Work Text:

Started off as a fling

Turned into a flame

Never thought it could be

Something I would give all my time to

-

When did this start?

She really didn’t know when it started.

This thing.

There had been a new lawyer that everyone had taken a liking to as soon as she got here. Practically took the firm by storm with her impressive ability to win even the most tedious cases. She was growing popular in the scene, taking on quite interesting cases and settling them with ease.

They said that she never broke a sweat in the court.

Working at the same firm and in the same field mean she’d have to fight for certain cases since the higher ups were becoming impressed with her ability to settle disputes. Her clients had nothing but good things to say about Kim Minjeong either.

At first, the name tasted bitter on her tongue, frustrating her to no end. Everywhere she went, all she heard were her coworkers talking about how Attorney Kim did this, Attorney Kim did that, ‘Did you hear about Ms. Kim?’ If it were anybody else, Jimin was pretty confident that she wouldn’t have cared. They had lucky rookies and prideful lawyers all the time. What was so different about Ms. Kim that everyone was so in awe about?

Jimin couldn’t figure it out.

From her office, she sat on her couch, scrolling through an article on her iPad. Her head spiraled with questions. It was unusual on her part, although, there had been something that she had been itching to figure out.

She couldn’t ask her secretary about it because again, it was on unusual on her part to even be curious about the situation.

Who or what is she curious about?

The raven stood to her feet, sighing as she closed her iPad and set it on the coffee table next to her. She grabbed her purse and exited the large office. Before she knew it, her secretary was beside her, her orange hair down and swaying as they walked.

“You’ve been quiet. I can only imagine what’s going on in that diabolical brain of yours.” Yizhuo’s heels clicked just as loudly as the raven.

Her employees bowed their heads slightly to her in greeting while they passed, Jimin giving them curt nods in response. “Something’s been bothering me. You don’t happen to know Kim? We haven’t formally met yet. I see her around sometimes and I get curious.” They stopped by the elevator, Yizhuo pressing the down button for them.

The elevator opened with a ding, empty for the two women to entered. They stepped into the elevator, music playing softly in the back. “Attorney Kim? Minjeong is wonderful. She’s the reason why everyone’s life has been made ten times easier.” Yizhuo explained, her eyebrow tilting up. “Why?”

When the elevator opened, Jimin exited it almost too quickly, barely giving her secretary time to catch up. “No reason. I just want to know why everyone likes her so much.” The raven shrugged absentmindedly with the press of her lips.

Yizhuo froze in her step, prompting the raven to look back at her. “Don’t tell me you want to fire her? She just got here.” She asked in disbelief, earning a chuckle and the shake of Jimin’s head. The orange haired secretary sighed in relief, scurrying to catch up again.

“I don’t know, she seems like an odd person to get to know. She’s different, adjacent from all the serious lawyers. Weird.” She recalled multiple occurrences where she witnessed the redhead in the depths of her workflow.

Jimin continued walking until she was met with two large brown doors. In the middle of one of them, it labeled Kim Minjeong. She ran her finger over the gold plate, humming in thought. Yizhuo suddenly knocked for her, startling the lawyer before dashing off on her heels.

Panicking, Jimin didn’t know if running off as well was a good idea knowing she’d be caught midway. She winced when she heard footsteps on the other side of the door and in a split second, the door opened, revealing a red haired woman.

Embarrassingly enough, the raven couldn’t even utter a single word, staring at the redhead in horror like a child caught in the act of stealing some sweets.

“Ms. Yu? I wasn’t expecting visitors.” Ms. Kim opened the door fully, fixing her glasses to which Jimin stumbled over her words for. Her heart was not beating normally, at all.

Clearing her throat and gathering herself, the raven scanned around their surroundings. “Do you mind if I speak with you?” Jimin’s eyes then slipped behind the woman, catching a peek of the neat office.

Minjeong stepped backwards, letting the raven enter the office and shutting the doors closed. She pointed toward the couch on the right. “Please, sit. It’s such a surprise to see you here.” Her voice draped with humor, humor the raven couldn’t find in the situation.

The couch was comfortable at least, allowing the CEO to cross her legs and tilt her chin high. “Why is that? I just want to know what makes you so special. Why do my family members hold you in such high regards?” Sharp feline eyes roamed all over the brunette’s face and to her surprise, she was met with a warm smile that twisted her insides in all the wrong ways.

Minjeong leaned back into her chair, remaining too calm for the raven’s liking. She was so used to everyone being intimidated by her. It was different knowing that the redhead showed no signs of being intimidated.

Jimin had actually watched her at a trial. While she was impressed, Minjeong was reckless at certain times. It was interesting considering that she graduated valedictorian from highschool, was a high performer in law school and was one of the most regarded lawyers for her young age. She won her case so the raven couldn’t complain even if she got her hands dirty to do so.

The red haired lawyer kept their eyes locked, no signs of breaking contact. “Well, a lot of people like to say I’m good at my job. Being good at your job makes everyone else’s easier. I hope that answers your question.”

Jimin’s brow furrowed in thought. “Is that all?” The question was left hanging freely in the air. There had to be more to it. The response wasn’t satisfying enough.

Minjeong chuckled softly, the sound like a sweet melody in the air. “Maybe they also appreciate my ability to charm the pants off of people. If you would like to test that, I’m all ears.” The lawyer teased lightly.

Jimin’s lips twitched ever so slightly, a rare hint of amusement in her eyes. This interaction was unlike any other she’d experienced. It was the first time someone at work had caught her by surprise.

Straightforward and confident. Jimin admired it. No wonder they hired her.

Chewing on her bottom lip, the raven thought for a moment. “You know what, I want you to start walking with me more often. I want to get know my coworkers a bit more and what makes them right for the positions they uphold. Is that okay with you, Kim?” She soon smiled, words of offer to be taken.

Minjeong rose to her feet, packing the papers that were scattered over her desk in a neat pile. Her glasses slipped a little down the bridge of her nose, with red hair begging to patted down.

“I have a feeling that I’m the only person that you had in mind for doing this. But no, thank you. It’s a shame we are only formally meeting now. You barely ever acknowledge me.” The lawyer lifted her head, Jimin meeting her glinting hazel eyes.

It prompted the ceo to stand from the couch, adjusting her clip on her bag. “Maybe, maybe not. Also, I’m sure I wouldn’t have missed a face like you. I’m always in a rush, so.” She breathed in, tearing her gaze from the redhead, fluctuating thoughts bothering her to an uncomfortable level. She had to act like the rejection hadn’t bothered her.

Minjeong only chuckled at her words, the air becoming less tense than before, as she walked over to door and held it open for Jimin to exit. They both began walking side by side. “You flatter me, Ms. Yu. Visit soon.” She stuffed her hands into her pockets, the heels of her boots clacking nearly as overtaking Jimin’s.

Jimin still couldn’t figure out what was so special about her in the end.

—————-

In the family dining room, Jimin peacefully ate her food, quiet while her family members chattered among eachother. Her younger brother was being the loudest, complaining about work and money or something like that and their mother cooed at him like he was some child.

Jimin simply rolled her eyes as she picked at her food. Just a bit longer and she could go to her room. She couldn’t believe she was a grown woman and had to stay in a large house with her in laws, relatives and family members. She was planning to get a place of her own soon.

Mrs. Yu paused in eating, directing her attention at her “Honey, Yizhuo told me you’ve finally agreed to speak to people other than her. Kim Minjeong is a sweet lady. I have no doubts you guys won’t get along.” Her mother piqued her attention and Jimin was unable to complain as she finally understood why everyone liked the director.

She only hummed quietly, kicking her brother’s shin when he tried to steal a piece of her food. “Keep your hands to yourself, Jihan.” Jimin growled, watching as the man clutched his leg in pain. “She’s good at her job, I’m not sure why I’m only noticing her now.”

Her brother’s wife immediately leaned toward him to check his leg, rubbing his back up and down. It was so ridiculous.

Mrs. Yu shot up brightly. “She’s been with us for a while now. Her parents are so nice, as well as her older sister. Such great people truly.”

Meanwhile, Jimin remained mum, laughing internally like the diabolical person everyone assumed she was. Except Minjeong. Minjeong didn’t think she was anywhere near that. She wasn’t even a little afraid of her.

Why was she thinking about Ms. Kim?

The raven shook her head, ignoring all the sharp glares from the rest of her family members. It was just another day anyways.

She was more worried about what the red haired lawyer was hiding under that stupidly charming face of her’s.

—————

One day, Jimin needed a favor. She had an upcoming case about a woman and contract dispute. However, she was juggling two cases and didn’t have time to brief. So she decided to approach Minjeong about it since Yizhuo praised her for her ability.

She knocked on the redhead’s door before letting herself in before the woman can even respond. She strutted her way toward Minjeong’s desk, stopped in front of her and dropped a pile of papers onto the redhead’s desk with a low thud.

Looking up, Minjeong furrowed her eyebrow. “To what do I owe the pleasure, Ms. Yu?” She glanced at the stack of papers, the thickness a little concerning to anyone else who saw it.

