Queen Scarlet: A Petrarcan Sonnet

Summary:

A Petrarcan Sonnet about Queen Scarlet

Notes:

The rhyming scheme for the Petrarcan Sonnet's more complicated that the one for the Shakespearean Sonnet. I wanted to attempt that sonnet with Queen Scarlet. but it's likely I will write a Shakespearean Sonnet in the near future told from Scarlet's POV.

The octave, or first eight lines, are always rhymed ABBAABBA. The sestet, or the final six lines, have a number of rhyming ways; mine has a CDCDCD rhyme scheme. Again, there is a page on Writer's Digest about the Petrarcan Sonnet.

I hope you enjoy my first Petrarcan Sonnet.

Work Text:

SkyWing Queen Scarlet! Majestically strong,

With scales of a dark orange color,

Firestorm was your bold and bright mother,

SkyWing Queen Scarlet, nothing could go wrong.

Queen Scarlet! Queen Scarlet! One who's not wrong,

With yellow eyes that are never duller,

Like a bright SkyWing with bright tricolors,

Queen Scarlet would very much have a song.

With Vermillion and soldier Kestrel,

You’re a cold flame that would never go out.

With Kestrel on duty as General,

SkyWing Queen Scarlet is what it's about.

Queen Scarlet! She flies like a strong mistral,

She is the queen of the SkyWings, no doubt.
