Work Text:
Shinichi gasped as he sat up in bed, sweat dripping from his face, his head pounding. He clutched his chest, just above his scar. He could tell Migi was still asleep from the control of his hand. He took a deep breath, his eyes closing.
“Was it.. was it all a dream?..” he mumbled to himself.
He rubbed his head before looking out his window, a soft frown on his lips. He had a dream about Kana, but, she was safe right? At least, he wanted it to be a dream. He picked up his phone to text her before he stopped suddenly, was it all a dream?
“Shit..” He shook his head before a sudden chill raced down his spine. He clenched his jaw before quickly getting out of bed and running down the stairs in his shorts and shirt. He slipped his shoes on, stumbling out the door and head-on into a sprint. He knew where to go. He knew it wasn’t a dream, but he had to make sure. He stumbled into the abandoned building and dropped to his knees, he saw it, the cracked wall where the parasite who killed Kana died. It all flooded back to him, being a second too late, seeing the parasite piercing her heart. The feeling in his hand when he…
“Shinichi..”
“Gah!? M-Migi!”
“Go home Shinichi.. get some rest.”
“Easy for you to say! Y-You! You’re just a parasite! Uncaring like the rest of them!”
“You need sleep Shinichi. Go home.” Migi said again. “Your body is suffering an.. imbalance. I will wake you up when it is fixed.”
“She died.. because of me..”
“….” Migi was silent before sighing, his eye approaching Shinichi’s face. “She was killed by my kind, looking for you even though you specifically told her not to. She died purely because she was stupid.”
“Shut up.. you don’t have the right to-!”
“Shinichi.” Migi warned, a blade now against his cheek. “Calm down, you’ll attract others to us.”
“I.. I know.. I’m sorry..” He whispered, tears slipping down his cheeks.
“Grieve if you must, that’s what you humans call this imbalance right? Grief?”
“Yes, Migi..” Shinichi mumbled. “Kana, wherever you.. wherever you are now.. I’m sorry.. and I should have told you everything, I’m sorry I couldn’t save you.” He said out loud into the eery building. “And.. I’m sorry I didn’t love you as you loved me..” he whispered before he slowly stood up and wiped his eyes with his arms. “Migi, don’t let me oversleep.”
“No promises, if your body needs it, it’s in my best interest-”
“I know, I know.” He chuckled softly. “Let’s go home..”
