Work Text:

Chapter One:Queen Scarlet’s Palace(night)[twenty-seven years earlier]

SCARLET stands in her bedroom, the wind blowing through the red curtains that matched her velvet dress.

VOICE:You look beautiful, Your Majesty.

She turns from her mirror to see a familiar dragon.

SCARLET:Flipside…The Duke.

FLIPSIDE walks over to her, holding something behind his back.

FLIPSIDE:I brought you something.

SCARLET:Is it the head of my husband?

The other SkyWing chuckles.

FLIPSIDE:No, that comes later.

SCARLET:Ugh. So what is it?

FLIPSIDE reveals what he’s holding, and it’s…a pomegranate.

SCARLET:Huh? What is this?

FLIPSIDE:A gift…just for you.

SCARLET:For me? But it’s…it’s just…a fruit .

FLIPSIDE:A special fruit. You said you wanted a kid that wasn’t Canyon’s. So I got a little help.

The queen looks at the fruit for a moment.

SCARLET:So…it’s enchanted, I’m guessing?

FLIPSIDE:Exactly.

The queen carefully picks up the pomegranate, examining it.

SCARLET:How do I know this isn’t some trick by one of my daughters?

FLIPSIDE:Too many of your daughters have already died trying to take you down. They’re all too scared to try anything now.

The pomegranate looks completely normal, seemingly just an ordinary fruit with nothing bizarre about it.

SCARLET:So do I just…eat it?

FLIPSIDE:It only takes one bite. So go ahead…take a bite of the forbidden fruit.

The other SkyWing slowly takes a bite, and FLIPSIDE grins in an almost malicious way.

SCARLET:I don’t…feel anything.

FLIPSIDE:Not yet. Give it a few days. Trust me, it’ll work.

The queen drops the pomegranate to the floor, and FLIPSIDE quickly moves closer.

SCARLET:What are you doing?

FLIPSIDE:Whatever for you, your highness.

The queen then places a hand on the side of his face.

SCARLET:Is that so?

They kiss, and through a crack in the door, an orange SkyWing in a spiked collar and a red velvet suit sees what happens next and quickly moves back.

SKYWING:Oh no…

He looks down at the rolled-up scroll in his hand.

SKYWING:What have I done?

Chapter Two:Downside’s Room(day)[present]

ARCTIC wakes up to the sound of soft purring, like a cat.

ARCTIC:Huh?

They realize the purring is coming from another dragon, lying close with an arm around them.

ARCTIC:Oh…it’s just you, Jackal.

The other IceWing’s ear flicks for a moment, the purring staying consistent.

ARCTIC:Of course it’s you.

They listen to the purring a bit more, burying their face in the fur on JACKAL’s neck.

ARCTIC:You’re like a big scaly kitten.

The other dragon’s purring starts to subside as he wakes up, raising his head to yawn.

JACKAL:Hey Arctic.

He smiles softly, then sits up on all fours to stretch like a cat.

JACKAL:You said something about “a big scaly kitten”?

ARCTIC laughs quietly, still a bit tired.

ARCTIC:Yeah, I did.

The other dragon leans his head down to get closer to them.

JACKAL:You really think I’m like that? After everything you’ve seen me do?

ARCTIC:Is there something else I should call you?

JACKAL:Yeah…something like…

He thinks for a moment, then looks a bit stumped.

JACKAL:I’m too tired to think of anything right now.

ARCTIC giggles, and JACKAL smiles again.

JACKAL:But not too tired to do this.

He gently kisses them, then slowly gets out of bed.

ARCTIC:What’s happening today?

JACKAL:The usual. Oh, and Winter’s coming over.

ARCTIC sits up, their arms crossed over their chest.

ARCTIC:Oh yeah, your cousin. He sounds nice.

JACKAL:Yeah, he might even work here.

The prince is a bit surprised by this sudden idea.

ARCTIC:Oh, really? Wow.

They start to get out of bed, and JACKAL moves closer to put his arms around them.

ARCTIC:Damn, you’re clingy.

They giggle, and the other IceWing nuzzles into their neck.

JACKAL:Maybe a little, but it’s all because I love you.

ARCTIC isn’t sure if those words are true or not.

ARCTIC:I…

JACKAL’s tail begins to sway, like it wants to wag like a dog’s, but he’s doing his best to keep it from doing so.

JACKAL:I still have no clue why you decided to stay with me.

That comment seems to snap ARCTIC out of their thoughts.

ARCTIC:Because you’re a great person, that’s why.

