“So? What do you think?”
You asked your stoic boyfriend who stood at the center of your dressing room, staring at you with that straight expression of his. You spun in your costume, the jewels stitched onto the bodice glimmering with your movements.
A thin white turtleneck with long sleeves topped by a baby blue bodysuit that clung to your curves and bumps in the best ways, a flowy white skirt stitched onto the stiff fabric somewhere below your waist. You lift and stretch your right leg, testing the flexibility of the fabric. Thankfully, you had thick white pantyhose stockings secured under the stiff end of the bodysuit, easing a bit of Ushijima's worries. But that wasn't really what he was thinking about.
The moment you caught sight of the flickering stiffness on his broad shoulders, your proud smile and posture faltered, brows furrowing in concern as you approached the taller man.
“What's wrong? Something on your mind?”
You asked as your soft fingers found his rough and large palms, cooing him to loosen his unconsciously formed fists. And he seemed to melt at the contact, his shoulders sagging slightly.
“Tell me, Toshi. What's bothering you?”
You called once more as you gently pull him around with you in the tight space of your dressing room, stopping when you felt your lower back bump softly against the vanity table.
“I...”
He mumbled. And oh, the way he looked at you at that very moment, so subtly vulnerable and blatantly loving, made you want to keep him there and not let him attend his game about to take place in three hours.
“[Name]...”
Ushijima sighed so painfully quiet as your soft hands caressed his large cheek, a small yelp escaping your lips as he lifted you up and sat you onto the table, large calloused hands gently holding onto your waist as he shut his eyes, leaning into your touch.
“I’m sorry for my behavior. I know I don't usually act this way, but...”
He excused himself with that ever so stoned voice of his. But you knew him better than anyone else, and a solemn smile crept up into your lips.
“But?”
“But something tells me I should just stay here, with you, and completely miss the finals.”
You felt your heart burn at his words. Although it may not seem much for others, this was Ushijima Wakatoshi—a total volleyball freak who's known almost nothing but running in court, willingly letting his passion slip away from his fingers for you.
“Toshi...”
“I wanna watch your performance.”
“There will be recordings–”
“I wanna watch you.”
His straightforward stubbornness caught you off guard, the bridge of his nose nuzzling against your cheekbone as his arms now completely wrapped themselves around your waist. A small giggle left your lips, your hand traveling up to his hair and caressing each strand with your fingers.
“I thought you didn't like losing?”
“Not being able to watch you is a loss. I am confident that my teammates will be able to handle the opposing team just fine.”
He hadn't even noticed that he had dropped his training bag moments ago, the Shiratorizawa logo printed onto the crumpled fabric of his bag, as well as the left chest of his jacket.
The silence lingered longer as you both delved into each other's warm embrace, the cold of the air-condition becoming long forgotten.
“If you tell me to stay, I will do it.”
He pulled his head back slightly from the crook of your neck, your eyes locking onto each other's. His eyes roamed over your face for a moment, taking in the softness of your features further enhanced by your dazzling make-up. You were enchanting, and he could never get enough. The way he stared at you was pleading—begging, even. Begging you to let him stay, to make him stay.
“You have a competition to win, Toshi. And so do I. So, unless you get it going and catch the latest bus outside, I've got nothing to brag about all year.”
A groan left his throat, the sound vibrating against your thinly clothed shoulder. Well, not that you were against this side of him. In fact, you'd love to have more of it. But you both had victories to claim, and it kept you grounded to your rationality.
“...Are you sure? You really want me to go?”
“Yes, Toshi. We'll see each other again tonight, won't we?”
He had pulled away now, with only his heavy hands hovering on your waist. He nods, eyes shutting as you leave a kiss on his forehead, then the tip of his nose, before smiling at him endearingly. His hands leave your clothed skin, the cold returning to your senses as he took his training bag and hooked it over his right shoulder, giving you a small wave before leaving the room.
You leaned back into the mirror behind you, feet swinging slowly back n forth as you shut your eyes and cover your face with your hands, the tip of your ears burning red.
“I should've let him stay.” you mumbled.
