Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

Y/N POV

BANG!

I jolted awake, my heart hammering against my ribs. For a split second, I thought someone had found me. My breath caught, ears ringing in the sudden silence.

It took me a few moments to register my surroundings. Then I saw it, a thick branch had smacked against the window, swaying wildly in the storm outside. I took a deep breath.
"Just the wind. Just a branch." I consoled myself, but my body remained tense, frozen in that moment of fear.

I was thankful the windows were sturdy. The blizzard had only worsened. Snow whipped against the glass and the darkness outside felt thick and oppressive. I pushed the blanket off and sat up slowly, my bare feet touching the icy floor. The cold shot through me like a slap, and I shivered hard.

It was snowing heavily, and a blizzard had hit the town a few hours ago. The temperature had dropped significantly in that time. I reached for my phone on the nightstand and turned on the flashlight. The screen glowed weakly, illuminating the nearly barren and unfamiliar room. Wrapping a heavy shawl around my shoulders, I walked over to the fireplace and crouched down to add more logs to the fire.

As the flames flared up again, crackling softly, they cast flickering shadows across the walls. The warmth soaked into my skin, but not deep enough to thaw the chill inside. I pulled the shawl tighter around me, trying to shake off the chill in my bones, not just from the weather but from everything else weighing on me.

I was alone in this place, and the loneliness in my heart felt heavy. The silence was the kind that echoed, and in that quiet, my memories returned. It had been nearly a year since I had last seen or spoken to my mother and sister.

I missed them so much it hurt.

“I miss you so much, Mom,” I whispered. “I'm so alone.”

Tears filled my eyes before I could stop them. I blinked hard, letting the heat of the fire blur with the sting in my chest.

I pulled my legs to my chest and hugged them tightly as I reflected on everything that had led me to this moment. “Jungkook, you ruined everything. Why did you enter my life? I wish I could change the past. I wish I had never met you. Why did you do this to me?” I buried my face in my knees.

And outside, the storm howled louder.
