Jealousy in the Air

Summary:

Sebastian and Alex have a mental fight over the male farmer

Notes:

Sorry this is very short. I don't write fics, I just wanted a fic with this dynamic

Work Text:

The Farmer boy and his friends were finally wrapping up their last D&D session, the board was put away, the undrunk, chilled sodas were returned to the fridge. All was right in the world as Sam left Sebastian’s bedroom with a quiet “goodbye!” as the door muffled his footsteps. Abby would've been following Sam if not for her absence. Her father insisted on her cooking dinner tonight at the very least moment, leaving only three party members left for this campaign.

Leaving them in silence, but not the type of silence that only complete strangers that are out of topics could hold, this was a quietness of pure vulnerability. Sebastian enjoyed the friendship they have, they don't need mindless chit chat to fill the void.
Sebastian sat on his couch, hearing it protest with a mild squeak. His eyes wandered until he found his way to him. “You should tell him!” Sebastian's friend, Sam's voice ringed in the back of his mind. No, no, he didn't feel like rushing, there was always tomorrow or the day after. They stared at each other, seemingly by accident for about five minutes before Sebastian threw in the towel.

“I’m gonna go smoke out back, you can come if you want.” He says with a sort of nonchalant behavior he currently didn't hold. The farmer shrugged with a small smirk.

Leading them through the door, the farmer didn't realize how late it was. The area Robin usually stood in was vacant and the lights were off, leaving a lively home empty yet comforting. Sebastian wasn't surprised though, he stopped hearing footsteps upstairs hours ago. He could have informed his new friend but relished in his company too much to end it with a quick ”everyone is asleep, you should go.” Like he normally did. Sebastian made his way out first, leaving the farmer to softly close the front door as if Robin or Demetrius would magically show up if it was any louder. This mildly amused Sebby as he chuckled a bit.
“Let's head to the beach, if that's fine with you.”. He loved the smell of the salt water as he took a drag from his cigarette, the blue hue around him was also welcomed as well; adding atmosphere to any already calming event.
He usually went to the beach alone but he never minded the companionship the farmer oddly added, with him he could drift off in though without worrying about being judged.

Twenty or so minutes later they were at the beach, Sebastian already smoking by the time they arrived.

Once the beach was fully in view, Sebby groaned, not because of the random shells everywhere, nor because of the sand but because of the polar opposite of him standing on the beach, throwing around a gridball.

Alex.

Stupid, wannabe sports star, Alex.

Sebastian was already turning back towards home, hoping he didn't spot them but the farmer had different plans as they walked right up to him and waved, breaking the “future gridball champions” concentration. He -to Sebastian's surprise- didn't mind this, waving right back with a movie star level smirk, making Sebastian wanna vomit.
“Haven't seen you in a while, how have you been?” They answered his question with a swift thumbs up.

They pointed at him in return, “Me? I'm great, as always. Been working ou-” finally, he noticed the annoyed goth man with a cigarette, watching their conversation. Sebastian was still standing firmly away from the bunch in hopes it would encourage the farmer boy to get the memo and leave, waving at Alex with an antagonizing smile, at least Alex saw the smile as such. The jock's face dropped from amusement to irritation faster than he could throw a ball, and believe him, he could throw one fast.

“Hi.” Alex said.

“Anywho, we should totally go to a gridball game next week, they're doing a small show in Zuzu city soon.” He added”I know gridball isn't your thing and all but as my friend, you are going. No excuses.”, the farmer threw their head back and laughed.
In Sebastian's unprofessional option, it wasn't that funny. This is the first time Sebastian ever heard of them ever being friends but now they're all chummy. Alex put his hand on his shoulder as he discussed sports or whatever, Sebastian flinched a little at the sudden contact that went unbothered by his friend. “We should go home, it's getting late.” Sebastian said assertively as he finally walked closer. “It's all fine, you go back, I'll walk them home.” Alex added with a loving pat on the farmer's shoulder.

Oh.

Oh.

It finally connected in Sebastian’s mind, ‘This guy likes the farmer.’. The thought also brought on other -more concerning- thoughts ‘Does he like Alex back?’ he slightly shook his head. ‘No way Alex of all people are his type, they're barely ever friends.’ At the very least that's what Sebastian wanted to be true, that Alex was just some guy that the farmer was kind to as he passed him by on the way to upgrade tools at Clint's, practically a stranger.
Alex's mind mirrored similar thoughts as Sebastian spoke aloud “He can walk back on his own”, he reassured him.

Before they could decide for the farmer he walked off the beach all by himself, waving a cheerful ‘Goodbye’.
