Chapter Text
Ciel was a beautiful boy.
Long, golden blonde hair, sapphire blue eyes, fair yet lightly freckled skin, he was the most sought after boy in the year.
Albert was his best friend since childhood, a brunette with deep purple eyes. Unlike Ciel, he was not all that chased after, and yet they were always seen together, bickering, like an old married couple.
And yet, they were passing notes in class…
“Albert! Ciel! Would you like to share something with the class?”
The two jumped from their seats, previously giggling, now as still as statues staring at Mr Smith, who was standing right in front of them.
He plucked the piece of paper from Albert’s hands and read it out loud to the class, at the dismay of the two boys.
“Alright let's see what you two found so much more entertaining than my class…”
‘Ciel, don’t you think Mr Smith should teach us about geometry rather than algebra?’
‘Why would he??’
‘Cuz then we could calculate the area of his massive forehead’
Mr Smith looks up in anger as the whole class erupts in laughter, especially Ciel, who was yet to hear the punchline to Albert’s joke.
“Oh, that was a good one Albert!”
But before he could congratulate his friend on his impeccable joke telling, Mr Smith interjected the two.
“AFTER SCHOOL DETENTION, FOR THE BOTH OF YOU!”
The rest of the class continued to giggle as the two boys sighed at each other. Usually their antics weren’t discovered, but this time they finally would reap what they sowed.
— — —
The silence in the detention classroom was palpable. Fortunately, Ciel wasn’t afraid to break the tension.
“Hey, Al” whispered Ciel, who was forced to sit on the opposite side of the detention classroom. The teacher had just left for the bathroom, leaving them alone for the next few minutes.
“What is it, Ciel?” Answered Albert, who had been finishing up his and Ciel’s extra maths homework, as an apology for getting Ciel into detention with him.
“Wanna get out of here?” Ciel said, grinning at the other.
Albert looked back with a grin of his own, packing up the worksheets into his bag frantically as he leaped out of his seat in tandem with Ciel.
Slowly and as quietly as possible, they unlocked the window in the classroom and jumped out, closing the window behind them. Lucky for them, the classroom was on the first floor, and lucky for them, most of the teachers had left the campus already, seeing as it was a Friday after all.
They carefully checked for any teachers on guard near the exit, just in case, and then snuck out of the gate, and booked it for the convenience store down the road.
Panting, the two boys stopped at the front of the store.
“You should be glad it was Friday, if my parents find out I skipped detention they’ll kill me!” Said Albert, almost yelling, but clearly joking around by the big grin on his face.
Ciel smiled back, he always loved making his best friend laugh.
“Your parents would kill you for even getting into detention in the first place!!” he replied.
“Right… let’s hope they come home late today…” Sighed Albert, giving Ciel a friendly hit on the shoulder as they entered the store.
— — —
Albert and Ciel left the store with two slushies, a bag of sour gummy worms and a few coins of change.
They walked over to the bench near the store, a perfect spot to see the sun begin to set.
“So, Al, did you listen to the playlist I sent you?” Asked Ciel.
“Mhm!” replied Albert, still halfway through a slurp of his slushie. “It was really quite nice, you really like TV Girl.”
“Uh, yeah! I would die to hear them live.”
“Mm, but I think you should add some songs by The Smiths.”
“That old British band? I don’t think I would like their songs that much.”
Albert scoffs as he snatched a gummy worm from Ciel’s hands. “How could you say that when you haven’t even heard their songs before? Here,” He said as he pulled out his earphones and cell phone from his pocket and handed one earbud to Ciel, “take one of these, I’ll play one of their songs for you. If you like it enough you should add it to your playlist. ”
“Alright alright…” said Ciel, looking sweetly at the brunette. He loved it when the other got worked up about things he liked.
Albert starts playing There Is a Light That Never Goes Out , waiting for Ciel’s reaction.
Ciel interjects with a few ‘mmm’s and ‘ahh’s, and when the song ends, he seems impressed.
