Icesurge was thrown into some kind of underground arena, bound and covered in ice armor. He looked around cautiously to see too many spectators for him to count cheering, for what he didn’t know yet.
“A kid?” Icesurge whipped around to see an agitated sandwing. “This is an insult to my skill.” The sandwing called upwards towards the crowd.
“I want to see what exactly the kid can do.” The original sandwing captor called back. “He may be our weapon to kill Steelblade.” Icesurge watched as the sandwing faced against him shot a fireblast at him. He only ducked his head under his wing and hoped for a copy of last time. His prayers were answered and he felt only a small amount of heat as it hit his armor.
“What the shit?” The sandwing snarled before charging him with his tail. Icesurge made an attempt to dodge but was too late as the sandwing’s tail made a hit, thankfully bouncing off his armor. “Holy fuck that’s cold.” Icesurge turned around to see ice slowly growing onto the sandwing, starting from his tail. “What the hell did you do to me?” The sandwing snarled at him.
“I- I don’t know!” Icesurge replied, fear in his voice.
“MORE BLOODSHED!” Icesurge winced when he heard the spectators above him. They want us to kill each other. Icesurge thought with panic as the sandwing attempted to charge again, but was slowly due to the slowly adding weight. Icesurge shot a frost blast at the legs of the sandwing to immobilize him.
“Coward!” The sandwing snarled at him as he laid there, unable to move.
“The kid is proving to be disappointing.” Icesurge heard Avalanche’s voice above him. “How is he supposed to kill the steelwing when he can’t even kill a sandwing?”
“He’ll get there.” Icesurge’s sandwing captor replied. “All dragons eventually break from fighting non-stop.”
“Are you sure about that Condor?” Icesurge’s mudwing captor asked the sandwing. “He looks far too weak to even hurt a fuckin deer.” Icesurge flinched her words.
“He’ll learn to kill.” Condor reassured the other two. “If he wants a chance at making it out of here.” Icesurge snapped his head towards the sandwing and saw him smiling evilly. They’re going to keep me here for the rest of my life. Icesurge thought with distress.
“Well?” Some random mudwing said. “Are you going to kill him or not? The audience is getting bored.”
“No!” Icesurge yelled. “I’m not going to kill for you.” Avalanche and the mudwing both looked at Condor with unimpressed looks.
“Don’t feed him until he racks up a kill or two.” Condor said as he walked away. I’m doomed. Icesurge thought with pain as he laid down in the middle of the arena with his wings over his head.
A few days later, Icesurge was starting to hurt from how hungry he was getting.
“The kid is actively killing himself.” Avalanche said to Condor. Icesurge had grown to hate his captors as they took him away from his uncles and treated him like an object, much like his parents and icewing royals.
“Maybe this’ll convince him.” Condor said as he nodded to two skywings who nodded back. Icesurge watched in fear as the two skywings faced him together. Kill or be killed. He thought with distress as he watched the two skywings. He saw one of the skywings charging up a fireblast and sent his own icebreath right into the mouth of the skywing. The skywing writhed about on the ground, clutching his neck as his body slowly turned to ice.
“Well that’s one kill.” The mudwing captor said with an unimpressed tone. “Now he’s just going to immobilize the other one and we have to have 6 dragons melting the ice again.” Little did the mudwing know, was that Icesurge had the other skywing encased in ice underneath him with his talons at the skywing’s neck.
“What the?” Avalanche said when he finally noticed what was happening.
“You took me from my uncle.” Icesurge growled at the skywing underneath him. He could feel tears forming as he thought of his uncle, the only icewing to fight for him.
“I doubt he was all that special.” The skywing mocked with a roll of his eyes. Icesurge felt a wave of fury as he raked his serrated claws across the skywing’s neck and hopped off of him, leaving him to bleed out.
“Well I’ll be damned.” The mudwing captor said. “He actually killed them. At least that makes the choice easier.”
“Agreed.” Avalanche said. “I’d much rather throw out corpses than try to melt that ice.” Icesurge glared up at his original captors. I’m coming for you next. He thought.
“Should we feed him now sir?” Some random sandwing asked Condor.
“He can be fed now, yes.” Condor said with an evil smile. “And make sure he gets fed well. We want him in peak condition to fight the steelwing.” Icesurge snorted as he walked back to the cave we was imprisoned in usually. He heard the doors slam closed behind him before he walked over to the corner that was slowly being infested with ice. Icesurge had often spent his time in that corner crying himself to sleep at his situation. But this time, he had that wave of rage fueling him. I’m going to get out of here, kill those my captors, and then find my uncle in Possibility. He thought as he laid down in an attempt to sleep. However that was cut short as he heard some kind of smaller door open on his cell door and saw what appeared to be a freshly killed pig sitting there. He tried to resist the urge to give in to the cult’s nonsense but his hunger drove him to eat the pig in seconds.
A few years later, Icesurge had become a seasoned fighter, with majority control over his ice growth. He was busy fighting a sandwing when he saw the arena entrance left open. He froze his bindings and snapped them off as he bolted for the exit.
“He’s getting away!” A few spectators called as he raced out. Icesurge had been studying his original captors for the past few years and knew where they would be. They hardly watched his fights anymore as they were satisfied that he was doing their bidding.
“And what of the skywing relics?” Icesurge slowed to a halt outside a door at the sound if Avalanche’s voice.