The other dragon laughs.

JACKAL:I don’t believe that.

ARCTIC:You don’t believe any of the good things I say about you.

JACKAL moves his head back up, and looks down at them.

JACKAL:I guess I’m just not used to hearing ones that are genuine.

He rests his head on top of ARCTIC’s, and the prince thinks about that statement.

ARCTIC:Neither am I.

Chapter Three:The Ice Kingdom(day)[fourteen years earlier]

A group of IceWings are eating a large polar bear together, while a few dragonets are playing nearby.

DRAGONET 1:Stop dodging! You can’t just dodge constantly!

The other IceWing dragonet keeps rolling in the snow when she tries to jump at him.

DRAGONET 2:What do you mean? You don’t get to make the rules!

He rolls out of the way again, and the other shrieks with anger.

DRAGONET 1:THAT’S NOT FAIR!

One of the adult dragons eating looks over with a disappointed expression.

ICEWING 1:Icicle, stop yelling. And Hailstorm, just go easy on her. She’s still learning.

HAILSTORM:It’s not my fault she needs everything to work in her favor.

ICICLE tosses some snow in his face, and another IceWing dragonet, around 17 years old, watches from about ten feet away and rolls his eyes.

DRAGONET 3:Thank god she’s not my sister.

A fourth dragonet, about 6, bounces over to him which sends some snow flying onto his clothes.

DRAGONET 4:Can we go hunting now? You said you’d teach how to catch a bird.

DRAGONET 3:Yeah, just like the one you’ve got there.

He points at the plush hawk in the other’s hands.

DRAGONET 4:Yeah! Let’s get a hawk!

The two brush snow off their clothes, the 17-year-old in a light-beige sweater and black pants, and the 6-year-old in a dark-blue long-sleeve shirt and matching jeans.

DRAGONET 3:So, Winter, you ready?

The other nods.

WINTER:Yeah! Come on Jackal, let’s go!

Both dragonets run off, then fly up into the air, WINTER seeming to move in the air a bit awkwardly.

JACKAL:Not too bad. Who taught you to fly?

WINTER:My brother.

JACKAL:Well he did a pretty good job.

WINTER manages to fly a bit more balanced, although JACKAL makes sure they aren’t too high off the ground in case the younger dragonet falls.

WINTER:Where are the hawks?

He looks around, but doesn’t see any birds nearby.

JACKAL:Give it some time. Maybe use yours to attract them.

WINTER holds up his stuffed hawk with one arm, as high as he could, hoping it would get the attention of a bird.

WINTER:Nothings coming.

JACKAL:Give it time.

After some time, WINTER finally caught eye of something in the air.

WINTER:A hawk! A hawk! Look!

Both dragonets watched as a hawk landed nearby to eat a small white rabbit.

JACKAL:And there’s a rabbit too! Looks like you’re getting two dinners!

The other giggles, and they both land to stay hidden from the bird in the snow.

JACKAL:Just creep up slowly, and when you think you’re close enough, jump.

WINTER nods and carries the stuffed animal in his mouth, so he could use his talons to kill the bird.

JACKAL:Don’t be afraid…it won’t fight back.

WINTER stalks closer, then, when the bird had just notices he's there, he lunges and catches it in his hands.

JACKAL:HOLY CRAP YOU GOT IT!

The other drops the stuffed animal from his mouth to bite the bird and then lets out an excited shriek.

WINTER:I caught it! I caught it! I caught the hawk!

JACKAL runs over, and picks up both the hawk and the rabbit.

JACKAL:Good thing you got it after it killed the rabbit. Rabbits are a pain to chase down. Saved you the trouble.

WINTER picks up his stuffed animal again, clapping his hands with joy.

WINTER:I can’t believe I caught it!

JACKAL:Neither can I.

There’s suddenly an older, much less enthusiastic voice nearby.

VOICE:WHAT ARE YOU DOING OUT HERE?

Both dragonets look over to see WINTER’s father, NARWHAL, and JACKAL’s father, ELK, a few feet away.

JACKAL:We…we were just-

NARWHAL:I’M NOT ASKING YOU!

JACKAL winced, and ELK put a hand on NARWHAL’s shoulder.

ELK:Calm down, I’m sure they didn’t do anything wrong.

NARWHAL glared at JACKAL, then at WINTER.

NARWHAL:Why are you out here?

WINTER was still a bit shaken by his father’s previous tone.

WINTER:We-...we were just hunting.

He clutches his stuffed bird, trying not to cry.