“You know what, this song is pretty good. How about you add it to the playlist?”
Albert celebrates his ‘victory’ over Ciel and takes a handful of gummy worms and chugs some of his slushie.
“Ow. OW! Brain freeze…!” He screams as he clutches his head.
Ciel grabs the others’ hands over his head and tries to comfort the other through chuckling at his stupidity.
“Hehehe… You’re such an idiot!”
“Ciel!” Groaned Albert, “You’re one to talk!!!”
The two giggled as Albert finally added the song to the playlist.
“Al, if you want, you can add songs you like to the playlist too.” Said Ciel, looking deeply at the other, songs still playing in their earphones.
“Seriously? Yes! I can finally get you into bands I like. And, you know, you could also always tell me songs that you like, and I could get my band to play them…” Albert says sheepishly, his face becoming red at realising what he just said.
“Of course! I would love you guys to play some TV girl.” Replied Ciel, “You’re voice would sound really nice singing their songs. Though, some people might get the wrong idea since a lot of their songs are about love.”
Albert looked back at Ciel, trying to catch his sight before Ciel looked away and tried to ‘correct’ himself.
“U-Unless you do like someone… then that would work! You could even confess to them through the song! Like in movies! That would be so romantic…!” He frantically spurted out, His face starting to go red, too.
The two of them giggled awkwardly as they sipped their slushies.
“These slushies aren’t all that good.” Said Albert, this time being the one to break the deafening silence.
Ciel stammered before he replied. “Yeah, I think they changed the ingredients or something. What flavour did you end up getting? You stood at the machine for so long…”
“Strawberry.” replied Albert.
“That’s why it tastes bad… I got blueberry, the best flavour.”
“You say anything you remotely like is ‘the best’... how good could it really taste anyways?”
“You NEED to try it. It’s so good.”
Albert looked at Ciel, waiting for his to offer his drink, until both of them realised that Ciel had already finished his drink.
“Uhh, well that’s awkward…Hehe, I guess you’ll have to get one next time!”
When Ciel looked up, Albert had what could only be described as an almost evil smile on his face.
“Well, there is another way I could taste the flavour…”
Ciel raised an eyebrow, “What do you mean…?”
Before Ciel could process what was happening, Albert clasped his palm around his head and pulled him into a kiss.
Ciel was wide eyed, surprised, but didn’t pull away. Instead, Albert quickly pulled away and covered his mouth, sobering up to what he had just done.
“Oh I- I’m sorry that was-” Albert struggled to get his words out before Ciel pulled him into another, much more sloppy kiss, lasting a lot longer than the first.
The two boys pulled away to catch their breath, holding each other with bright red faces. Neither of them knew what to say, until Ciel chimed in:
“So… how… Did you like blueberry?”
Albert laughed heartily at the other’s embarrassed expression before answering.
“It was great. It really was. Maybe… maybe I’ll try it again sometime.”
The two got even redder as they laughed together, off in their own world.
“Maybe… Sunday?” Asked Ciel, grinning from ear to ear.
“Definitely.” Said Albert, grasping at Ciel’s hand as he looked off at the sunset just in front of them, Ciel instead staring at Albert, savouring the moment they were in and closing his eyes.
He almost fell asleep, when suddenly…
“Ah! That’s my alarm… and my cue to go home before my parents find out I had detention and then decided to skip… ”
Albert pulled Ciel up from the bench and pulled him into a warm, tight hug.
They stayed like that for a while, until Albert pulled away, pecked Ciel on the cheek and ran off, waving at Ciel as he disappeared into the distance.
Ciel sat back down, feeling his heart race inside his chest.
He pulled out his phone and took a picture of the sunset in front of him, and set it as the cover of the playlist.
As he got up from the bench to start going home, he realised his tongue must be…
He chuckled as he looked into his phone camera, his tongue was now purple. Surprisingly, it was the same purple as Albert’s eyes.
Guess I’ll tell my parents I had a grape slushie…
