It still felt a bit surreal that the game was actually over.
Kenma knew they lost, and somewhere, deep in his gut, maybe he was a little frustrated.
But honestly, even if he was, those feelings were crushed down completely by the overwhelming joy he felt.
It was funny, who knew losing could feel this great?
Kenma wobbled where he stood, trying not to collapse. Cheers rang out from the crowd and from Karasuno as they celebrated their victory.
And standing in the center of it all, was the boy who could fly.
Hinata seemed like he himself couldn’t believe they’d really won. It was kind of sweet.
Sure, he loved to win, but Kenma had a feeling that in this moment? He was feeling the same as him.
They were just happy to have faced each other for real.
Kenma couldn’t help the smile beginning to form on his lips, watching as Hinata cheered and hugged his teammates.
This was the best game I’ve ever played.
He didn’t want to lose the feeling. He wanted it to keep going forever and ever. He never wanted to lose the weird drive Hinata could somehow spark in him.
Before he knew it, Hinata was looking his way, and beaming brighter than the sun. Sweat poured off his body, and it was clear he was exhausted.
And yet he glowed. Like a game character who recently used a powerful booster of some kind.
Kenma felt his heart race at the sight, the familiar bubble of excitement sparking in his chest despite his own exhaustion.
Hinata…would always bring this out in him, wouldn’t he?
“Oi! Kenma!” Hinata happily ran towards him. “That was amazing! You guys were amazing! You were amazing!”
Kenma’s eyes slitted like a cat watching its prey, smile widening as his body moved on its own.
He barely had time to see Hinata’s shocked expression before he was fluttering his eyes shut and pressing his lips against the shorter boy’s.
The two stumbled back, collapsing on the ground because Hinata was too startled to keep them up right, especially with how tired they were. If people were looking, or speaking, neither could hear them.
Kenma finally broke the kiss, looking down at Hinata with unfiltered, genuine joy. His cheeks flushed a soft baby pink.
“That…was the only way I could think to one up you…” He admitted, finally understanding his team members desire for rivalry.
Or maybe it wasn’t rivalry at all. Whatever this was…felt so much better than that.
Hinata’s shocked expression softened into something of pure fondness and affection, his own blush sprouting on his cheeks. “You couldn’t…let me have my win…for even a moment?” He teased between pants.
Kenma merely grinned, leaning down to kiss him again. This time Hinata lifted himself up to meet him halfway.
Kenma could vaguely hear Kuroo yelling at him to get a move on, and Yaku freaking out because ‘God you two are so embarrassing, there’s cameras, you know.’ And other junk, but Kenma really couldn’t care less.
Maybe Kenma didn’t win the battle. Maybe he got that big bright red game over sign he loathed so much.
But at least the game wasn’t over.
Not yet.