Jimin crossed her arms impatiently, motioning to the papers. “I have a case for a contract dispute that needs briefing. I would do it myself but I have another case that needs my attention as well.” The raven explained and watched as the other lawyer’s face morphed into an amused expression.

The younger woman leaned backwards on her seat, raking her fingers through her hair. Her finger eventually pressed onto the middle of her black frames, which made her too laid back for Jimin’s liking. Her blouse wasn’t even buttoned up all the way, a silver snowflake necklace settling right on her chest. Her sleeves had been pulled up her arms as well, showcasing her toned arms. Overall—too laidback. She couldn’t believe that she was one of the most respected lawyers in the firm.

(Even It was all kind of sexy. Too much for Jimin. Too attractive for her to focus.)

And the way Minjeong looked back at her made her lose her train of thoughts.

“And why would I do that for you? If I remember correctly, you don’t like me. So why would I, Kim Minjeong, do this little favor for you?” Minjeong asked with curiosity, tilting her head ever so slightly. There was a small smirk on her lips, staring back at the older lawyer.

Breathing in and out, Jimin chewed on a bottom lip in attempt to keep herself composed. “Everyone has nothing but good words about to say about you, so I want to see it for myself.” The raven shrugged, already moving to retrieve the papers back.

She wasn’t going to force that woman to do it if she didn’t want to. There were other options, desperate coworkers who were more than willing to help her.

However, Minjeong placed a hand over her’s, stopping her from taking the papers. “I’ll do it-” Jimin sighed in relief. “-Only if you go on a date with me.”

What?

Jimin gawked at her, blinking rapidly as if it’d do anything to reverse what she had just heard. “A date? That’s-” Not that she would’ve minded, although, she didn’t like how the younger managed to catch her off guard.

She held pride in being reserved and focused. She had rumors flying around the firm, yet her sternness and ability to never allowed her to crack a smile. There was a reputation to uphold.

Accepting this request meant treading in dangers waters. However, the thrill that would arise within all of this made her consider things.

Sighing, Jimin opened her mouth to speak. Hopefully, she didn’t regret this at the end.

“Fine.”

—————

To be honest, she wasn’t sure why she was dressed as nicely as she was. For all she knew, she’d be looking a little overdressed for a little arcade date.

The red haired lawyer had refused to tell her where they were going, something about a confidentiality, which Jimin thought was odd. She shrugged it off, atleast hoping the younger woman had good taste. The raven was an expensive woman after all.

Just as she was about to leave the house to head toward Minjeong’s car, who had texted her that she arrived, her sister was leaned on the kitchen countertop, with her arm crossed. Jimin closed her eyes in embarrassment, trying to decide what excuse to make up. She took one step after another and wished to leave the house in one piece.

“Where are you going?” There it was.

The raven faced Jeongyeon, putting on the biggest smile she could muster. “Just out. I may or may not be back tomorrow morning. Who cares, it’s Friday!” She tried to open the door but her older sister shut it.

Jeongyeon was not phased. “If you’re getting laid, which, finally, just say so.”

Scoffing dramatically, the raven placed a hand to her chest. “First of all, I’m 27. Second of all, I’m just going out for dinner. Third, she’s helping me with a case. That’s all. Now, please let me leave, she’s outside waiting.” Jimin moved to open the door, her older sister finally letting her go.

“Yeah, yeah. Use protection!”

“Jeongyeon!” Jimin groaned, skittering off to Minjeong’s BMW. The other lawyer walked out to open the door for her, all while holding in a laugh. Once the door shut, the raven settled into her seat, mopey and all.

Minjeong walked over the driver’s seat and entered the car, putting on her seatbelt. “You ready?” The redhead asked mischievously, earning an eye roll from the older lawyer.

As the car began moving, Jimin wondered what she gotten herself into.

It was just one date after all.

The drive wasn’t as lengthy, although, it nearly got to the point where Jimin was starting to get curious. Knowing the younger, Minjeong wasn’t going to tell them where they were going.

After a few more minutes, Minjeong pulled up to a fancy resturant. Jimin made a face of surprise, seemingly impressed by what she was seeing.

Thank goodness Jimin had dressed accordingly. The raven followed the redhead’s figure as she walked around to the other side of the car to help her out. Jimin gave her a brief smile before feeling a hand on the small of her back.

The red haired lawyer walked toward the front, telling the host her name. The host brightened up, giving Minjeong a hug before directing them to their table. They are led outside the resturant. There, is a beautifully decorated table, with a careful breeze blowing by.

Before the dark haired lawyer could sit down, the host handed her a flower, telling them to enjoy their night before walking away.

The two lawyers sat down and relaxed into their seats. Jimin’s gaze lingered on the redhead, watching as she slipped off her blazer.

“It seems like you’ve done this a dozen time before.” The older began, crossing her legs and arms as she leaned back against her chair. If Minjeong thought she was going to make it easy for her, she was wrong.

Minjeong’s lips lifted barely, unfazed like she had been preparing for the assumption. “I have had my fair shares of dates. You might think I’m reckless when it comes to relationships, dating… and everything. But I’ve only dated three people in my life.” She mumbled a thank you to the waiter who set appetizers and the menu in front of them.

Her answer surprised the older lawyer, the answer in her head being the total opposite of what she was expecting. Her heart skipped a beat at the thought of being one of the few people Minjeong decided to pursue.

Her question specifically, why did Minjeong ask her out in the first place. Was it for bragging rights? Or maybe it was to get back at her. Whatever it was, Jimin wasn’t confident she’d like the outcome. But it was almost like she didn’t have a choice when the younger had asked her out.

If anything, anyone would’ve killed to be in her position right now.

Her questions were always answered, and the raven was going to get it. The raw, strained down truth.

“What made you take interest in me?” Jimin settled for a plain simple approach, knowing there were mutiple meanings behind it.

Minjeong’s lips curled into her cheeky smile, resting her elbows on the table, too plausible. “Why did I take interest in you? Well, everyone thinks of you as untouchable, unattainable. They only want to establish something because what they get in return, an ego boost, bragging rights.” The redhead studied the older lawyer, slowly picking out Jimin without noticing.

Breathing in deeply, Jimin waited for her to continue. “I guess I was just curious about how to crack you open. Maybe I just want to get to know you, not Ms. Yu, or Attorney Yu. Instead, I want to know Yu Jimin. But I can’t do that, unless you allow me to. I’ll respect your decision.” Minjeong told her with understanding.

Lifting the menu, the younger lawyer let her eyes scan the choices of meals.

“However, for now, enjoy the night and let me know if you change your mind.”

—————

Jimin shoved the coat off Minjeong’s shoulders, letting the younger slip her tongue into her mouth and releasing a low moan in between. It made her feel all hot, her heart racing with an intensity she didn’t know was possible.

Her hands roamed over the lawyer’s body, strong abs tensing under her fingers. The raven smiled against her lips at the quiet moan she received in response, caressing Minjeong toned stomach rather firmly.

So this was what she hiding under her coats.

This was the better idea?” The redhead struggled to unbutton her blouse, walking backwards as the ceo moved forwards.

Deciding to move along the process faster, the raven reached for the two sides of Minjeong’s blouse, and ripped it apart, buttons flying all over the place. When the younger lawyer’s top fell over her shoulders, Jimin pulled away to let her eyes roam freely.

“That was my favorite blouse!” Minjeong was heaving, shoulders rising up and down as she let the older woman ogle at her. Jimin was in awe as she removed the other lawyer’s glasses and set them aside.

“Mmm, well, you look much better without it.” Jimin purred as pushed the redhead onto the couch, crawling over her lap to straddle her.

She then felt lips peppering burning kisses up and down her neck, coursing a sigh out of her. She couldn’t admit that it was straining something out of her to be louder.

Minjeong tugged at the hem of her dress shirt, pulling it up and over her head. The raven lifted her own arms, throwing the top somewhere on the floor before leaning down to connect their lips again in a bruising kiss. Now that she had gotten to know what kissing the lawyer’s felt like, she needed the redhead’s lips on her a bit longer. There was no hesitation to dig her fingers into the tresses of the younger’s red hair.

The red haired lawyer palms dragged up her back, her hands covering a good portion of her skin. She fiddled with the hook of the raven’s bra, pausing their kiss as if waiting for a sign to stop.

Jimin rested her forehead against Minjeong’s, her heart thumping so harshly at the gaze the redhead was giving her. Minjeong slid her hand up the raven’s body, caressing her cheek and brushing their noses together. It made her shiver all over and the raven didn’t want her to stop.

The next thing Jimin knew, she was being lifted, falling with a soft thud onto sheets that smelled just like Minjeong’s luminous perfume.

—————

So, what did she really get out of that date?

An interesting detailed briefing that helped her win her case, beautiful flowers and the greatest sex of her life. She was in trouble.

Kim Minjeong was all they said she was—perhaps even more. She witnessed it firsthand.

