Jemma's sweet romance lasted less than half a semester Will has always been dissatisfied with his girlfriend's "flaw" of loving her more than studying. After soundproof the secret room, he added all the dissatisfaction, jealousy, and current anger he had towards Will over the past few months to his wand. He released all the poisonous spells he knew in his life, and in his excitement, he didn't even notice that he subconsciously uttered some ancient spells that were not recorded in literature.
Finally, before Will collapsed from exhaustion and a broken throat, Fitz let him know that if he were to reveal it, he would immediately enjoy the thrill of being gouged out.
This is the real reason why Will couldn't face the pure and harmless demons in front of Jemma every day, couldn't control his fear, and was forced to transfer schools.
