Work Text:
Reggie slumped onto the wooden chair, crossing off another entry from the list of possible summons. Apparently, summoning dryads only yielded a measly twig. His purple robes sagged as did him, complementary to this excursion dragging out into the night far longer than it should have. Plates were stacked to his left from the hours gone by. To his right was that list: the names of every possible summon in the old encyclopedia, with over a dozen crossed out. In front of him was the book itself, yellow-hued pages opened to the dryad summon.
He ran his hands through his fluffed white hair, getting it more frazzled with each round of failure. He kept on scouring the old encyclopedia for anything else to work with. The thought still harrowed him: what if there was just nothing he could work with? Was this all for nothing? All those months wasted, simply like that?
The bolt of lightning briefly shook him from his late-night study, jolting him upright in an instant. The flash was short-lived before the room returned to darkness, the only other lights being the roughly dozen lit candles scattered about the room. The storm outside had been raging for the last several hours, the worst Brightroot had ever seen in ages, and it never looked like it was going away anytime soon. The first half-an-hour was okay to work with, but once the winds started picking up, the campus had to be put on high alert until the storm calmed down. It didn’t take long before a fully-fledged stay-in-place order had to be given out because of how strong the winds were.
That’s where the three of them were. Jasper ended up becoming their impromptu roommate until this all blew over. Not that Reggie minded. He felt sorry for the guy, having been put in a situation like this not even a week after arriving here.
On the other hand, he felt for him in...other ways.
That initial conversation he and Evelyn had with Jasper kept playing in his mind over and over again. The gray rat was cute, no doubt about it, but why was he the thing that Reggie was so fixated on? There was just something about him. The touch, but that couldn’t be that; they’d never even so much as shook hands. The smell, maybe, or possibly just his appearance in general. If anything, seeing those wide amethyst eyes on someone who hiked all the way here made Jasper even cuter. The taste...maybe?
Reggie had to pull himself away from that last possibility. He barely knew him for less than a week. Jasper needed time to breathe. He focused back on the book, thumbing through the old pages with even older texts.
“Hey, uh, Reggie?” He didn’t even need to look to figure out who it was. He turned in that direction; sure enough, there was Jasper, standing by the drapes separating his room.
“Hmm?”
“Is there another bed or a room somewhere? Evelyn doesn’t want me in her room.”
Reggie sighed. “Yeah, I figured that. She says it helps her with her dreams.”
“Isn’t her dream to become a dragon?”
“Well, a kobold can dream, I guess. But, no. It’s just my room and hers. You’re welcome to sleep here if you like.”
“Oh, thanks.” Jasper walked through the room, still wearing the same shirt, pants, and backpack from when he first arrived, no less scuffed than they already were.
“Didn’t you have your own robes?”
“You mean the ones back out—” A strike of lightning, hitting much closer this time, cut off his words. His tail shot up at the sudden boom.
Reggie nodded. “I get it.”
Jasper laid the bedroll down, propping the backpack as a makeshift headrest. He looked back to Reggie, still immersed in the tome. “So, are you going to bed soon?”
“I’ll be there in a moment. I’m close. I know it.”
“Well, try not to exhaust yourself. Again.” The last word was spoken matter-of-factly, as if it was bound to happen not too later. “I’m sure Grandpa Archie didn’t learn his summoning magic in a day.”
“Well…” Reggie thoughts trailed off to his grand-uncle: he had more years in summoning magic alone than Reggie was alive. He sighed in defeat. “Alright, I guess you’re right.”
He closed the book and got up to stretch. He made his way to the bed, shedding his robes for a sleeveless tunic and leggings. He crawled in, ready to ride the night out...except for that nagging feeling in the back of his head: the same feeling he suppressed just moments before. Jasper was lying down by Reggie’s own bed. Could he? Would he? He tried pushing the thoughts out again, but the thoughts kept reasserting themselves no different than a dragon standing guard over a hoard of gold.
