Work Text:
Vivian is working in their office, it has been at least two days since they came out and spent some time with Aimee. Coffee mugs were scattered around their desk, along with jolly rancher wrappers, this is quite out of character for Vivian. Vivian is normally a very tidy and neat person, they aren't one to leave dirty old mugs and candy wrappers lying around their work environment. Meanwhile Aimee was in the living room, she was knitting a new scarf for Vivian, she started thinking about Vivian and how long it's been since they've taken a break from work. She decided it's been far too long since she's made them take a break.
Aimee went to Vivian’s office and knocked on the door. “Vivian~” she called out in a sing-song voice.
“Busy.”
“Oh please, you've been busy for like two days! It's time for a break.”
Vivian sighed from inside their office and spun around in their swivel chair, rubbing their eyes from underneath their glasses, and replied “Aimee I just need a few more hours-” Vivian was cut off by the door opening. They slapped their laptop shut and scrambled to close their notebooks, Vivian is oddly secretive about whatever they spend so long working on in here, Aimee has stopped questioning it. Aimee walked into Vivian’s office with a sweet smile, she's always so happy it's almost sickening. Vivian had everything hidden and Aimee spun Vivian's chair to face her.
“You've been working for far too long, Viv.” Aimee chided gently and she set her hands on Vivian’s shoulders. Vivian looked up at her, grumpy but they couldn't protest against it. They had been working for a while…
“I think I've been working a perfectly reasonable amount of time. In fact, I could handle a few more hours before taking a break, I read somewhere that-” Aimee cut them off by pressing a finger to their lips.
“Don't lie,” Aimee scolded. Vivian always rambles a little faster than usual when they're lying. Normally when they go on spiels they are calm and collected, making sure every word is perfectly pronounced and their sentences are clear. When Vivian lies they try to get all of it out as fast as possible in hopes no one will fact check them. Vivian sulked in their chair and grumbled under their breath, annoyed that they had been caught.
Aimee smiled and then pulled Vivian up to their feet by their arms. “Come on,” she said and dragged them out of their office, ignoring Vivian’s attempts at trying to negotiate with Aimee for more time to work. She sat them down on the couch and said “Stay here, I’ll be back.”
While Aimee ran off to the kitchen Vivian stayed on the couch, it was better to just not argue anymore. After all, she's just trying to keep Vivian healthy… They really appreciate Aimee, she's always been so sweet no matter how much Vivian’s pessimistic attitude and antisocial behaviour frustrates her. Vivian has found themselves being much happier with Aimee around.
Vivian and Aimee met on a forum when they were thirteen, the two were online friends until Aimee flew to America from France when she turned nineteen to live with Vivian, who easily got their own apartment with their parents’ money. Ever since Vivian began speaking to Aimee daily, they've been less indifferent to everything, more positive, they're still a pessimist, but just less so.
Vivian is still sitting on the couch when their train of thought is interrupted by Aimee coming back with a bowl of their favourite snack in her hands, frozen grapes. Vivian sat up a little straighter when they noticed what Aimee was holding. “Are those for me?”
“No, they're just to look at,” Aimee replied with obvious sarcasm. Vivian rolled their eyes and took the bowl of grapes. They pulled their knees to their chest and leaned on the armrest of the couch as they ate their grapes. Aimee plopped herself down beside Vivian and she leaned on them.
“What are you doing?” Vivian asked and looked down at her, her red curly hair was brushing against their cheek.
“Sitting with you,” Aimee replied with a matter-of-factly tone.
“I see… Any particular reason?”
“I just like spending time with you.”
“Oh, alright then.” Vivian replied and turned their focus back to their grapes. Aimee reached over and grabbed the TV remote and a blanket, she draped the blanket over herself and Vivian.
“Can we watch The Great British Bake-”
“Absolutely not.”
“Why?”
“You had it on repeat for three months straight. I'm positive I could recite a whole episode for you.” Vivian said firmly and Aimee groaned, “then what do you want to watch?”
“Bachelorette?” Vivian offered, they know Aimee loves reality TV shows. Vivian doesn't much care for them, but they occasionally get really into the show like Aimee.
“Yes.” Aimee replied without missing a beat. She turned on the show and Vivian laid their head on top of hers while the opening theme played.