Jimin caught her breath, trying to recover from the multiple highs Minjeong had given her back to back. She was sure she saw white too much for her to count. Her body was more than exhausted.

Beside her, Minjeong had an arm under her head, staring up at the ceiling. “You okay over there?” The redhead soon turned her attention toward the older woman, her hair tousled from Jimin’s tugging.

The raven slowly nodded, her eyes closed. She knew she was going to have a rather hard time walking the next day.

Minjeong’s leg was brushing beside her, sharing her warmth under the blanket. It made her feel a bit weird. But it wasn’t uncomfortable. “Just peachy. May I ask, do you do this on every first date?” Jimin wondered, if she was special or just a one of the many.

A light giggle filled her ears, sending the older lawyer’s heart in a turmoil. “No. You’re the first. I mean, you kissed me first. Nobody’s ever that desperate.” Minjeong responded easily like it was nothing, shifting on the bed.

Jimin made a disproving noise lowly, her ears growing red at the memory. It was a brief moment of weakness when the redhead walked her to her door and the raven roughly kissed her before she turned around to leave. Not one of her brightest moments but it was okay, she got 4 mind blowing orgasms out of it.

“Curse you and your sexy face.” Jimin complained and it earned another laugh from the younger.

Then, it became a thing. When she meant a thing, she meant sneaking kisses in the firm, away from prodding eyes. They kept their desires to themselves, felt rather the opposite about eachother than what everyone had thought about eachother. Did Jimin tolerate the younger lawyer? No, but she’d tolerate her lips and sweet smile. Did Minjeong tolerate her seriousness? Hmm… No, she saw it as a more sexy thing, used it to her advantage to get under the older’s skin.

Something the redhead liked to remind the older about was how she had enough power to tear the dark haired lawyer apart. The strictness and expectation the raven had was thrown out the window whenever Minjeong pulled her flushed against her front.

More like Jimin was unable to get enough of Minjeong and her lips. She might have startled the younger lawyer whenever she shoved her into the bathroom stall and pressed herself onto the redhead.

It was mostly times where Jimin was left frustrated by a difficult case and she was feeling too stingy to ask for help. So she decided to blow off some steam.

Really, Minjeong never complained, kissing her back just as roughly and keeping her hand firm on Jimin’s waist and in her hair as she pulled her closer. The dark haired lawyer couldn’t believed how much she liked it. The redhead was smooth, calm, leaving the older in a churning mess.

There would be these stupid comments the younger lawyer whispered in between that made Jimin want to shut her up. They were annoying but it was surprisingly hot how Minjeong seemed to get under her skin and earn the reaction she wanted.

Jimin hummed into Minjeong’s mouth, gripping onto her shoulders for some type of stability. “Somebody’s feisty.” The redhead mumbled lowly, smiling against the raven’s mouth.

In response, the older lawyer’s bit down on Minjeong’s bottom lip, a silent message to shut up and kiss her. The redhead only hissed and complied when Jimin slipped a hand under her blouse to scrape at her abs.

They could only spend so long in the bathroom before Jimin would separate from the red haired lawyer and exit the stall to walk up to the mirror. She briefly fixed her appearance, her eyes trailing after Minjeong who had looked worst than her. There were lipstick marks all over her face and neck, her lips were red and swollen too. Her hair was what caught her attention, as the younger’s hair that was usually neat and patted down, was a mess, strands tangling awkwardly.

The only thing the women did was grin widely. If it weren’t for the older, Minjeong would’ve walked out just like that, flaunting everything for everyone to see. While Jimin would’ve like that, knowing that it’d get the many ladies who flirt with the redhead on a daily basis to back away, they were lawyers with a reputation to uphold.

Whenever they had gone their separate ways, nobody ever batted an eye, knowing that the two weren’t fond of eachother.

Jimin’s days went on like that, meeting Minjeong halfway every then and there. None of them ever complained about the strange arrangement.

—————

Yizhuo was onto her, and her secretary truly knew her better than anyone else.

“Is there something going on between you and Jeong?” The secretary blurted out in the middle of their little outing, catching the lawyer off guard.

Jimin placed the dress on the hangar back onto the rack, composing herself before she responded with something stupid. “She’s proving to be a really good person. Nice to talk to as well. You did say I should open up to making more friends around here.” The raven shrugged, ignoring the look of horror Yizhuo held.

She almost contemplated leaving her friend alone in the middle of the store. “I’ve never heard you say anything nice about your coworkers or employees in my life. Minjeong must be perfection herself for you to have a good opinion about her.” The secretary pushed the cart past her.

It wasn’t hard to admit that there was a relationship blooming between her and Minjeong. The director was rather an interesting figure, didn’t like to back down from a fight. Jimin could tease and tease her and remain unfazed, challenging the raven.

Yizhuo made a face. “I’ll have to tell Aeri to warn her. You can’t be planning anything good out of this, unfortunately.”

The CEO pouted, playfully slapping her friend’s shoulder. “Hey, I can be nice when I need to!” She retaliated in defense.

However, her friend’s expression remained unchanged. “And that is barely.” Yizhuo deadpanned.

Knowing this was a lost battle, the raven trudged away with a huff to another clothing isle.

—————

She still had a lot to learn about Minjeong and how to approach things better.

Like the first time the younger lawyer got jealous and stunned her.

They weren’t even together, which was what made the whole ordeal funny.

Jimin had gotten friendly with another lawyer who she was familiar with even before Minjeong came to the scene. When Jimin meant friendly, she meant respectful enough for her coworker to feel comfortable with….whatever she attempted at times.

She wasn’t going to lie, Defense Attorney Shin had a gorgeous face and infinite charms but the dark haired lawyer wasn’t interesting in anything besides document sorting help. Ryujin, on the other hand, didn’t make her advances less obvious.

Ryujin suggested going out for dinner, and Jimin accepted, thinking nothing of it. It was a nice dinner and Ryujin was genuinely a nice person to chat with. It was almost like the woman was trying to get on her good side, trying to unravel Jimin’s secrets.

The next day, they chatted consistently, Ryujin taking the duty of walking with the lawyer everywhere and having lunch with her. Again, the raven thought nothing of it.

She began to notice how Minjeong struggled to answer her messages, avoided her gaze when she walked past her. Jimin waited in the bathroom at times before realizing that Minjeong wasn’t coming. The younger lawyer found interest in her group of coworkers and food when they had lunch. The gnawing feeling in Jimin’s chest nagged her to no end, confusion battling with her little ounce of concern.

The reason why she brushed it off was because they barely interacted in public in the first place, only occasionally to ask questions or for a favor. It definitely shouldn’t matter that Jimin was talking to Ryujin or that Ms. Kim was letting a different woman practically feel her up every lunch break.

They weren’t together. Jimin needed to act like she was perfectly fine. The last thing she wanted was to admit that she was jealous of someone she didn’t have the right to be jealous of.

“Ms. Yu, is everything alright? You’re gripping your fork a little tightly.” Ryujin snapped her out of her thoughts, Jimin realizing she had been facing the direction of Minjeong and her coworker.

Putting in a smile, she didn’t want to take out her anger on an innocent person. “I’m fine, thank you, Shin.” She inhaled and exhaled while watching Minjeong walk over to pull the woman’s chair.

They weren’t together. She had to reminding herself.

The plastic fork eventually snapped, Jimin’s chair scrapping across the floor as she stood to her feet. She couldn’t stand being in this suffocating atmosphere—it felt like an attack on her pride.

She was better than this, Yu Jimin was much better than this.

Everyone couldn’t miss the echoing clack of heels that echoed down the hallway to the elevator. A signature for the lawyer. The trek that let everyone in the firm know that she wasn’t in a good mood. She didn’t even let Ryujin ask her what was wrong or catch up to her. All she knew was that her head was hot and she didn’t need to see a certain redhead smooching up to other people.

Yet, she let Minjeong in when she knocked on her office door without much of a fight. “What do you want, Kim? I’m a very busy woman-” Jimin was barely able to utter a word out when she was spun around and pressed against the door.

She made a sound of surprised, noticing the fury in the redhead’s eyes. Swallowing, Jimin’s fingers grip the material of her pants as she waited for Minjeong to say something. But she didn’t—only stared at her with an intense gaze through her black frames. She watched as the younger lawyer took a breath and let her eyes wander, from top to bottom. The raven felt bare under Minjeong’s gaze, having never seeing her like this.

It wasn’t supposed to be attractive, for goodness sake, Minjeong hadn’t even done anything. She was supposed to be mad at her. But Jimin felt heat pool in her body and her throat was drying up at the moment. She wanted to tell herself to get a grip because she was supposed to be upset at the woman, not silently begging for her to slam their lips together and do a little more.

Yu.” Minjeong looked at her briefly under the glare of her glasses. In her eyes, the normal glint of teasing was usually there, but this time, it was no where to be found.

The dark haired lawyer blinked, a finger lifting her chin ever slightly. “Y-Yes?” She cursed internally for stuttering. But she couldn’t help it. This situation was too much.

