t want you to reject me in fact I think I’ve wanted nothing more in a long time than to give you a proper kiss and I just-“
“Yes.”
Despite her head not being truly caught up to what’s happening, she feels it in the very core of her being. Of course.
“Yes.”
“Yes?”
Well, actually, no.
Ana will not wait to be kissed.
She leans in first.