He had to say something; he couldn’t just have the cutest boy he’s seen in his time at Brightroot sleeping beside him and not talk to him. Reggie rolled across the bed, peering over the edge. “You know, you can always sleep in the bed if you’d like.”
“It’s fine,” Jasper said, “It’s probably cramped up there anyway.”
“Actually, it’s big enough for two people.” Jasper stood up to see the comparison: Reggie barely took half the space on the bed. “So, what do you think?”
Jasper paused, thinking about the offer. “Thanks, I guess.”
Reggie moved to the other side as Jasper got under the covers, the two of them nestling against each other. The fabric of Jasper’s shirt against Reggie’s pale fur elicited a soft moan, barely audible against the torrential downpour outside. Back-to-front against each other, the rat’s mind raced with a dozen thoughts going on at once. Most of them weren’t even about his almost innate desire to bone him. They were about Jasper, true, but in every other non-sexual way. The downy fur, the warmth of another person — another species — like him, the soft rounded face with those shining purple eyes; whatever this force was pulling him towards Jasper, it was working its absolute hardest right now.
“So, Jasper.”
“Yeah?”
“You said those dark spirits of yours only come out at night, right?”
“They only come in my dreams. Usually, anyway. You don’t have to worry about them.”
Reggie turned around, facing Jasper, locking eyes with him. “You know,” he continued, a coy smile faintly visible underneath the dim candlelight, “I’m the kind of person that people like to see in their dreams.”
“From what I’ve heard, it sounds like it. I heard you and Jamie had a thing earlier.”
“We did. But there’s one difference: I only did it with him because I needed a break.” Reggie stated, inching forward until their snouts were just barely a finger away from each other. “This...is because I like you.”
Another flash of lightning heralded the sudden kiss. Jasper’s eyes shot open. At first, he couldn’t figure out what emotion to go with. Confusion? Surprise? Whatever “unwanted attention” fell under? After a moment, he realized what to go with: embrace. He wrapped his arms around Reggie, the best they could when lying on their sides.
Reggie pulled back, but rather than the usual round of flirtation, he turned away from Jasper, his ears drooping down. “I-I’m sorry,” he began, “I got myself all worked up.”
“Look, I’m just as confused as you are, but you don’t need to be sorry. That was...honestly incredible.”
The compliment perked his ears up. “Really?” Reggie asked.
“Yeah. I’ve never been kissed by anyone before, but that…” Jasper gestured around; he tried to find the words, but failed. “I don’t even know what to call it.”
“Exciting?” Reggie suggested, leaning in a bit closer. His flirtatious smile came back with a determined vengeance. “Enticing, maybe?”
There was a pause; it took Jasper a moment to realize what this was building to. “Are you saying we should-?”
Reggie nodded. “Yep.”
“Right here? Right now?”
He nodded again. “Yep.”
Another pause. Jasper went through multiple feelings again, starting with confusion, running with indecisiveness for a moment, and then settling on acceptance: the “I suppose this is what we’re doing now” brand of acceptance.
“Gods, I end up with the guy I met on the first day.”
Reggie chuckled, giving Jasper another kiss on the cheek. “That’s how it turns out sometimes.” He traced a finger across Jasper’s body, running it under the cover across his torso, over the waist, but just stopping short of where he knew the bulge was. He had to savor it all — every last moment.
“If it makes it easier for you, I like to be taken from behind. But first, let’s start with something simple.”
Reggie pulled his hand back, going instead to roll Jasper out onto his back. He nestled himself into the sheets; Jasper couldn’t see what the white rat was doing, but he could undeniably feel what exactly was going on. Hands pulling his pants down, then teasing around his hips. The cool air brushed against his dick as it throbbed with anticipation, waiting for any kind of stimulation.
It didn’t have to wait long. Fingers curled around the member, gingerly stroking it. Jasper lifted up the covers to see Reggie smiling at him, delicate emerald eyes fixated on him. He kept his pace slow, but at a remarkably consistent speed. Jasper gave a weary smile back; half his attention was focused on the act, and the other half was focused on Reggie.