Minjeong’s eyes dropped to her lips shamelessly, her thumb brushing lightly over the older’s bottom lips. “You’re mine, by the way.” She simply whispered, her voice draping like silk.

It flipped a switch in the older lawyer as Jimin’s face switched to a firm one. “I’m not-” She tried to rebut then the latter pressed a rather sweet kiss to her lips, fully jumbling up her thoughts together in one big mess. The raven melted, her hand scrambling to Minjeong’s waist. “O-Okay, yours.”

A tongue swiped past her bottom lip, asking for entrance, which Jimin gave. Minjeong’s tongue brushed with her’s, a wave of lightning rushing through the older’s body that pulled a whine from her.

Maybe with the combination of the red haired lawyer’s perfume scent, her body pressing up on her and that marvelous tongue, was a recipe for disaster. Yu Jimin wasn’t like this. Everyone was supposed to be intimidated by her, yet here this woman was, rendered speechless and writhing by a simple act. The raven wanted to be disappointed in herself, although, she couldn’t because when did losing ever feel this good?

They were in there, letting their mixed sighs and breathing fill the office. In a way, Jimin felt weak in the knees in just how the redhead seemed passionately pass a message. Minjeong was firm, stood her ground, and her kisses were one enough to be remembered for a lifetime, yet her touches at times, displayed a sense of care. Jimin was left to decipher what it all meant.

Funny enough, they only broke apart when the younger’s lawyer’s phone vibrated rather rapidly. Minjeong attempted to break their kiss apart, however, the older kept her in place, cupping the back of neck to keep her in place.

“Jimin, I gotta go. I have a trial in two hours.” Yet, she still moved her lips with rhythm, barely making the move to separate them. Her lips were so addicting like Jimin was downing glasses of sweet grape wine.

After a minute, Jimin had to pry herself from the lawyer reluctantly, letting the younger go. She couldn’t lie, she hadn’t been able to spend as much time with the younger as she liked, and now, they were separating again.

Looking down and away from Minjeong’s beautiful brown eyes, the raven looked down at the floor and tried to keep her heartbeat a bay.

Inhaling, the redhead made her lift her gaze, using her fingers to tuck a strand behind Jimin’s ear. “I’ll see you later, okay? Text me when you get off.” Minjeong said softly, placing a sound kiss onto her lips, completely opposite from the known kisses from earlier.

The older melted into it until the latter pulled away. The redhead made a swift move to peck her cheek before making her way out of the office. When the door shut close, the dark haired lawyer let her head fall backwards onto the door and put a hand over her face as she slid down the door. Her heart was currently doing cartwheels. She was losing her footing.

Jimin was a mess. She learnt something.

It was all this evil woman’s fault and her name was Kim Minjeong.

—————

The one day she decided to go out with her close friends was the day they decided to interrogate her.

She knew the reason why they were doing so—her sudden change in demeanor. The other reason, Minjeong had let a mark that she totally forgot to cover up and claimed that it was an accident.

Something about her smelling good.

Jimin hadn’t realized she had been wearing it like a necklace for everyone to see until one of her friends pointed out the blemish on her skin.

Yeji placed her chin on the palm of her hand. “Hey, you didn’t tell us you were getting it on with someone.” She wiggled her eyebrow suggestively.

Suddenly, everyone’s attention was on her, all of them eyeing something specifically. Jimin couldn’t figure out what exactly they were looking at, but she felt burned under their gazes.

Jimin laughed awkwardly. “What are you talking about?” She hoped they didn’t notice her hesitation.

Chaewon pointed to her neck, pressing her fingertip against the skin. “There’s something here.. Looks a lot like a hickey. I thought you didn’t have time for relationships.” She questioned in amuse and the raven internally groaned.

She had a few seconds to come up with an excuse because there was no way she was going to give up her cover now. The teasing she’d have to enthuse for the rest of her life would never leave her be.

Jimin cleared her throat, putting on a straight face. “I ran into the door this morning. I didn’t know it looked this bad.” She brushed her fingers over the bruise, closing her eyes to curse the culprit who had actually caused the blemish.

However, her friends were not convinced. Yunjin tilted her head slightly, as if she was studying the lawyer. “There’s something you’re not telling us.” Yunjin pressed even further, trying to get Jimin to open up.

She had to put her foot down or else she was going to say something she regretted soon. “Ladies, I’m a very busy woman. I don’t have time to mingle and neither do I kiss and tell either.” The dark haired lawyer avoided their prying eyes, looking everywhere but in front of her.

It was true. She hadn’t dated any since she arrived to firm. Maybe she had the occasional flings but even those were every once in a blue moon. Everyone often called her a workaholic so she hoped it backed her up enough to support her words.

Though, she found no need in entertaining their nonsense any longer. After a long moment of silence, the raven cleared her throat and excused herself to the bathroom. She shut the door closed, pulled out her makeup bag and dialed a number.

“Oh, the beautiful lady decided to call me? How may I help you?” Minjeong greeted, oblivious to the fact that the other lawyer was working endlessly to cover up a mark she had left.

Jimin nearly growled at the response, brushing harshly at the blemish with concealer. “Fuck you.” She spat, whining in frustration when the her concealer wasn’t doing the job.

On the other end, the redhead scoffed. “You already did, like yesterday. Anyways, what’s the issue? You never call.” Ruffling was heard and the older lawyer paused to guess what she was doing.

She knew the younger wouldn’t understand the state of this situation. Jimin was one inch away from having her life exposed. “You left a mark on one of the most obvious places in the world. Are you trying to get at me or something?” Luckily, the longer she worked, the closer the bruise was getting to being hidden.

They both annoyed eachother to know end, in ways Jimin couldn’t recalled. She might occasionally enjoy it, the attention, but there were times where it was too much.

A long silence took over them as the older lawyer shut her concealer closed. “Don’t act like you don’t like it. Honestly, it was an accident. I didn’t mean to leave a mark but you were just so sexy and smelt so, so good.” Minjeong was going to get carried away if she didn’t end this call right away.

Shoving her makeup bag, Jimin listened to Minjeong talk for a bit longer until she realized thatneeded to go. “Okay, baby, that’s really nice and all but I have to go. The girls are waiting for me.” She told the younger wearily. She didn’t want to hang up yet.

Silence engulfed them once more while the older leaned against the bathroom door. Minjeong sighed deeply before speaking. “Sorry, I’m talking too much. I’m also sorry for the hickey. I’ll let you go now.”

Shaking her head frantically, Jimin stood up straight. “No, I like listening to you talk. Just next time, leave them on places where no one can see them.” She worried her bottom lip in between her teeth all as guilt breezed by her.

Minjeong took a moment before she answered. “…..Okay. Have a nice day, Jimin.” The redhead’s voice piqued up in tone, causing the older to release a sigh of relief.

“You too, I’ll see you later. Bye.” The phone hung up and Jimin realized that they sounded too much like girlfriends. She didn’t mind.

She finished up in the bathroom and returned back to the living room where her friends were sitting comfortably on the couches. When they spotted her, they all crossed their arms, with curious eyebrows raised. The lawyer sighed and walked to an open seat.

They were watching a show and the raven knew they’d eventually return to it if they minded her business. “Trouble in paradise?” Yunjin suddenly spilt out. Of course, that was asking for too much.

“No such thing, Yunjin.”

—————

There was something wrong with her, and she felt broken. But more of a ‘What’s going on with me?’ way.

Her friends took notice of that, that subtle shift that occurred. She felt a pressure that wanted her to slip and spill the things that had been going on in her life.

Frankly, the moments her and Minjeong have had there and there helped her somehow. Her mood improved and she was confident that the younger’s lawyer was rubbing off her. She was becoming tolerate of too many things.

Or maybe it was because Minjeong always let the older have her way without any complaints.

Her coworkers were discussing a big case that one of them had to handle, that had everyone invested—except for Jimin. No, she was too focused daydreaming about how Minjeong was going to fuck her later.

If a smoking hot, charming lawyer came into her vicinity, usually, she wouldn’t pay any mind to giggling and gossiping that would ensue. With Minjeong, it was different, because the younger was the only one who seemed to keep her on her toes.

Breathing in and out, Jimin squeezed her legs together, shifting uncomfortably. Her coworkers glanced at her, noticing her discomfort.

Yunjin nudged her with her elbow. “Hey, you’ve been quiet. Something on your mind, Yu?” Yeah, Minjeong’s long slender fingers-

Flashing the women around her a tight lipped smile, she tried to ignore the redhead’s teasing smirk shiny back at her. “I’m fine. Perfectly fine.” The dark haired lawyer blurted a bit too quickly.

Minjeong, a few tables away, was trying hard not to snicker. She knew what she did to Jimin. The raven silently groaned when the younger lawyer sent her a wink.

Her coworkers gave her unconvinced looks. “You can barely stay still. Are you sure you’re okay, Jimin?” Yeji pressed a button further, but all she can think about was the way Minjeong made a ‘V’ shape with her fingers and made a slow motion with her tongue between it. She was provoking her.

