“Say, Izumi. Weren’t you glad that Aoi died?”
A cool, calculating voice stopped Yuki cold. An Awakened Tojo was a surprise enough, but the topic she had brought up was beyond the pale.
“What.”
Glad? About someone else’s death? Did Satomi’s death and the constant threat of Karrie’s attacks finally break the girl’s brain?
“Would be quite a convenient explanation, wouldn’t it?” Tojo smirked at the bespectacled girl’s surprise. “You’ve spent too much time with our great squad leader, Izumi. Your lips were moving along with your thoughts.”
“That girl will be the death of me.” Yuki sighed and pushed up her glasses. Keeping up with Ruka’s shenanigans left her vulnerable to people who could string two coherent thoughts together at a time. It was time to switch gears. “Care to explain what you mean?”
Tojo took a second to process her response, her thin eyebrow shooting up.
“Interesting. Have you simply avoided thinking about it, I wonder?” The blonde’s icy blue eyes sparkled with cold malice. “Can you afford to waste time, Izumi? Ruka may be loyal to you, but there’s no lack of interest in her.”
Yuki’s eyes narrowed, taking in the intelligence agent in front of her. There must have been a purpose to such an open provocation, but she couldn’t find it.
“As I said, why would I be glad that Aoi died?”
“Charlotte’s interest is self-evident.” Tojo ignored the question. “Hanamura and Ohshima are both attracted to Ruka’s looks. Asakura might decide that she doesn’t need to worry about being a homewrecker.”
“What the hell are you talking about?” Yuki had had enough. The blonde was enough of a headache as her incompetent self, but the uncaring agent in front of her was somehow even worse for her psyche.
“Matchmaking.” Tojo answered simply, adding a careless shrug as if that explained everything.
That explained nothing.
Yuki’s mouth opened, closed, and hung open again. How did that statement connect with that outrageous opening question? What kind of mental acrobatics did she need to engage in to get even an inkling of understanding?
“Poor Ruka. This denial of yours is rather impressive.” The infuriating blonde took a look at the time on her mePad. “Well, I’ve tried. This doesn’t quite balance the scales as well as I hoped, so let’s continue this conversation at a later date.”
As soon as the words left her lips, Tojo hissed in pain and stumbled forward, and Yuki rushed to help her up. Yuki was still clueless at what the agent meant, but the hacker was more concerned with what she said last.
“Wait, she wants to do this again?”