ELK:See? They weren’t doing anything.

NARWHAL looks back at JACKAL.

NARWHAL:But I still don’t like having him around.

JACKAL:But I didn’t-

NARWHAL:Was I talking to you?

The dragonet looks down.

JACKAL:No…

NARWHAL:Exactly. So shut it .

WINTER moves over to JACKAL, and holds his hand.

ELK:Narwhal-

NARWHAL:Seal said-

ELK:Seal said a lot of things. And we both know that almost nothing she said was true.

The other IceWing goes quiet for a moment.

NARWHAL:Well I’d still feel a little better if this was your other son.

ELK narrows his eyes a bit, and NARWHAL grabs WINTER, which forces him to let go of JACKAL.

ELK:Like Lynx will ever come back now.

NARWHAL walks off with WINTER, and the memory ends, JACKAL now standing on his hotel room balcony with WINTER.

JACKAL:So…what’s it been like? How are your siblings?

WINTER looks down at the snow below.

WINTER:Hailstorm died in the IceWing plague.

JACKAL is surprised to hear this, and sees the look of sorrow on his face.

WINTER:And Icicle is still in a mental hospital.

He sighs.

WINTER:She’s completely lost herself. It feels like she’s dead too. I haven’t spoken to her since she was taken.

JACKAL:I’m…so sorry.

He looks down as well.

JACKAL:Well…I know how it feels to have a sibling…leave you.

WINTER looks at him.

WINTER:Lynx?

JACKAL:Yeah. He was the one thing that really made me feel safe. He always had my back. But he moved in with his girlfriend once our parents divorced. He thought that now that our mom was out of the picture, I would be okay to live with my dad. That we would still be happy without him. And safe without Seal.

He sighs, now thinking about his mother.

JACKAL:That woman…god that woman. I always hated her.

WINTER seems a bit surprised, which his cousin notices.

JACKAL:Yeah, I genuinely hated her. And she hated me. She hated me because I wasn’t like Lynx. Lynx was nothing like my dad. She was always obsessed with “fixing” my dad and I. Her sisters would say there was something wrong with us. I…I…I could’ve been happier, if she…if she hadn’t f***ed up my entire life.

WINTER notices a change of tone in his voice.

WINTER:What…what did she do, if you don’t mind me asking?

JACKAL:She kept people away. She didn’t care if Lynx got a girlfriend, but when I did, she said there was something wrong with her. That she was taking this “weird medication” and “couldn’t be trusted”. But…but…she needed those pills. She said she didn’t feel like herself without them. But this only made Seal hate her more. And then the next time I dated, it was a guy , and Seal f***ing flipped . My dad tried to defend me, and…she threatened him. So that’s how that relationship ended. I wish I hadn’t been such a damn coward. I wish I hadn’t done everything she told me.

WINTER moves closer to put a hand on his shoulder.

WINTER:I know I had some messed-up parents but…they never did anything like that.

JACKAL:You’re lucky. I had to put up with that b**** for seventeen years. Seventeen , F***ING YEARS . I hated her, so f***ing much , I…I’ve always felt so bad for my dad.

He takes off his glasses to rest his face in his hand.

JACKAL:He didn’t want us. He didn’t want Lynx and I. He wanted a life of his own but Seal took that away , and made him something he’s not .

He can feel himself getting a bit choked up.

JACKAL:I just wanted Lynx to do something about it. He was the only one Seal ever cared to listen to.

His voice gets quieter, and sounds almost strained.

JACKAL:And now he doesn’t want to see me anymore. I haven’t seen him since we both graduated.

WINTER hugs him, understanding his feelings of loneliness.

Chapter Four:The Sky Kingdom(night)

Not far from the palace, RUBY and another SkyWing, SOAR, land on a large cliff over a forest.

RUBY:WHERE ARE YOU?

She seems to be calling out to someone.

SOAR:Maybe I was wrong. Maybe this is a mistake. We…we shouldn’t be here.

He nervously adjusts his spiked collar, clutching a scroll in his hand.

RUBY:You told me I could meet him, so I will . I want to know who he is .

Suddenly, the trees below the cliff ignite into flames, illuminating FLIPSIDE standing near the edge of the cliff.

FLIPSIDE:So you told her.

The other SkyWings look over, and SOAR seems even more nervous than before.

SOAR:Not…not everything.

The queen looks at both of them, confused.

RUBY:What do you mean? What’s going on? Who are you?

FLIPSIDE looks at RUBY, seeming to study her, before answering.