“What do they matter?” Condor replied. “Most of them are useless due to their magic fading. The only ones left are the one that suppresses firescales and the one that just makes an egg appear if presented with DNA of two dragons.”
“Wait.” Icesurge flinched at the thoughtful tone in the mudwing captor’s voice, he still somehow never caught her name. “What if we get the DNA of a firescales, and combine it with the kid’s DNA?” Icesurge winced before a wave of rage went through him.
“And how do you suggested we get the DNA of a firescales?” Condor asked. “You two aren’t allowed in the sky kingdom so even if you could find Scarlet’s pet, you wouldn’t last long.”
“And I’ve noticed the kid doesn’t bleed easily.” Avalanche added on. “He always has that ice armor so nothing actually manages to hit him.”
“It’s just DNA right?” The mudwing captor said. “We could just get saliva from the both and it should work in theory right?”
“Ok, say we actually do get both without considerable losses.” Condor started, voice getting more agitated. “And what’s the likelihood of the dragon getting what we want from a firescales and the kid?”
“We could just send the useless ones against the kid in the arena.” The mudwing said. Icesurge was rooted to the floor in astonishment. They would sacrifice dragonets to me just because they didn’t fit their quota? He thought as he reached for the doorknob, ready to kill them. He wasn’t given the chance as he was smacked in the back of the head with some kind of metal and blacked out.
It was nearing Icesurge’s tenth hatching day and he had gotten out a few more times to spy on his captors. But everytime, he had let his anger get control and he was recaptured, the arena getting more and more secure each time. Wonder if Walrus is still alive. He thought as he remembered the only one that celebrated his hatching day. He had seen six new prisoners of the cult arrive the previous day. What made these prisoners different, was that they were apparently friends and family of the steelwing this cult kidnapped him to kill. Wonder if they’ll even be worth my time. He thought as he took a peak out. It was the beginning of a new fight between the mud/sky hybrid he’d seen a few times and a younger sandwing. He was watching the fight for a while before he realized his gaze was lingering on the hybrid’s features. The muscles flexing as he fought for survival, the scar on the his front leg, and the handsome face of the hybrid. WHAT I AM DOING? Icesurge thought as he smacked his head against the door. I’M PROBABLY GOING TO BE SENT TO KILL HIM SOON. He admired the hybrid’s dedication to make it out alive, but it wasn’t of any use because Icesurge was always sent against prisoners that got too far. He peaked at the fight again to see the hybrid had the sandwing pinned against the wall, snarling something that Icesurge didn’t catch before he skillfully slashed the sandwing’s neck.
“Release the champion.” Icesurge heard the announcer say as the hybrid backed away from the bleeding corpse. Already? Icesurge thought, a slight hint of panic in his heart. It caught Icesurge off guard as he fell forward from the door opening suddenly. He quickly got up and forced himself to stalk towards the hybrid. As he got closer, he noticed more details that made him want to soare the hybrid more and more. He locked eyes with the hybrid and saw history in his eyes, revealing he’s not your everyday dragon. He could also see some other emotions in the hybrid’s eyes.
“Listen, Icesurge.” The hybrid started, surprising Icesurge. “We can both make it out alive. You just have to work with me and my family.” You think I haven’t tried breaking out? Icesurge thought with anger as he charged the hybrid. The hybrid dodged in reaction.
“What makes you think that?” The icewing growled at his opponent. “Do you think I haven’t tried breaking out of this prison before?” Icesurge could feel the sadness he had felt when he realized he’d have to kill the hybrid being replaced by anger that the hybrid thought he and the others could do better than him. “What would you and the other five be able to do that I can’t?” Icesurge growled as he charged at the hybrid. The hybrid managed to shoulder check him away. Icesurge didn’t see any ice growing on the hybrid which ticked him off because the hybrid was proving to be an arrogant shithead. But he was also confused as to why the ice didn’t form on the hybrid, or himself for that matter as he realized he had actually felt the hit when the hybrid shoulder checked him.
“Because we have a steelwing helping us break out in a few minutes.” The hybrid said as Icesurge recovered.
“What makes you so confident?” He snarled before making his way over to the hybrid.
“Well this fight is certainly going differently.” Oh shut the fuck up already. Icesurge thought as the announcer rambled on. “Icesurge isn’t toying with his opponent this ti-“ the announcer cut off as Icesurge saw a steelwing fighting the cult out of the corner of his eye.
“That is what.” The hybrid said before Icesurge pinned him to the ground. He tried to blast his icebreath at the hybrid but something was stopping him, as if his body refused to hurt the hybrid. He decided to humor the hybrid and look up to see the steelwing fighting off every cult member that got close.
“Who says he isn’t fighting to escape?” Icesurge snarled in the hybrid’s face. That was when he realized why his ice refused to do anything to the hybrid. Don’t tell me I have hope from this hybrid. He thought as he heard the sound that was the ‘release all prisoners’ and looked up to see the steelwing had made his way to the controls. Icesurge felt a bit of hope form inside him. “Guess that’s a good piece of evidence.” He grumbled as he climbed off the hybrid. I guess I’ll work with them, but I don’t want them thinking I’m their ally. He thought as the other five who arrived with the hybrid approached. Little did he know, he would end up marrying the hybrid in the future and know all those dragons by name.