So much for being professional.

Fuck.

Jimin felt heat pool at her lower part of her body, tearing her gaze from that evil woman. “I’m fine, guys. Seriously, I think I had too much coffee.” She needed the redhead inside her, now.

12:14 PM [DO NOT TEXT]: Your’s or mine’s?

The rest of the day couldn’t have moved any faster.

—————

Minjeong.” Jimin let out a long moan, continuing to rock her hips against Minjeong’s stomach. The muscles tensed under her, encouraging her to increase her rhythm.

The redhead looked up at her with lidded eyes, letting her hands grip onto her sides. Minjeong watched in awe as the raven moved on her, chased for her orgasm. Jimin’s hands rested on her chest and her head fell backwards as she moved even faster.

Minjeong smiled widely, her hands squeezing the older’s butt. “You feel so good. Didn’t know you liked my abs that much.” She leaned up to meet Jimin, who was moving downwards.

The bed was knocking against the wall from the rocking, the raven feeling the tugging in her stomach as she neared. “S-Shut up.” Jimin mumbled, kissing the red haired woman with edge to her voice.

Finally, Jimin came undone, slickness being felt under her. She rested her head against the younger’s shoulder and took it as time to catch her breath.

A hand stroked her back, gently. “I’m guessing you’re done for the night.” Minjeong whispered near her ear. She placed a kiss just right on her neck.

The older shook her head, one of her hands cupping the latter’s neck. “You haven’t even done all the things you said you’d do to me yet. I just need a moment.” She sighed and smiled as Minjeong laughed.

Minjeong eventually flipped them over, resting her body against Jimin’s back, in between the raven’s legs. She brushed strands from Jimin’s face, placing steady kisses all over her face as her hand trailed down Jimin’s body. With her other hand, she pulled the blanket over them.

The air around them became tensed, nearly suffocating Jimin with anticipation. The way Minjeong caressed each inch of skin made her whine, an overwhelming feeling washing over her. It gave the raven too much time to think, gasping for air as the younger lowered herself down her body.

“What I want to do to you…. Oh, baby, that is a long list….” Minjeong slid a finger into her, all too suddenly. Jimin arched back into Minjeong with a loud moan. The way the younger spoke quietly, voice husky and low, sparked something in the raven. She found it attractive, having Minjeong pressed to her back, skin on skin with the redhead pressing light feathery kisses to her neck.

Slowly, fingers make their way in between Jimin’s knuckles, squeezing with her free hand. Minjeong placed a soft kiss to the back of her neck, moving her finger with medium pace.

Jimin breathed in through her nose, writhing under Minjeong. “More.” Her hips bucked up, seeking more friction. She couldn’t believe she was seriously begging.

Warm air spread near the raven’s ear, the lips curling upwards on her skin. Minjeong inserted another digit, causing Jimin to mewl loudly into the pillow, filling her even more. The younger woman increased her pace, Jimin’s moans becoming louder. The pleasure erupted throughout her body, her hips rolling to meet Minjeong’s fingers. Minjeong curled her fingers, finding her spot. Jimin’s stomach pooled intensely, her mind blanking at the same time.

“It’s funny how you’re always glaring daggers at me at work, act like you hate my guts. Yet, behind the scenes, you like when I kiss you, when I touch you, hold you-” Minjeong moved her fingers with preciseness, quickly inserting a third finger that caught the older woman off guard. “-When I fuck you.”

Jimin whimpered, her hips bucking once again. She was practically riding Minjeong’s fingers, unable to form a coherent thought. She was so close, nearly seeing white and her breath coming out raggedy. However, for some reason, she wanted to face the redhead when she unraveled.

She quickly turned onto her back, without interrupting the pace and pulled Minjeong closer. Their lips met in a slow, passionate kiss, the one that had the older questioning her self about just what exactly the nature of their relationship was. She asked herself that question because she was sure friends with benefit didn’t lock lips like they were each other’s only source of oxygen. Now, with their mixed hums and moans, the inevitable tension, with not a single ounce of space between them, Jimin had to confront the truth.

Minjeong caressed her thigh, kneading the flesh, a little too intimately. She knew it made Jimin feel good when she took her time in sucking the skin under her ear, biting lightly under her chin or dragging her tongue across her collarbones. But each movement seemed to be performed calculatedly, like she wanted to make the older woman feel adorned.

“Minjeong. Minjeong. F- fuck! Harder.” Jimin pulled her closer, keened as the redhead moaned into her mouth, breathy and hot.

Each moment they stayed under the blanket, the raven enjoyed every second of. She dragged her hand down Minjeong’s back when she clenched around the younger’s fingers.

Jimin shifted forward slightly, desperately chasing her climax. The redhead only hummed, brushing her thumb over that specific spot. “I’m close. I’m close. Please don’t stop.” The raven cried out, holding Minjeong against her.

The redhead looked down at her with calmly, kissing her softly in between. “Breathe, baby.” Minjeong moved to her collarbone, a few husky whispers nearly pushing her over the edge.

With a few more thrust, Jimin moaned rather loudly into Minjeong’s mouth, her mouth forming an O shape as pleasure erupted through her body. The breathing definitely helped her release feel ten times better, stars being seen under her half lidded eyelids. Her body shook under Minjeong, all the tension inside felt relieved. The redhead let her ride it out until Jimin’s body relaxed onto the pillow.

Lifting her head to check up on her, the redhead brushed her knuckles in her other hand across Jimin’s cheek. Then she slowly pulled out, her fingers drenched with arousal. Minjeong rose her fingers to her mouth and licked it clean right in front of her with a smirk.

There was something wrong. This wasn’t part of the plan.

Her heart wasn’t supposed to be pacing, the lump in her throat shouldn’t have been so hard to swallow. Everything came crashing too fast for her to comprehend.

Minjeong gazed at her like she was her whole world and the older woman didn’t know what to think of it or what it was.

“Do you want to take a bath together?”

She should’ve said no when they sank into the tub together, crossing a line to no way home.

—————

Throughout this thing, they’ve nearly gotten caught multiple times. Neither the both of them could keep their hands to themselves. Sometimes the older attorney had Minjeong withdrawals.

At the same time, she couldn’t believe the thrill that brought secretly sneaking glances across the room.

Jimin was sure she was starting to overthink things. Well, more of her situation with the redhead lawyer.

Besides the heated moments, she was dealing with a woman who saw the fun in things. Minjeong enjoyed coursing laughter out of her when she talked about her humorous experiences in law school. Jimin’s heart fluttered whenever the younger let out the prettiest giggles in response and playfully slapped her arm.

She adored the way Minjeong’s cheeks flushed pink when Jimin flashed her a wink from across the room after sending something frisky through their messages. The older woman never batted Aeri an eye whenever her friend gave her confused looks. She was enjoying this, enjoying something that made her feel like she was a teenager again. Even if she had no idea where this was supposed to lead her in the end.

The little things between them were calm secrets, hushed and sacred when their lips meet with eagerness. However the times where Jimin would find her back sunk into the soft mattress of Minjeong’s bed, with the redhead tracing shapes in her arms, she dreamt of more. Maybe not more—but something real, secure. As to how much she wanted it, it took day and night just to stop thinking about what they could’ve had.

At first, she wasn’t expecting this thing to take the turn it did. Worst of all, she had made a drastic mistake, something she realized it one time while watching a movie with Minjeong leaning into her. How it got to this point, where they did domestic stuff together, were comfortable to do something other than sex—was a question left for another day.

For now, she knew she had a chance to have Minjeong.

As she breathed in the red haired lawyer’s shampoo and rested her cheek against her head, Jimin felt her heart drop to her stomach. Their legs were tangled in an incomparable mess and the raven didn’t want to leave it. She felt a raw desire to stay there, with the TV illuminating on their faces and their fingers intertwined. The soft glint in Minjeong’s eyes before she turned Jimin’s chin to briefly kiss her scared the life out of her.

Her body’s natural response was to melt into the younger and kiss her back. When they pulled apart, Jimin stared at her, not knowing what to say. Her eyes roamed the red haired attorney’s face, carefully, truly taking in the sight in front of her. She might have wanted to have those lips on her again.

This was bad and she knew she had to cut the strings sooner or later before she fell in too deep.

—————

When Jimin realized she was in love with Kim Minjeong, she knew she had to make a tough decision.

They had gotten too attached, too comfortable. That was no way to tell whether or not the other attorney even felt the same way in the slightest. The days began to become more blurry as her heart started responded way more harshly to the things the redhead did.

“Now, the prosecution would have you believe that’s just a little detail. But in a case where a man’s freedom is on the line, such details matter.” Minjeong threw out in the court, causing the prosecutor to stand to his feet.

Mr. Son sighed. “Objection, Your Honor, counsel is testifying.” He said helplessly. Minjeong had already began to pick everything apart.

The judge lowered his gazed at the redhead. “Sustained. Ms. Kim, keep it to questions.” The judge fixed his glasses and sat up straight.