FLIPSIDE:I’ve been wondering the same thing about you.

He takes a few steps forward.

FLIPSIDE:I know who you are. Who you really are. But you have no idea how much it pains me to not see it.

RUBY glances back at SOAR.

RUBY:Is this…is this about Tourmaline?

FLIPSIDE: Yes

The queen looks back at him.

RUBY:What do you want with me? What does my old self have to do with you?

FLIPSIDE:Because I know why you’re this way!

There’s a short moment of silence between all three of them.

FLIPSIDE:I…I didn’t want it to happen, but…Scarlet…I…I might as well start from the beginning.

SOAR begins to look very worried, as if he’s afraid of what the queen is about to hear.

FLIPSIDE:I’m…a Demi-God. You probably already thought that. I’m part of “The Children of The Dark Goddess”.

RUBY recognizes that name.

RUBY:Avalanche…the NightWing.

FLIPSIDE:Yeah, her. She brought me into this world, and my siblings, so we could gather more followers for her. She told us not to get too attached to mortals. But…but I wanted to take it a step further. I wanted to do something that would prove that I didn’t care what she said. So…I fought in the arena for a few years, got the attention of Scarlet, and fast forward a few years, she says she hates her husband and wishes she could have an heir that wasn’t his.

SOAR is starting to slink back a bit, hoping the queen won’t notice him anymore.

FLIPSIDE:So your assistant over there helped me out.

RUBY looks back at SOAR, and he freezes.

SOAR:I…I didn’t realize my mistake until…it was too late.

FLIPSIDE:Oh please, you got a place in a palace. What more do you want?

SOAR:TO TELL HER EVERYTHING YOU MANIAC!

The Demi-God glares at him, then continues talking to RUBY.

FLIPSIDE:It was a fruit. A pomegranate. Enchanted to give dragons who couldn’t have hatchlings…well, hatchlings.

RUBY:What…what are you saying?

There’s a chill that runs down SOAR’s spine, as he braces himself for the worst.

FLIPSIDE:I’m saying I’m your father.

The queen goes silent, feeling like her whole world has been turned upside down.

RUBY:Wh-...what? But…but I look… nothing like you.

FLIPSIDE:That’s my point . If Scarlet had kept you the same, if she hadn’t made Chameleon enchant that earring, there would still be proof of my existence in your life.

SOAR winces at the sound of his other name, and RUBY looks down at her hands for a moment.

RUBY:So…why though? Why did Scarlet change me?

Her father sighs.

FLIPSIDE:Because you looked too much like me. Sure she wanted a kid that wasn’t Canyon’s, but she only wanted a few people to know that fact. So…she got rid of Tourmaline…and created you

RUBY is still unsure what to think of all of this.

RUBY:So…is that why you’re here? To see Tourmaline again?

FLIPSIDE:Pretty much, yeah.

The queen took a deep breath.

RUBY:Well, that’s not going to happen.

The Demi-God chuckles.

FLIPSIDE:That’s what I thought you’d say.

He snaps his fingers, and a light-sand-coloured SandWing with a blonde sail, in a white nightgown, appears a few feet away from RUBY.

SANDWING:What? Where am I?

SOAR:Who the f*** are you?

The SandWing seems a bit offended.

SANDWING:I’m Princess Fennec, cousin of Queen Burn. Now someone tell me why I’m-

She finally notices FLIPSIDE.

FENNEC:Ugh. What do you want?

FLIPSIDE:Help me convince my kid to get rid of her messed up earring.

RUBY: What ?

FENNEC:WHAT? I DIDN’T EVEN KNOW YOU HAD A DAMN KID!

SOAR: Oh s*** .

He starts to walk back, but RUBY’s attention is now on the SandWing.

RUBY:How do you even know him?

FENNEC:I’m a pact member. Somehow I was stupid enough to sell my soul to him.

RUBY looks horrified, then looks at her father.

FLIPSIDE:Oh please, I would never try to own your soul.

RUBY is too shaken by all of this to respond, so FENNEC starts to talk more to the Demi-God.

FENNEC:Let’s just get out of here. Send me back to the desert. NOW.

FLIPSIDE:No, we’re not finished. I’m not done yet. I brought you here to help me, and this is what you do?

The princess goes quiet.

FLIPSIDE:I…I just want my daughter back. But I guess that’s not going to happen. And I’ve already cut ties with Scarlet, so now I’m just wondering what’s going to happen to Tourmaline.

He takes a few steps back, and FENNEC’s eyes widen.

