Work Text:

Cody watches the Jedi walk down the ramp of their ship and arrange themselves in formation at the bottom. In front of him, Nield is scowling and sullen, eyeing them all suspiciously, but sending particularly venomous glares towards a tall human at the back of the group. The tall human in question has perfected his serene expression to the point where he looks as if he couldn't give less of a shit if he was there or not.

That must be Jinn then.

Cody starts forwards. He could wait for the two parties to greet each other, but really, why bother.

"Master Jinn?" Cody asks in the calm tone he uses when summoning a trooper into his office for a bollocking. "A word."

Jinn tilts his head slowly towards Cody, confused and disdainful, but follows.

"Cody," his General calls, warily

Cody turns.

"You didn't stun me." He points out.

Nield snickers, looking delighted. Ob'ika has his head tilted, and is looking particularly serene in a way that means he can't show that he's secretly enjoying this.

Cody's General sighs, but gives in.

"I'd rather not have to spring you from prison, my dear."

Cody grins, feral. "You think they could catch me?" He doesn't wait for an answer, just turns and strolls away, to not quite outside hearing range, Jinn at his heel.

They turn to face each other.

Cody raises an eyebrow and waits for an explanation.

Jinn blinks placidly at him, seeming content to wait him out.

Cody decides he doesn't have the patience for this. He glances at his General and touches the side of his head. His General nods, and reaches out to put a hand on Ob'ika's shoulder, who looks surprised, then understanding as Cody's General covers him with his shields.

Cody turns back to Jinn, stares him in the eye, and brutally rips down his own shields.

He shows him, in great detail, exactly what a war with child soldiers looks and feels like. Exactly what fate he had abandoned the children behind him to. And the children who should be behind him but no longer were. He spares nothing.

The Jedi behind them shift. Unsettled. But the one in front of him looks as uncaring as ever. He opens his mouth, and Cody knows that the next words out of it are going to be "it was the will of the force" or "sometimes bad things happen" or "it all turned out fine in the end" or some other absolute banthashit that the Cadets behind him absolutely do not need to hear.

He snaps his shields back up, and lunges.

Cody spars with his General all the time, he knows how to fight a Jedi.

He thinks very hard about throwing a fist into Jinn's shoulder, while kicking out at his knee. Jinn crumples forward, knees hitting the dirt with a thud, and his face is now at the perfect hight - Cody draws his fist back, and it connects with an extremely satisfying crunch.

He drops his shields again, and thinks about how he'd pulled it slightly. He can disable a droid with a punch, and humans are a lot squishier. Ob'ika would likely be sad if Cody actually killed Jinn. Cody's General would too. As it is though, that's a broken nose and fractured eye socket at the least.

Jinn's saber leaps into his hand, and Cody is not a diplomat, but even he knows that escalation is not what this situation needs. So he grabs the hilt, rips it out of Jinn's hand, and smashes it into his temple, hard enough to render him unconscious, but again, not hard enough to kill.

Then he snaps it into the clip on his belt, and strolls back over to his General.

Who's pinching the bridge of his nose.

"Thank you for that lovely start to these peace negotiations, Commander."

Cody shrugs. "Don't all peace negotiations start with violence?" He rather thought that was the point of them.

His General shoots him a sideways look telling him to shut the kriff up.

"Go and put his saber back."

"He can have it back when he leaves the planet."

Nield's grin looks like it might split his face, and Ob'ika is staring at him with the same awed expression the shinies get the first time they see him punch a clanker.

Cody's General sighs, and turns back to the other Jedi.

"I would be interested to know what the council thought they were likely to achieve by sending a representative who has already declared the fates of the children on this planet to be unimportant and inevitable." His General blinks, then turns to the Cadets. "Well, my dears, I'm sure you shan't have any problems from here, you have, after all, proven yourselves extremely capable. I can only apologise for having to leave in such an, ah, abrupt manner."

Cody squints, and yep, his General seems to be starting to fade. Looks like the force thinks their work here is done. Cody grabs his General's arm, briefly considers the lightsaber on his hip, and decides to accidentally forget he still has it. Force travel is very stressful, after all. It's an understandable oversight. He nods at Ob'ika, then they're being sucked back through the force.

Cody's already ripping his bucket off when he lands this time, and over his retching he can hear a shiny left on watch calling for a medic.

"Good to have you back, Sirs." The shiny says.

Notes:

Obi-wan: Cody, is that Master Jinn's lightsaber?
Cody: What? Oh. So it is. Would you look at that. I have no idea how this could have happened. How silly of me.
Obi-wan: Nothing we can do about it now, I suppose.
Obi-wan: ....
Obi-wan: Do you want me to teach you how to use it?
