Work Text:
In Mythomirage, five inseparable friends—Alix, Nova, Tarynn, Rayne, and Milo—embark on a series of surreal, high-stakes adventures hunting down mythical creatures that seem to be slipping into the real world: a siren in a drained reservoir, a shadow-walking wendigo in the woods, a phoenix nesting in an abandoned steel mill.
Each episode follows a new hunt, unfolding like a dream turned nightmare—atmospheric, tense, and emotionally charged. The friends rely on each other as they decode ancient symbols, uncover forgotten lore, and risk their lives facing down beasts no one else can see. But something’s always slightly off: time slips, memories blur, and reality cracks at the edges.
Unbeknownst to the audience—or the characters themselves—everything they experience is a shared hallucination, triggered by a strange event they can’t quite remember. As the season progresses, the mythic quests begin to echo deeply personal truths: unresolved grief, buried trauma, and strained relationships.
Subtle romantic tension grows between Alix and Nova, never quite spoken aloud. Meanwhile, a tender, tragic connection forms between Tarynn and Rayne—intense, poetic, and ultimately doomed. Milo, the glue of the group, begins to question whether any of them are still seeing the same reality.
By the final episode, the mythology unravels, and the truth creeps in: the monsters they’ve hunted were never real—but something else was.