FLIPSIDE:So I guess I’ll just…hope for the best.

He doesn’t notice how close he is to the edge, the others do, but he falls before they can say anything.

FENNEC:FLIPSIDE!

She pushes RUBY out of the way to run to him, jumping off the edge to catch him.

SOAR:Oh no…

FENNEC manages to catch FLIPSIDE in her arms, looking down at the flames in horror as they roar around her.

SOAR:Another disaster, yet again.

The SandWing carries FLIPSIDE back up to the cliff, gently placing him on the ground, now seeing the consequences of his actions.

FENNEC:Oh god…Flipside…what have you done?

The scales on the right side of his face and neck, his hands and feet, the end of his tail, and his wings, are horrifically burned.

FENNEC:Oh my god…what have you done ?

RUBY slowly approaches, but SOAR stays behind.

RUBY:Is he…is he still…

FENNEC:He’s breathing.

RUBY snaps out of her horrified daze, quickly becoming serious.

RUBY:I’ll take him to a healer.

She looks back at SOAR.

RUBY:SOAR! GET OVER HERE! HELP ME!

The other SkyWing quickly runs over, finally getting to see more detail.

SOAR:Oh, oh no…oh no this is bad.

RUBY:Help me move him. We’re taking him to the healers.

SOAR froze up again.

RUBY:HELP ME!

SOAR flinches, moving again.

SOAR:Okay, okay!

Both SkyWings pick up his body, but before leaving, the queen looks at the princess.

RUBY:Maybe it’s best if you follow us. There’s no way you can travel back to the desert in just that.

She gestures to the nightgown, and FENNEC nods.

FENNEC:Yeah, I guess you’re right.

The three dragons fly away, RUBY and SOAR carrying FLIPSIDE, while FENNEC follows behind.

Chapter Five:Jade Mountain Academy(day)[fourteen years earlier]

JACKAL walks through the halls of the boarding school, the stone walls and floor bringing a familiar cold feeling to the IceWing.

JACKAL:Lynx? Lynx?

He calls out to his twin brother, and walks past a few students to find his brother standing by the entrance of the school.

JACKAL:Lynx…?

The massive wooden doors are open, the cave opening showing the beautiful forest landscape below.

JACKAL:Where…are you going?

He notices the suitcase next to him, and his brother finally turns to look at him.

LYNX:I’m leaving.

His brother blinks in confusion.

JACKAL:What?

LYNX:We graduated. I’m leaving, and I suggest you do the same. We don’t have to stay here anymore.

JACKAL still seems pretty confused.

JACKAL:Where are you going?

LYNX:My girlfriend’s place. I’m gonna start a life of my own.

JACKAL:But…but I thought-

LYNX:Jackal, I…I know you care a lot about me, and that we’ve had our backs since we hatched but…this is a new chapter. A new era of our lives. You can head back to dad if you want. Mom’s not there anymore.

JACKAL:But, Lynx, you…you can’t just-

LYNX: Jackal . I’m going . You’ll be fine.

His brother still can't believe what was happening.

LYNX:Think of it as a late birthday gift.

He then begins to fly away, and JACKAL tries to chase after him, but nearby students who have been watching their conversation stop him.

JACKAL:Get out of the way! I need to get to my brother!

He tries to push them away, but two manage to hold him back.

JACKAL:LYNX!

He holds his hand out, trying to hold onto something that’s already flying away.

JACKAL:LYNX! DON’T LEAVE ME!

JACKAL’s memory disappears, as he stands outside the casino, with WINTER not too far away.

JACKAL:May know what it’s like when someone is taken from you, but it’s a whole different kind of pain when they willingly leave you

Through the headphones around WINTER’s neck, JACKAL hears “Seventeen” by MARINA, which he can tell is intentional.

He sees what looks like his mother, towering over WINTER as if it’s some twisted god looking down on one of its subjects.

He then looks back at WINTER, with a look of pain in his eyes as the bridge and chorus plays.

He sees WINTER as a small child again, and himself as a teenager, while a vision of LYNX and SEAL stand nearby, going their separate ways.

The vision of SEAL then stands behind him, and he turns to face her, as if trying to protect WINTER from her.

He continues speaking defiantly, trying to keep SEAL away, while also calling her out.

He points to a vision of ELK, looking empty, a dragon in true despair.

The vision of SEAL moves to stand between him and WINTER.

JACKAL continues to glare at her, his words doing their best to cut through her, even if it isn't really her.