“So, how does it feel?” Reggie asked
“Yeah, it feels…” Jasper trailed off as he let out a soft moan. “Gods, it feels good.”
“Just wait for the next part.” Reggie said, turning his gaze back onto the dick. He stopped, took a deep breath, and forced himself on. The sudden sensation made Jasper gasp, but that surprise came with an unexpected moan. Everything kept piling on after that, the next few moments coming in a pleasuring blur. He could feel the tongue swirling around the hardened cock, the wetness and the heat driving him closer to the edge with each second. His grip on the covers began to falter as he started giving into the urge, moving his hips in rhythm with Reggie’s thrusts.
Then, just as suddenly, Reggie stopped, coughing as he took a ragged gasp for air. Enticement turned into concern at the drop of a hat.
“Is everything okay?” Jasper asked.
“I’m fine,” Reggie said. “But I’m not done yet. Remember what I said about ‘liking to take it from behind?’”
“Yeah.”
Reggie rolled himself to the other side of the bed; once he got out, he continued as he began to undress. “You know, I’ve been with pretty much everyone. Strong guys. Thin guys. Big guys. Small guys,” he paused as he dropped his tunic to the floor. “But do you want to know what they all have in common?”
“What?”
He didn’t respond immediately. The tease continued as he dropped his pants to the floor, leaving his nude body illuminated by the candlelight. Only after that did he look back at Jasper. He still kept silent, letting the gray rat take in the view. A flash of lightning briefly highlighted the full figure; slim with curves in all the right places. He crawled back into bed, moving the covers aside to full expose both him and Jasper’s dick. Reggie sat just in front of him, both their members aligned with each other.
“They’re all cute. That’s what.” Reggie answered, rubbing the gray rat’s pink tip; the small bit of precum built up slid between his fingers, just the tiniest bit of lubrication for the inevitable.
“Well, uh...thanks.” Jasper said. The shade of red flooding into his face was impossible to not notice. Reggie leaned in, holding up Jasper’s head and looking into his eyes.
“That’s what they all say. But you...you’re the cutest.”
He gave him another quick kiss before pulling himself back perpendicular to Jasper. Then he lifted himself over the dick, dropping himself down without even looking. Both of them let out a synchronized moan as they connected.
“Now this is where the fun really begins.”
If oral was enough to make Jasper’s sense of self begin to blur, what Reggie was doing to him made his mind melt into mush. Any previous conceptions and concerns were thrown aside without a care. The only thing he could focus on in the moment was the white rat bouncing on top of him, his own dick flopping with him.
Anything else had to revolve around him. The warmth of his ass coming in and out as they fucked. His hand firmly pressed against his chest for support. His tail finding its way around his thigh, teasing him — but when he managed to get this far, teasing meant nothing. Communication devolved into repeated utterances of “fuck”, “gods”, and other various ways of begging for more coming out of both sides. Reggie was more than happy to give him what he needed.
“Please, just-” Jasper started, but then suddenly stopped.
“Are you getting close?” Reggie asked, each word said between ragged breaths. Jasper just nodded. That tensing feeling was all-too familiar, and he knew what was going to happen next. Reggie sped up the pace; Jasper opened his mouth to say something, but then stopped. His thoughts slipped as he gave into the sensation.
“Gods, I’m about to-”
Reggie slammed back down onto Jasper’s pelvis, collapsing down onto him as he came inside. Jasper’s mind went white as the stimulation overcame him. Reggie’s softness and the warmth of the cum inside left Jasper dazed, exhausted, and sweaty. Yet so was Reggie. Did that make it even hotter? Once his mind started coming down from the after-glow, he decided on the answer: yes — by the gods, yes, it did.
Reggie gave him another kiss on the lips. This time wasn’t as off-guard, but it felt...different than the first time. Maybe it was just the way things felt after sex. Maybe it was the way their bodies felt together before sex. Maybe...it was just because it was Reggie. Whatever the reason, it was a damn good one.
The rest of that stormy night was spent together in Reggie’s room, cuddling together as the rain poured on.