Jimin noticed the way the redhead’s jaw shifted. “I understand, Your Honor.” Minjeong turned to face the witness. “Mrs. Bae, you said you saw a suspicious man leave the scene at approximately 9:45 AM. Is that correct?” Her head tilted to the side as she waited for a confirmation.

The witness nodded. “Yes. I told the police that the man was wearing a purple hoodie.” Mrs. Bae responded.

However, Minjeong seemed unconvinced. “Ah, but in your statement, you said it was too dark to clearly see anything.” She pushed a good point, the people in the court whispering.

Mrs. Bae’s face morphed into something unreadable. “I- it was a purple hoodie.” She tried to say confidently, but everyone had already seen through her.

Jimin had watched Minjeong during her trials, tried to piece together what made the younger so good at what she did. The only time she ever lost cases was when she was up the most difficult cases or more experienced prosecution. It didn’t mean Minjeong never put up a good fight.

The raven knew Minjeong had thrown off the witness. “You know or you think? And isn’t it true that at the time of this so-called identification, you were standing across the street, nearly fifty feet away, under a broken streetlight? Couldn’t have that interfered with what you were seeing?” The redhead pushed further, which prompted the witness to shift uncomfortably.

“I guess.” Mrs. Bae slumped her shoulders, the prosecutor pinching the bridge of his nose in frustration.

Minjeong clicked the end of pen, facing the judge. “No further questions, Your Honor.” She made a movement, returning to her seat with a satisfied smile.

The judge called to continue the case at a later date, leaving Minjeong to pack up her things. Jimin wanted to approach her but she didn’t know how, especially after the realization. She was going to tell the redhead that she did a good job, however, she decided against it when a long haired woman approach her.

Watching the two comfortably talk settled something painful in her chest. Minjeong wasn’t her’s to keep. So she left the court with tears brimming in her eyes. She felt so sick to her stomach and felt her throat closing up as she walked.

Outside, her driver was waiting. He flashed her a look of concern. “Are you okay, miss?” He opened the door for her, but still followed her movement.

Jimin ignored him and quickly entered the car. She didn’t want to see anyone or do anything.

“Just take me home, Hwan.”

As soon as she stepped into her home, Yizhuo had pulled up right next to her. “I’ll take it from here, you can go.” Her friend wrapped an arm around the raven, whose face was now drenched with tears.

Yizhuo brought her inside and luckily, none of Jimin’s family members were home yet. She settled Jimin down on the couch, helping her take off her coat and heels.

The older lawyer was lifted by her secretary, adjusting her so she was lying sideways. “Wow, you are a mess. I have a feeling that Minjeong did this to you.” Yizhuo released the high ponytail she had sported and the tension in Jimin’s head decreased slightly.

A grumble escaped Jimin’s lips, ultimately wanting to cry afain in how miserable she was feeling. “I- Its not Minjeong’s fault. I just- I’m being dramatic, Zhuo.” She wiped at her face, leaving the younger to sigh.

Honestly, it was a lost cause digging into what this all could mean for her going forward. Jimin had a multitude of options to go about her situation. The last thing she’d want was for her to become distracted during work hours. She felt that Minjeong didn’t owe her anything. Their situationship had came through Jimin mindlessly kissing the redhead first. Minjeong asked her out on a simple date which ended up going beyond just eating dinner. It was a mutual thing, although, just how mutual, she didn’t know.

In the back of her mind, there were constant considerations about the consequences that came with the fire Minjeong was. Too many strings were attached and it’d be a lie in if she said she opposed getting burnt just to reach the redhead.

Yizhuo stayed with her until she managed to catch her breath. She was grateful her friend knew there was something wrong. If she was alone, she probably would’ve been in a worse state.

Sitting up again and wiping her tears, Jimin took a courageous step. “Me and Minjeong have been…. we’ve just been hanging out for a few months now. Everything happened too fast and I realized that I wanted more than just occasional heated moments. I like being around her and I like the way I feel when she’s next to me. I don’t know if Minjeong feels the same though and I’m absolutely terrified.” The raven lowered her head, her fingers fiddling with the material of her pants.

Yizhuo reached for her hand and squeezed it, her shoulders falling with the older. “Let me guess, your defense mechanism is slowly pushing her away instead of acknowledging the elephant in the room.” As she spoke, Jimin broke down again, allowing her friend to pull her into her arms.

“I don’t know what to do, Yizhuo. I saw her with another woman and I couldn’t help but feel some type of way about it. I don’t want to lose her.” She wailed loudly, her tears wetting Yizhuo’s shoulders. The younger woman let her cry and cry, incoherent mumbles being spoken until she exhausted herself of tears.

Yizhuo rubbed her shoulder, occasionally wiping her tears. “You won’t lose her. Just talk to her.” She reassured her, in attempt to comfort her.

If only it was that easy.

—————

Talking, she didn’t do.

Instead, she avoided Minjeong like the plague, stopped going to the bathroom around their ‘scheduled’ time and started treating the younger like she did when she first got here. She was terrified, absolutely terrified about what would happen if she saw the red haired lawyer face to face. Her self control was on the verge of breaking.

The only person who knew was Yizhuo and she had been trying to convince the raven to speak to Minjeong instead of leaving her in the dark. Everytime Jimin had built up the courage to tell the redhead the truth, something came up and her heart sunk at the negative outcomes.

What Minjeong only thought of them of friends with benefit and had never thought of Jimin that way? What if she didn’t care about Jimin the way she cared about Minjeong. What if she didn’t want a relationship? She didn’t want to make a fool of herself for thinking they could be something more.

The lawyer let her head fall flat onto the stack of papers on her desk. She was a total mess and didn’t know what to do with her life anymore.

So she did what she did best. Work and worked. She was drowning herself in cases and papers but she didn’t care because it gave her excuses whenever Minjeong texted her or when anyone asked what was wrong.

“I’m sorry, I’m really busy with work.”

“I can’t tonight, my family is eating dinner at a resturant later.”

“I wish I could but I have a trial tomorrow. Maybe later.”

They were all weak pathetic excuses but they took it—Minjeong took it and the dark haired lawyer couldn’t help but feel bad for pushing her away. Yet, it felt like the only way to avoid the inevitable.

They had their own lives. Minjeong wouldn’t even notice she’s gone.

—————

Jimin tried to think through the hushed whispers of the court, barely glancing over at her client. Something was throwing her off. She had been acting weird for a while.

“Mr. Seo, could you please describe what happened on the evening of October 18th?” The prosecutor asked.

The raven’s lips thinned, waiting for the man to speak.

Mr. Seo sat up straight, preparing to recall the incident. “I had been working late and was on my way home. I parked my car in front of my house, like always. As I was unloading some things from my trunk, I saw Ms. Hong driving down the street.” He paused for a beat before continuing. “She was speeding in a 15mph area, and then, without warning, she swerved off the road and crashed right into my car. She didn’t stop at all to see what she had done or check on me. She had sped off without any warning.”

Closing her eyes, Jimin knew it was going to be a long day. She had to push through if she wanted to get out of it in one piece.

The prosecutor hummed, walking side to side as he swung his own. “How exactly did the incident affect you, Mr. Seo?” He finally stopped to point at the victim.

The raven was studying the man, noticed how he seemed anxious just like her client beside her. She didn’t know what to make of Mr. Seo just yet.

Mr. Seo sighed, looking down at his lap before lifting his face again. “It was a very special vehicle to me. It was my first car I had gotten from my dad and it took so much time and money to make it what it was before. And now I don’t know if there’s anymore hope in trying to fix it.” He explained, clearly upset about the situation at hand.

Once he finished, the prosecutor noted that he had no more questions, finally allowing Jimin to speak.

She stood up straight and tall. “Mr. Seo, I just have a few questions for you. I noticed that you mentioned that Ms. Hong had swerved off the road and hit your car. Did you happen to see her face, or make any attempt to speak to her after the incident?” The dark haired lawyer tried, waiting patiently for the man’s answer.

Shaking his head, Mr. Seo immediately knew what to say. “Nope. She had drove off because I could even get her license plate.”

The attorney rose an eyebrow. “So… You’ve never had any sort of interactions with my client?” She leaned forward, resting her weight are her palms.

Mr. Seo tilted his head to the side in attempt to jot his memory. “We live in the same neighborhood so I’ve occasionally seen her around. That’s it.” He breathed out lowly, leaving Jimin to return to her seat.

Jimin gazed at the judge. “Okay…. I have no further questions, Your Honor.” She sat back down and immediately wrote something in her notebook.

It was an interesting case, the rest of it. After Jimin finished with the trial, she packed her things, eagerly wanting to go home.

As she walked through the gallery, Aeri approached, skittering in her heels. “So? Any plans?” The woman caught up to the older white was walking fast.

The lawyer stopped in front of an elevator, jabbing the button. “Home.” Jimin couldn’t think of anything else other than her bed calling her name.

