Work Text:

The first time Spencer saw you, he knew he was smitten. (And when I say smitten, I mean 𝘴𝘮𝘪𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘯.) He met you for the first time at JJ’s wedding because you were friends with her, but that’s where his dilemma began.

You were also Morgan’s younger sister. But good lord, you were everything he wanted in a girl. You were smart, pretty, able to handle yourself, kind, and to put it into words, a goddess in his eyes.

Of course, he’d never admit to anyone that he had a crush on his teammate's little sister; he wasn’t crazy (though he often felt that way around you). After a while, he managed to push those feelings aside and focus on his life.

That was until tonight. Rossi had hosted one of his meal celebrations—honestly, he just wanted to prove to Hotch that he had some of the best red wine. Everyone on the team was invited, along with close family and friends. Since you were friends with JJ and Morgan’s sister, you attended as well.

When he saw you walk into the house, he almost stopped functioning; he froze. Morgan seemed to notice and shot Spencer a sharp glare. He then approached Spencer, clearing his throat and making sure to speak quietly enough so you didn't hear, yet loudly enough to get his point across.

“She’s off-limits, Reid.” He spoke with an underlying tone of 'Stay away from my sister.'

"You think I don’t know that?” Reid shot back, not taking his eyes off you.

Morgan chuckled and gave Spencer a nudge on the shoulder, causing him to stumble a bit.

“Just making sure,” he replied, walking away to the other side of the house to go chat it up with Hotch and Rossi.

Spencer couldn’t take his eyes off of you. He just, he wasn’t sure what to do. He’d never felt this way about anyone before. Sure, there were crushes and hookups, but you weren’t just that to him. God, he barely knew you, and yet he could see himself getting married to you, having a family with you. The idea of you being with anybody else made his stomach churn.

He just needed to talk to you. At least one conversation couldn't hurt, right?

Slowly making his way over to you, he felt a bit clammy, but he tried to keep his cool, he didn’t want to mess this up or make a fool of himself.

Approaching you, he cleared his throat loudly before he spoke up

"Uhm hey, (y/n)." hhis voice was a little shaky, why was he feeling so nervous just speaking to you?

You on the other hand, being three drinks in already, felt on top of the world, so when Spencer came up and talked to you responded without hesitation.

“Hey you” you say as you stumble slightly almost spilling your drink a top your shirt.

“Careful” he spoke out with a slight chuckle, and you smiled at him, God that smile.

He stood there, his heart fluttering a little from your smile, he’d already be lying if he said the small stumble didn’t make you more adorable to him. He noticed your cheeks had gotten a bit of a reddish tint to them, this gave him a small bit of confidence, he could do this, he could flirt with you.

“Are you okay? you aren’t too drunk..right?” he said, a teasing tone in his voice.

You scoffed and put a hand over your chest pretending to be offended.

“Wow, Dr. Reid how dare you think so low of me?” you say in a sarcastic tone, just so he knows you won’t get mad over some stupid little joke, it’s just a bit of teasing.

A smirk appeared on his face, his hands stuffed in his pocket and his eyes never leaving yours, God he was so head over heels it was pathetic.

“Well, you seem a little bit off balance, and your face is a little redder than it was earlier. I’m not a genius for nothing” he expressed, his smirk growing a little wider.

“I’m perfectly fine, Spencer, thanks for the concern though.” you reassured him, placing your hand on his shoulder.

His heart beat quickened a little once he felt your hand on his shoulder, it was probably nothing to you, just a friendly touch. Hell any normal person would see it as that, but to him it was so much more.

He could feel his heart beating loudly. He hoped you couldn’t hear it, he was sure if you could you’d think he was insane.

“Just making sure you’re okay.” his voice came out softer than he intended it to.

You chuckled before retracting your hand from his shoulder, letting your fingers trail down the side of his arm before speaking again.

“I’m good, trust me.” you restated, looking into his eyes with a smile.

He tried to remain calm as he felt your hand trail down his arm, but god was it hard. He wanted to reach out and pull you closer, just hold you in his arms like you were already his.

He tried to keep his cool, his heart was beating so fast, but your smile made it 101x harder to remain calm.

“Whatever you say” he replied, his voice still soft, yet there was still a slight hint of concern within his voice.

As if things weren’t awkward enough already, Morgan, just had to make it more awkward—

He walked over to where you two were standing, creeping up behind you, he cleared his throat to make his presence known.

“You two look cozy” he smirked as he looked at Spencer, he knew Spencer had a crush on you, he knew how Spencer felt when you showed up, so he thought it would be fun to just make it a little more difficult for him.

“Better not be getting handsy with my sister, Reid.” he stated, glaring at Spencer.

“Derek.” you interrupted, before shooting him a sharp stare

Spencer’s cheeks went flushed, he tried to keep his cool, he really did. He knew what Morgan was trying to do, and god the bastard was good at it.

He could already feel himself becoming flustered. He felt stupid, he was a damn genius, but you made feel so damn incompetent. You were like a drug he was becoming damn near addicted to.

“I wasn’t getting handsy with anyone!” Spencer said, trying to defend himself.

“I just came to make sure your sister was okay.” He continued, toying around with his fingers in his pocket.

“Which, I am!”

“I’ll leave you and pretty boy here alone, don’t do anything I would do.”

“Don’t you mean wouldn’t do?” Asked Spencer.

“No, I mean 𝘸𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 do”