SEAL vanishes, so he can see WINTER clearly again.

The other IceWing sings the backing vocals, trying to empathize with him.

JACKAL walks over to him and puts his hands on his shoulders, the two going back to looking like their present selves.

His voice sounds pained, as he still feels like SEAL’s gaze is watching him.

The music stops.

The two stand there, now quiet, a cold breeze blowing past, a single hawk flying and watching above like an unaware bystander.

Chapter Six:Queen Ruby’s Palace(day)

FLIPSIDE, his face, neck, wings, tail, arms, and legs bandaged, paces through the empty throne room in a limping manner.

VOICE:Look what you’ve done.

FLIPSIDE stops, and looks over at where that sound had come from, recognizing the voice.

FLIPSIDE:Mindwalker.

The other dragon steps out of what seemed like the wall, dressed in ripped jeans, a black hoodie, and a hat similar to the Demi-God.

MINDWALKER:Look at what you’ve become.

It’s hard to tell what species they are, as their scales are orange-and-green, but they look like a four-winged LeafWing with two tails, two pairs of eyes, and a leaf-shaped frill.

FLIPSIDE:As if you’re any better. You helped me, and don’t you ever forget it.

The other dragon thinks for a moment, continuing to look at the Demi-God’s bandages.

MINDWALKER:And? I didn’t even get anything in return. I kept an eye on the queen, and you never paid me back.

FLIPSIDE:I gave you the satisfaction of saying “I told you so”. Isn’t that enough? Isn’t that what you’ve always wanted? Avalanche made you the oldest for a reason.

MINDWALKER tilted their head slightly, their amber-eyed gaze becoming more gentle.

MINDWALKER:By only a few hours. It doesn’t make much of a difference.

FLIPSIDE:Then why do you act like it does?

The other Demi-God takes a few steps closer.

MINDWALKER:Oh…little brother…or sister…or sibling…whatever you want.

FLIPSIDE:Brother…at the moment.

MINDWALKER walks over to him, then gently holds the bandaged side of his face.

MINDWALKER:Dreamcatcher’s been worried about you.

FLIPSIDE:What about Datura?

MINDWALKER:Datura…I’m sure she’d want to see you.

They look at the bandages more.

MINDWALKER:You poor thing…although I had a feeling it would come to this…it’s still…it hurts a bit just to look at you.

FLIPSIDE looks down at his hands, then starts to remove one of the bandages, the burned flesh becoming more clear to see.

FLIPSIDE:Then why do you still watch?

He removes the bandages over his entire left hand, the orange scales now a deep red, the talons charred black.

FLIPSIDE:Is this what you had in mind, when you imagined my consequences? My fall from grace, as mother would put it?

MINDWALKER lowers his arm.

MINDWALKER:You did not fall from grace, Flipside. If you had, that would mean you had any grace to fall from at all. You are not an angel, you are the product of godly hunger.

FLIPSIDE:So are you.

MINDWALKER narrows their eyes, and then vanishes, FLIPSIDE slowly waking up in one of the palace bedrooms, still bandaged.

VOICE:Flipside?

The SkyWing, in too much pain to fully move, tilts his head the best he can to see FENNEC, in a blue t-shirt and jeans.

FENNEC:Ruby gave me some old clothes.

All the other dragon can do is let out a tired groan.

FENNEC:I…I still can’t think of a reason why I…I mean, it was the right thing to do. But, maybe it’s just because…

FLIPSIDE lets out an exhausted grunt.

FLIPSIDE:Just because I own you doesn’t mean you can’t be a good person.

His vision is a bit blurry, and his breathing is heavy.

FLIPSIDE:I’m not even trying to hurt you at all. I just…I need some help.

FENNEC slowly approaches, then stands by the bed and looks down with pity.

FENNEC:I need you to tell me why I’m one of them. Why was I chosen?

The SkyWing lets out a tired, dry chuckle.

FLIPSIDE:I…you think I’d ever tell you?

The SandWing becomes a bit angry.

FENNEC:What do you mean? Why can’t you tell me? Why won’t you!?

The other dragon closed his eyes, and FENNEC placed a hand on his chest.

FENNEC:I just want to get my half of the deal done.

FLIPSIDE:But you’ll try to hurt me if I do.

The SandWing moves her hand away.

FENNEC:I just want what’s mine.

There’s a sound from nearby, and in the doorway, is SOAR.

SOAR:So do I.

He looks at the princess, then at the Demi-God, and slowly leaves, looking down at his scroll with teary eyes.