She needed someone to talk to about this tornado forming and threatening to ruin everything she had built. It had been a week or two since she had a personal moment with Minjeong, in attempt to establish a boundary that had been crossed ages ago.

Despite that, the redhead hadn’t make an attempt to reach out to her since. She didn’t want to admit that it was driving her nuts. Ironic, considering the fact that Jimin was the one who had thrown their chance at being nothing more than friends/coworkers out the window when she lost her head and kissed Minjeong first.

Minjeong knew when to push and when to back away supposedly. Currently, Jimin’s whole goal was to stay and push Minjeong away.

They both entered the elevator, leaving the two of them alone. Aeri rolled her eyes when the doors closed. “Do you do anything outside your life besides work? You don’t have a love life, barely go out, you keep your friend circle small and scare everyone away.” The younger woman named the list of things Jimin didn’t have.

None of those things were what she cared about. Atleast currently, because as Aeri spoke, all she heard was ‘sleep, sleep, and sleep.’

Shrugging, Jimin stepped out of the elevator as soon as it opened fully. “Those are called distractions.” She shot back, lifting her wrist to look at her Apple Watch.

2PM [DO NOT TEXT]: You seem off today. Something’s bothering you. You haven’t talked to me in a while. I know when to give you space and that’s what I’ve done. But I can’t sit here and act like I haven’t been worried every second of the day.

2:02 PM [DO NOT TEXT]: I left you alone because I thought you needed space but….. I don’t know if I can do anymore.

2:03 PM [DO NOT TEXT]: Ugh, I’m just going to say it. I miss you and I don’t know what’s going on with me.

The lawyer’s heart dropped to her stomach, reading the message over and over. Minjeong was worried, about her and missed her?

2:04 PM [DO NOT TEXT]: Do you want to come over?

Whatever Aeri was saying was none and void. This was the first text Minjeong had sent her in ages.

2:05 PM [Ceo Yu]: I’m sorry, I’m not really in the mood for it right now….. I’m just really tired. It’s been a day.

2:06 PM [DO NOT TEXT]: Babe, I’m not a horny freak all the time, you know? I can be sweet and caring if you’d like, too.

Jimin laughed, capturing Aeri’s attention. “Who has you smiling like that? You have that stupid grin on your face.” The other woman tried to peek at her watch, but to no avail.

2:08 PM [DO NOT TEXT]: I was going to say that you can hop in my car, I’ll take you home and make us some dinner so you can relax. You can even sleep over and even steal my clothes, it’s the weekend. Whatever you want, the choice is yours, darling ;)

2:10 PM [DO NOT TEXT]: I have something to tell you too.

Even if Jimin had fought tooth and nails to brush the redhead aside, there seemed to be a Minjeong sized hole begging to filled in her heart. She had ignored and avoided the younger lawyer, but still, at the end of the day, Minjeong still cared.

The older lawyer looked up, noticing a familar BWM right near the curb. Safe to say, Jimin felt better already. “Aeri, I have to get going. My ride is here.” She gave her friend a hug and skittered away toward the front of the building before the other woman could question her.

She weighed the outcome. If she goes home with the red head, she would get to relax and just spend time with her. When she thought about it, it felt all too intimate for their arrangement and it terrified Jimin a little that she wanted to do these small gestures with the younger lawyer.

She liked to imagine that maybe the redhead liked her atleast a little bit.

Entering the car, Jimin sighed when her body sunk into the seat, Minjeong’s car freshener wavering in the air. She felt like she could fall asleep right then and there.

The raven felt Minjeong reach over her to put her seatbelt on, causing her to sit up so she could do it herself. However, the red haired lawyer pecked her lips, disrupting her thought process like always. Those damn lips.

“Relax, I’ll take care of you for the rest of the day.” The younger woman said softly before placing a kiss to her forehead.

Jimin sighed, deciding that while being pampered by Minjeong sounded skeptical after all she had discovered, she knew that it wasn’t the worst thing that could’ve happened.

As Minjeong started driving, Jimin let her eyes close, succumbing into the dreams of a certain redhead.

When she woke up, the raven found herself under a blanket that smelled so much like Minjeong. She lifted her head from the pillow and looked around the bedroom. The aroma of food filled her nose, making her stomach growl in response.

It was dark outside, making Jimin wonder just how long she had been asleep for. Her legs swung over the edge of the bed and she let her feet making contact with the cold hard floor.

Minjeong was outside that door, cooking food for her. The lawyer swallowed the nervous lump in her throat at her sudden realization.

The door slowly creaked open, revealing a comfortable redhead. “Hey, you’re awake.” Minjeong sported loose sweatpants that hung at her waist, a sweatshirt covering her upper body that seemed to engulf her. She looked adorable.

As the younger lawyer approached her, Jimin opened her arms wide. Minjeong smiled softly, accepting her request for a hug. When the raven had her in her embrace, she locked her ankles around Minjeong’s back, leaning backward and bringing the younger along with her. She missed the woman so much.

Jimin was able to catch a whiff of Minjeong’s shampoo, sweet and alluring. She dug her nose into her hair and just breathed her in. She was unable to believe that she had taken the redhead for granted.

They both giggled loudly, Jimin peppering kisses all over Minjeong’s face. “I’m so in love with you.” The words slipped out before the raven could realized she had said them.

They both froze.

Jimin covered her mouth as her eyes widened. Minjeong slowly shifted her gaze until it met the older’s. “What did you just say?” The red haired lawyer’s gaze was enough to puncture skin at the way she was looking at the raven.

Shaking her head, the older lawyer covered her face completely, wanting to disappear. “Nothing! Nothing!” Take her now.

Instead, the redhead carefully removed Jimin’s hands away from her face and tangled their fingers together. “Don’t be shy, darling. I feel the same way. I have feelings for you which is why I do all this stuff. I don’t like seeing you upset, I like seeing your pretty face and smile. It’s just a bummer you managed to express yourself before I could.” Minjeong’s eyes twinkled with something unknown, a type of glint Jimin’s seen before.

Even if Jimin’s heart was thumping in her ears, all she could hear was the redhead’s voice cutting right through it.

So she did what she thought of at the moment, which was to seal her feelings with a kiss. Unlike the others they had shared, this one is slow, lacked the intense heat that came with the others. This time, Jimin’s chest hurt from the overwhelming sensation that erupted. Something like love. Minjeong’s hand caressed her cheek while the raven tightened her hold around the younger’s frame.

It felt right and she felt safe.

She had fallen for unique lawyer with ridiculous humor and bright red hair. She had no reason to be ashamed.

“I’m sorry for avoiding you. I was left to deal with these mushy feelings and didn’t know what to do. I was afraid that you wouldn’t feel the same and dealt with it the only way I knew how.” Jimin apologized, the weight of her actions nearly mixing with sentiment.

Minjeong shook her head, brushing aside strands of the raven’s dark locks. She stared at her deeply, prompting Jimin’s heart to race evidently in her chest. “Remember what I told you on our first date?”

The older lawyer recalled that night, a time where she actually enjoyed herself. She hadn’t expect something so little to turn into something significant.

Heaving out, Minjeong placed a long kiss on her cheek, then her forehead, and her jaw. “I told you that I wanted to get to know you. All of you. I couldn’t do that if you willingly shut me out, put up this brick stone wall all around you. But I feel like I’ve done a pretty good job tearing it apart, haven’t I?” The redhead said proudly, peppering the lightest of pecks onto Jimin’s lips.

She didn’t know when it happened but the raven’s legs had wrapped around her waist, ankles locked on her back. Jimin never wanted to separate from her. Ever.

“Yeah, maybe you did.”

Their food was nearly forgotten during their heartfelt moment. But Jimin didn’t care. She was full on something else.

Warmth.

—————

Glances in the firm became a little more bold, longer. Whenever their eyes met, there was more understanding in things, without having to say anything.

On Valentine’s Day, being a few months since they had started dating, Jimin surprised Minjeong with a simple bouquet of flowers, slipping into her office and greeting her with a rather sweet kiss.

The younger accepted the flowers with a smile, her arm wrapped around Jimin. “These smell amazing, thank you.” Minjeong told her in gratitude. She tangled her fingers in Jimin’s hair as their lips met once more.

The older lawyer melted, flutters erupting in her stomach. She sported a grin when they pulled apart and followed her girlfriend to her desk. Minjeong leaned under her desk, taking out her own bouquet of flowers, along with a decent size box.

Eyeing the box oddly, Jimin moved to open it and lifted a glass circular bottle of perfume. Gasping, she couldn’t believe her eyes. “I’ve been looking for this specific one everywhere! How did you know I wanted it?” She looked at the other lawyer, who was replicating her excitement.

There had been a particular perfume that she had been searching for a while now. She had searched the entire web for the item and had no luck finding it. That was until her girlfriend surprised her with a size big enough to last her for the rest of the year.

“I pay attention to you, that’s what.” She gave Jimin a brief hug before walking back to sit on her chair. “Ugh, I don’t know who makes someone organize a whole catalogue for fun. Mr. Lim is evil.”

