Chapter Text
A dark stormy night stared upon a small village in a remote part of china. A man named Lai Fu was sleeping in his bed. The blanket pulled up to his chest as his wife slept beside him. His daughter, Lai Meifeng, was sleeping in the room beside his in her small bed. He was sleeping peacefully until he heard a strange noise… he brushed it off and kept sleeping, thinking it was just some random noise from outside, most likely a cat and dog fighting. But he heard a cry from the room beside his, he quickly got up and rubbed his eyes to get rid of the exhausted laying on his eyelids.
He got up, his dark blue robe swishing near his arms and legs. He walked over to his daughter’s room and opened the already cracked door. He peered in and was met with a horrifying sight. His breath caught in his throat as he shook with fear. His eyes were wide like saucers. He put his hand over his mouth to avoid screaming and waking up his wife. The sight he saw was, a robed figure was above his daughter’s bed with blood clearly dripping in the dark from his daughter’s brutally stabbed body. He quickly rushed to his kitchen and grabbed a knife but the man was quicker. The robbed man already headed to his room, where he grabbed his wife as her screams filled his ears.
After brutal hours of murder, he was now down near his daughter’s and his wife’s dead bodies in front of him. He was frozen with fear as he kneeled. He couldn’t properly get the tears out of his eyes due to his shock at what even happened.
As he kneeled, he heard a soft noise of a scroll landing near him. He looked around, confused. His eyes were devoid of his usual shine that appeared in his eyes when around his family. He grabbed the scroll with shaky hands as he read the scroll, the character’s were nicely written. He read the scroll out loud “Dear Lai Fu. I’ve come to greet you with grief of your recent loses. But one soul of these loses are truly not gone. Though, your beloved wife is long gone, your daughter’s soul is still floating about. I guarantee that it’s already in the isolated area of china, as many souls are already there. If you were able to journey with the body of your daughter, she will be able to communicate with you on your journey. Except she’s basically a soul already, so you can’t physically touch her no matter how hard you try. I wish you luck on your journeys.”
The scroll wasn’t signed by anyone. Lai Fu sighed and picked up the body of his daughter, their was movements imitating breathing but he knew his daughter was dead though she’ll be able to communicate with him and act like her usual self.
And that’s how Lai Fu ended up on this journey. He had his daughter in an open bamboo backpack. Lai Meifeng was gazing at the world with excitement in her eyes as she smiled, she was just adorable. Lai Fu sighed and smiled softly. He continued his journey, his legs tired due to the long walking sessions but pushed through anyway. He was determined to get his daughter’s soul back.
