Just want to be close to you

Summary:

When there are too many beds and too much distance between him and Hongjoong, San knows exactly what they need to be able to fall asleep.

Notes:

Hi! I wanted to write a little something for the hongsan fest, and try out writing a different ship other than my usual, since hongsan is one of my favorite rare ships!

For the hongsan fest prompt game - too many beds

as always, I hope you enjoy the fluff <3

Work Text:

San was happy to be paired with Hongjoong this time for the room arrangements. He usually shared a double room with Wooyoung or Yunho, but this time their schedules didn’t align, with San, Hongjoong, Yeosang and Jongho having an extra schedule together, and accomodations didn’t go according to the manager’s plan, so here they were, in the best hostel they could afford on such short notice, with Hongjoong walking beside him to their assigned room with his luggage.

San stopped in surprise when they walked in.

“Did they give us.. a dormitory room or something?” San said, looking all over the room. There were two bunk beds on either side of the room, and one double bed on the opposite side. “Could this be a mistake, hyung?”

“Manager hyung said they only had a few available rooms left. So I guess this is one of them. Choose whichever you like, Sannie, we got more than enough options,” Hongjoong said with a laugh.

“We could even call Jongho and Yeosang over? There’s enough space for all of us.”

Hongjoong chuckled. “I think those lovebirds would prefer the privacy.”

It was late when they went to bed, with Hongjoong on one of the top bunks and San had chosen the one double bed. San pouted, it was a big room, and Hongjoong was too far away. He felt lonely, with half of his members away, and with no plushies to cuddle to help him fall asleep.

He saw Hongjoong kept tossing and turning, so he wasn’t falling asleep either.

“Can’t sleep?” San asked, he had to raise his voice a little above a whisper for Hongjoong to hear from all the way over there.

Hongjoong hummed. “You too?”

“Yeah. Why did you choose the top bunk, hyung? Is it uncomfortable?”

“No, it’s fine,” Hongjoong replied. “It’s just that.. Seonghwa always sleeps in the bottom bunk.”

San smiled to himself. It was sweet, Hongjoong seemed to be missing his roommate just as much as San was missing his own. He grabbed his blanket and pushed himself off the bed, walking over to Hongjoong’s bunk. Hongjoong watched him from above, blinking to see his approaching figure in the dark.

“What are you doing?”

San slid himself to the bed underneath Hongjoong’s, getting comfortable and pulled his blanket over his body. “Wanted to be closer.”

Hongjoong didn’t say anything, so San didn’t either, just hoped maybe his proximity, or a lower bunk occupied by a member would soothe Hongjoong’s mind and lull him to sleep. Being closer to his hyung helped, but San still was not able to fall asleep. He knew he needed cuddles, and Hongjoong gave the best cuddles, even if they were extremely rare. Hongjoong was soft, he was so caring and lovely and always cared so much for him, in all the big and small ways. He gave the biggest, warmest hugs when the moment was right, when others weren’t looking. San was sure he’d be able to sleep if he got to hold his Hongjoong hyung right now. But he was probably asleep by now and he didn’t want to wake him.

Just then, San heard shuffling sounds from above and the bunk bed rocked gently. Hongjoong huffed, kicked his blankets, sighed, and turned to his other side in his seemingly futile attempts to try and fall asleep.

San’s heart started beating faster. His hyung still wasn’t asleep, either.

“Hyung?”

“Yeah Sannie?”

“Can I come up?”

“What?”

San grabbed his blanket in a tight fist and pushed himself up again from the second bed that night, and started climbing up the ladder. He ignored Hongjoong’s surprised gaze and settled himself to Hongjoong’s side with a happy hum.

“Scoot,” San whispered, and Hongjoong let out a small laugh as he made space for San to snuggle to his side. San pulled Hongjoong’s blanket and his own over them, covering them warmly, and then slid his arms around Hongjoong’s waist, finally getting to hold his hyung. He sighed happily, and pulled Hongjoong even closer.

Hongjoong seemed to not know where to put his hands at first, just allowing San to wrap himself around him and settle comfortably, then with a fond sigh he rested his arms around San’s shoulders and let himself be held.

“Comfy?” Hongjoong asked with a soft, fond little voice.

“Mmm. Very. Is this okay, hyung?”

“Of course, Sannie. You think you can fall asleep now?”

“Yeah. You?”

“I don’t know. It’s gonna be too hot with you under all these blankets.”

San chuckled. “You can kick them off. I’ll keep you warm.”

Hongjoong smiled. In the darkness of the room, there was enough light to see San’s dimples appearing as he returned his smile.

“Can I kiss you, hyung?”

Hongjoong’s smile widened. “Like the old times?”

San nodded, dimples deepening on his cheeks as the memory of their late night cuddles and kisses made his heart warm. “Yeah. I missed you.”

“Missed you too, Sannie .”

San felt a warm little hand on his cheek, caressing down his skin, gentle fingertips touching his lower lip. San leaned forward slowly until he brushed the tip of his nose to Hongjoong’s, and when he felt Hongjoong leaning in, he closed the distance between them and pressed his lips to Hongjoong’s. He kissed Hongjoong for long moments, with all the devotion and admiration he felt in his heart, with all the appreciation he had for everything he did for them, with all the love he had for his hyung, with all the gratefulness that he didn’t let San sleep alone tonight.

He smiled into Hongjoong’s lips to feel the tension leaving Hongjoong’s body the more he kissed and held him. Hongjong melted into the kisses, sighing blissfully against San’s lips, his beautiful eyes closed, long eyelashes falling softly against his cheeks as he let himself be kissed, and San took all that he was allowed, cherishing every moment with Hongjoong.

He felt Hongjoong relaxing further in his arms, his head falling on his pillow, the weight of sleep slowly pulling him under. San felt so content to feel Hongjoong falling asleep in his arms that he felt the much welcome, irresistible pull of sleep and didn’t resist it.

“Sleep well, hyung.”

“Night, Sannie .”