Chuckling and setting her gifts down on the couch, Jimin situated herself on top of the redhead’s desk just beside where the other woman was seated. Funnily enough, the flowers and chocolates weren’t the only Valentine’s Day gift she had for the younger lawyer. Her heel trailed up Minjeong’s leg all while the woman tried to get back to work.

To be fair, Minjeong gave her attention on a regular basis, and her being busy on Valentine’s Day out of all days couldn’t bother her. It was easy to.

She smiled mischievously when the younger lawyer shivered, clearing her throat. “Jimin. Just give me one moment and my attention is all yours.” She squeaked out, which only pushed the raven even more.

Jimin reached for her top, slowly unbuttoning a few buttons until her dark blue lace peeking from her shirt. Minjeong’s attention was on her, just like that. The red haired lawyer swallowed, her eyes staring shamelessly at the lace before jerking her head away.

Minjeong frantically shook her head. “Nope. Nope. I need to finish this.” The woman said, mostly to herself.

Smirking, the raven leaned closer until she was Minjeong’s ear. “I was only teasing a little gift. Come get it when you’re finished.” And with that, she kissed the younger lawyer’s cheek and hopped off the desk. “Thank you for the valentine’s gift.”

She made sure to button up in front of her girlfriend, excruciatingly slowly before taking her leave. That should’ve be enough to keep Minjeong motivated.

When she closed the door to Minjeong’s office, she failed to realize that Aeri was right across from her, a look of knowing situated on her face. It scared the living daylights out of Jimin.

“Talk. Now.”

—————

Telling Aeri everything that had happened in the span of 20 minutes had to be a world record. She had close her friend’s agape mouth, nervously chuckling as she finally finished.

The woman shook her head in disbelief, trying to comprehend the situation. “I thought those type of sexual tension only happened in TV shows. Explains why you always looked riled up at times. Good for you!” Aeri’s expression changed immediately.

Jimin blinked. “You’re not mad I’ve been hiding it from you? Well, I didn’t want to-” She was cut off when Aeri softly grabbed her hands and squeezed them.

Aeri pressed her lips together and shook her head. “No, I’m not upset. You’re a grown adult, and you’re one of my good friends. I trust that you’d know when you’re comfortable enough to tell me things. To be honest, I’m just glad you’re finally happy. I’ve seen the way your mood brightens everyday. It was all her, wasn’t it?”

Jimin swallowed a lump in her throat while looking down at their hands. She slowly nodded, feeling the weight off her shoulders. Minjeong brightened up her life, there was no used in denying.

Letting go of the older lawyer’s hands, Aeri hummed in approval. “That’s good.” She briefly glanced at her watch. “Well, Minjeong should be done working. Go spend time with your girl.”

They both stood up and shared a brief hug, the raven thanking her friend before saying her goodbyes.

—————

Jimin waited at the lobby, silently greeting the people who walked past her. Minjeong was taking an awfully long time to come down. This day had been on her mind all week long. Now that it has come, she didn’t know what to expect and it wasn’t like it was her first date ever.

It was just a valentines date.

She hadn’t been waiting long, as the redhead got caught in a meeting but they were still on time, the younger lawyer texting her to let her know that she was on her way.

Sighing, the raven pressed her lips together, letting her handbag fall to her side. Just a little longer.

Suddenly, a hand reached her shoulder, falling down her arm. “Sorry, did I keep you waiting?” Jimin turned toward the voice, Minjeong staring at her in concern. She was much closer than she had expected.

Blinking and fighting the stammering in her chest, the ceo slowly nodded. Her eyes followed the brunette, who stepped forward, digging into her purse to pull out her phone. She uttered a few words and the next minute, Minjeong’s now familar bmw entered under the overhanging, parking right in front of the doors.

Minjeong grabbed her free hand, intertwining their fingers during the motion. “Come on.” The redhead smiled as she lead them toward the car.

The younger received the keys from the man, thanking him before opening the passenger door for Jimin. As the raven entered, the younger made sure to put her hand under the top of the car so she wouldn’t bump her head. Minjeong shut the door and quickly ran over to the other side of the car. It didn’t take long for them to get on the road.

Jimin watched in silence, the woman beside her seemingly glowing throughout the whole ride. Was she as excited as she was? About the…..date?

It was different now that they were dating, because their feelings for eachother were overwhelming and Jimin couldn’t believe she could love someone more than she already did.

“You know, we’ve met before. Before I even got into the firm.” Minjeong began, catching the older’s attention. The redhead giggled at Jimin’s expression of horror.

Shuffling in her seat, Jimin rested her head on the headrest, trying to remember where they could’ve met before.

Minjeong tapped the wheel like a timer, and when she stopped, the lawyer huffed in frustration. “Did you know that tyrannosaurus’s bite was more than twice as powerful as a lion’s bite?” The redhead rehearsed, like it had been said multiple times to her.

Jimin’s eyes widening in realization, mentally facepalming. They were childhood friends. “No wonder my parents' liked you from the start. But how come my brother doesn’t remember you?” Her head faced the director with a tilt of her head.

The car turned into a parking lot, unfamiliar to the raven. “I went by my nickname, Winter when I was younger. Didn’t start using my real name until… middle school.”

Seeing that they had arrived, the raven looked around the area. “Where are we?” The older woman was unable to recognize the area since it was so dark.

Minjeong parked the car, grinning brightly. “Um, I asked your friend where your favorite place was and she said you’d like aquatic animals so I rented the whole-”

The redhead was cut off by Jimin kissing the corner of her mouth. Jimin had to admit, there had been a strong urge to kiss her. And it won, it definitely won because when she pulled back, the raven was in disbelief herself.

Tints of red appeared on Minjeong’s cheeks, her hand raising up to touch her lips. “Uh, what was that for?” She cleared her throat awkwardly, her voice coming out low.

Jimin shifted back to her seat and folded her hands together. “I just think it’s really sweet that you decided to bring me here. I don’t care wherever you take me. I’m getting to spend time with you, and that’s all that matters.” The older lawyer’s placed a hand on Minjeong’s thigh, rubbing it in comfort.

Safe to say, this was her coming to terms with her feelings. They had been growing rapidly, nearly out of her control for her to handle now.

And when Minjeong leaned over, tilting her head slightly to press her lips to the raven’s. This time, she made sure Jimin felt every ounce of affection behind it and it made her kiss back with all the passion in her.

Eventually, to her dismay, the woman pulled back, her eyes flickering to the raven’s red lips. “That’s how you do it. Kiss me properly next time, okay?” Minjeong cleared her throat once more, then quickly exited the car without a word more.

She left a stunned raven in the car with her heart pounding faster than it had ever been.

Jimin scrambled to catch up to her girlfriend, slipping her hand into Minjeong’s. Their fingers tangled, gaps in between knuckles being filled. She’d never get tired of it.

As they spent time at the aquarium that they had all to themselves, the dark haired lawyer began to realize that she was unable to see a life without Minjeong. She was too deep. Just how deep—she didn’t know. It was scary but the redhead reassured her everytime that she had just as strong feelings and was also terrified.

They were going to figure it out together.

Jimin had fun explaining to her girlfriend about all the sea creatures she knew. Minjeong listen diligently, even asking questions when she had some. The whole experience felt really romantic especially when there was no one else but the both of them. The raven was able to express herself freely, with someone who loved to listen. Occasionally, the redhead gave her these gazes, like Jimin was her forever. It brought an intimate connection to the scene, and settled a comfort in the raven’s heart.

“I can’t believe someone as scary as you knows so much about sea animals…. it’s kinda hot.” Minjeong stopped them in the middle of the room, where animals swam all around them. Slow music played all of sudden, earning an impressed sound from the older.

Suddenly, the redhead tugged her closer until their fronts were flushed against eachother. It caught the older off guard as she rose her arms to rest them on her girlfriend’s shoulders. She instructed Minjeong to hold her by the waist, which the younger did, boldly. They soon began swaying side to side, becoming lost in their own world.

It was more than nice, holding the other lawyer close after spending months fighting the same feelings that she had for Minjeong.

Jimin breathed in and out deeply, enjoying the warmth between them. “Thank you, for all of this. You didn’t have to. I would’ve been fine with lying in bed with you and binging Netflix shows with you. I just-” She paused, not wanting to get ahead of herself. “I’m happy that you’re finally mine, that I get to be yours.”

A low laugh set Jimin’s heart off, Minjeong’s beautiful voice filling her ears. “I’m happy that you’re mine and I’m yours too. I have to thank my past self for asking you on that date. I’m glad I got to know you.” The redhead leaned close, allowing for their foreheads to meet.

Their lips hovered closely, their noses bumping just slightly. This was all Jimin wanted.

“Kiss me.”

Minjeong laughed breathlessly. “You don’t have to ask.” And then she connected their lips together.

Jimin was glad there was no one in that building because she kissed Minjeong so hard and passionately that her head became lightheaded.

So. Let’s just say that Valentine’s Day ended on a high note that night.
