It was just a few months after Kagome returned to the Feudal Era, it was breezy, but something seemed amiss. She stood with Inuyasha arms wrapped around his arm not too far from the Bone Eater's well, a sense of longing filled her heart. She stared at the well wondering if it would ever open back up for her to return to see her family. She wondered what they were up to, since she wasn't there. She could only hope for now, but that hope made her sad. It was later that evening when everyone was asleep, including Inuyasha. But Kagome couldn't sleep, she kept thinking about the well and her family on the other side. She stared out the window of her hut, it was a cool night. She didn't want to wake Inuyasha, he was sleeping so soundly. She slowly got up and walked out of the hut leaving Inuyasha behind to sleep. Inuyasha sensed his wife got up and left, he opened one eye just in time to see her leave. Kagome walked to the top of the hill and walked to the Bone Eater's well, Inuyasha not too far behind wondering what she could be thinking.
Kagome now standing in front of the well, wondering and thinking about her family and friends she left behind. Tears streaming down her face, she was sad she could no longer see them. She heard the rustling of the grass, as she turned around to see Inuyasha heading her way. Inuyasha knew something was wrong as he got closer to his wife. He walked up behind her and asked, "Hey Kagome… Are you ok?" He knew she was upset about something, but he wanted her to be open about it instead of prying for the answer. Kagome fell silent before saying, "It's nothing Inuyasha. Let's just go back home..." Inuyasha sensed that she wouldn't tell him, he stood there before he put his arm out stopping her from leaving. "Kagome…" he asked. "What's wrong, please tell me?"
Kagome let out a gasp, she knew he wouldn't let it go until she told him what was on her mind. She grabbed his robe of the fire rat and leaned her head in his chest before glancing back at the well again. She walked over to the well and Inuyasha followed behind. With one hand on the Bone Eater's Well and the other in a fist close to her chest she started crying once more. Kagome looked down into the well as she asked, "I don't think… I'll ever be able to see my family again... Will I?" Covering her mouth as there was now a stream of tears falling down her face.
Inuyasha now looking at his wife surprised put his hand on her shoulder as he sat her down on the side of the well put his hand on her cheek said, "Kagome…" "If you have hope, the well powers could return someday. I mean the well did bring you here."
He put his hand on her cheek as she rested her hand on his arm as she leans her forehead on his. Kagome's head falls on Inuyasha's shoulder as he grabs her hand to hold it. He didn't care about her tears soaking his robe of the fire rat, as long as she was comfortable that's what mattered most. He leaned his head closer to hers as she sat and cried. Inuyasha then got up and took Kagome's hand in his as he said, "Kagome, come home with me." Kagome looked up with her hand in his as he helped her get up and walked home together. A few days later Kagome went back to the well and sat on it in, feeling the warmth of the sun on her face. Still thinking about her friends and family back home, she didn't even hear Inuyasha walk up behind her. Inuyasha sat down next to her, and she slowly opened her eyes feeling Inuyasha's body nestle around her. She leaned her head on his shoulder as he leaned his head on top of hers as their eyes closed.
As Kagome was sitting on top of the Bone Eater's Well with Inuyasha leaning against him with her head rested on his shoulder she heard him speak softly to her. She opened her eyes and looked up at him as he rested his chin on top of her head and looked at her with love and tenderness in his eyes as he spoke to her, "Kagome, I want you to know that you are home to me. You are my heart." He then stood up and looked at Kagome who was looking at him as he said to her, "I consider you family. You taught me how to smile, more than that you taught me how to believe in people. You're the reason why I was able to make friends and rely on those friends. To shed tears for others, to understand the meaning of true strength and kindness, those were all things you taught me. You came into this world to be with me, and I was born for you as well. You accepted, loved and cared for me in all my forms but most importantly as I am a Half-Demon. Kagome, until I met you, I never trusted a living soul. But I watched you shed tears for my sake. Whenever I'm with you I feel so peaceful and happy. You even came back to me and decided to stay with me even when I was running off to see Kikyo many times."
Kagome said to herself, 'Huh? Get to the point Inuyasha, what are you trying to say to me?' What he did next confused her. He bent down on one knee in front of her and facing her and held her hand while looking into her eyes as he said, "Will you be my family…. Forever?" Kagome then said to herself, 'Is he proposing to me and asking me to marry him?' Yeah, I think he is.' As realization hit her, she couldn’t catch her breath, and she felt her heartbeat within her chest. Tears of happiness started to form in her eyes as she started to cry and had her hand on her chest as she said to him, "Inuyasha…" She then wiped her tears from her eyes. He looked at her as she removed her hand from her chest, and he let go of her other hand as she reached both her hands out to hold his face gently. She was holding his face with both of her hands on each side and then leaned down to him until they were face to face as she looked into his eyes gently as she asked him, "Inuyasha, are you asking me to marry you?" Kagome was still caressing his face, smiling at him as he then took one of his hands and grabbed her wrist. The touch of her soft hands felt so good and soothing on his face. As he did, he then said to her, "Yes… will you?"
Kagome then kneeled down in front of him, and she grabbed his shoulder as she pulled herself closer to hug him. As she did, she embraced him with tears in her eyes as she shouted to him, "Of course, yes!" They embraced for a very long time lost in the moments and she said to him, "I love you; I love you so much. You made me the happiest woman in all of Feudal Japan. I want to be yours forever." Then they both got up and Inuyasha lifted her a few feet above him holding her up as the both of them stared into each other's eyes and smiled. They both got caught up in the moment again as both of them kissed passionately on the lips. That made Kagome feel better about missing her family. He was going to be hers and she was going to be his. He was going to be a part of her own family soon, as her husband to be. She'll cook for him, and she'll always be near him when he sleeps with him. And even going to the hot springs together to swim, bathe and relax, and perhaps her and Inuyasha will have a little family of their own to take care of and love.
