This was a bad idea (or was it?)

Summary:

The Uppercrust family has more than enough money to go on multiple vacations per year. It just so happens that every year Bradley goes skiing with the Gammas.

How does this change now that he is dating the one and only Max Goof? Well, the answer is simple...

He takes Max, and his friends, along for the vacation.

Notes:

I don't know why but I imagine because Bradley is rich he gets to go on vacation a lot, so he travels to Austria every year with the Gammas to go skiing. Here’s a fic related to that idea yw gang <3

Also, I know nothing about skiing apart from like, 2 vlogs I watched relating to the subject so I’ll try my best to research things along the way. And theres also a lot of personal headcanons in here such as Max being able to speak Spanish and more :3

And they're prolly slightly OOC sorry for that 😭🙏

Work Text:

“This was a bad idea.”

“No its not.”

“Why did I ever agree to this???”

“Oh calm down you big baby. You won the X-games but can't handle a skiing trip?”

“That’s on the ground. Well… mostly. This is on a snowy mountain. There’s a big difference.” Max groans, looking out the window of the gondola at the snowy trees below. Currently, the pair were huddled up together in a gondola, heading up the mountain to the ski tracks.

Bradley smirks at the other, his arms crossed and leaned back, relaxed. He's gone skiing every year since he was a kid. He used to go with his parents but eventually, they stopped coming because they just didn’t care enough to spend time with him. Of course, they still gave him the money and necessities that he needed to travel, so he ended up going every year with the Gammas instead.

After he met Max, his whole life got turned around. At first, they hated each other after Max won the X-Games. Well, it was more Bradley hating Max. But can you blame him? Because he didn't win that year, his father threw away his skateboard for “dishonouring the family”. It took Max asking him why he didn’t skate anymore, and a whole lot of arguments and miscommunication to get to where they are now.

After Max had heard what his dad did to his skateboard, he let Bradley borrow his. Through this exchange, they started to become something close to friends, before eventually falling in love. Max realised Bradley had fallen for him before Bradley himself realised, and he was the one to ask him out.

Of course, Max’s dad was fine with it, Bradley’s dad however wasn’t. When Bradley told his parents about his boyfriend during the winter break they threw him out of the house and broke all contact with him.

That Christmas was the first time he actually had fun, as he spent the vacation with Max and his family. The difference in the way they celebrate shocked him at first. Goofy made sure the holiday was as festive as possible, the entire house decorated from top to bottom. Bradley couldn’t even remember a time in his childhood when his parents had bothered to put up a Christmas tree.

After that Christmas, Bradley didn't expect his parents to send him money for the normal yearly vacations, or even for rent. But he was surprised when his Mum reached out, apologising for not speaking up when his dad kicked him out and promising to love him and continue paying for his life, which is what led him to his current situation.

Normally Bradley would only take Tank and the rest of the Gammas on vacation with him, but this time he had a boyfriend. And Max had never gone skiing before, so Bradley invited him and his friends to come on the trip with him.

Turns out PJ had gone skiing before, thanks to his dad, so he gave Bobby and Max a basic lesson before shoving Max in a gondola with Bradley and telling them to have fun. They then turned and ran to the ski lifts, laughing and yelling that they’d meet them at the top of the mountain.

Max covers his face with his hands, “I can’t believe I agreed to this. I’m so going to die. This is the end. Tell my Dad I love him.”

Bradley laughs, shaking his head and sliding closer to Max, patting him on the back, “I don’t know why you’re so scared. You skateboard basically every day and are good at skating as well as bicycling. What’s so bad about learning to ski too?”

Max turns to face Bradley, “Have you never seen those movies of people getting stuck on snowy mountains or dying of injuries from skiing? Also what if I fall and make a fool of myself.”

“Oh chill out Goof, I’ll be there to help you. I’m not going to let you get hurt or anything. Also didn’t you say you knew how to snowboard?”

Max shuddered, curling up in his snow gear, “Yeah but snowboarding isn’t the same as skiing. And I haven’t gone snowboarding since middle school.” As he talks Bradley notices him fidgeting with his gloves, which hes come to learn is something Max does when he’s nervous.

Bradley smiles, tugging Max closer to him, “You’ll do fine, trust me. As an ex-gamma member I can tell when someone has potential” He says, trying to cheer him up. Max smiles at him and nods.

Bradley stops, panting slightly. After he and Max got to the top of the track they waited for all their friends to join before starting. Bobby immediately challenged Bradley to a race down the mountain, claiming to be “testing his manliness for Maximillion” but before Bradley could say anything Bobby tripped on the snow and fell.

After that fiasco, the Gamma members started heading down the mountain, saying if anyone got separated they would meet at a cafe at the bottom to warm up and relax. Everyone had started going down, and through the talking and skiing Bradley had lost sight of Max.

Where he stopped was somewhere on the side of the track, with a view through the trees to the mountains surrounding the resort. There wasnt too much wind, so the sky was clear and there was no fog. If Bradley had painting abilities he knew he would’ve set up an easel and tried to paint the scene infront of him, but being honest if he tried with his current abilities it would probably be something like those childrens colouring book drawings.

As he’s admiring the view, he doesn’t hear the voice screaming his name, nor the body flying towards him until it crashes into him and they both go flying to the snowy ground screaming.

Bradley groans, the air in his chest leaving him as the person lands on top of him, managing to thankfully not kick him in the face with on of their ski’s. Once Bradley gains his bearings and looks at the figure on his chest he notices a familiar black haired boy covered in snow flattening him (not literally).

He blinks, brushing the snow off the other boy’s head affectionately, “I hate to say it Max, but when you ski the aim isnt really to bodyslam into other people at top speed. If you want a sport like that go play American Football.”

Max groans from on top of him, his head buried in his chest, “Este deporte es tan jodidamente estúpido ( This sport is so stupid ). ” He mutters from his spot ontop of Bradley. Lifting his head up to look at Bradley, “Did I hurt you?”

Bradley scoffs, “Nah. Im more worried over you trying to pull a speedrun when skiing.” He jokes, laughing when Max punches his side affecitonately, a flustered smile on his face.

“Woaah guys! Keep it PG while on the track.”

Max jumps slightly, and they both turn to watch as Bobby slides to a stop beside them still on the floor, PJ and Tank behind him.

Max groans at his comment, grabbing some snow from the ground and chucking it in Bobby’s direction, “¡Cállate! (Shut up!) Leave us alone!” He jokes, not looking very threatening from his position on the ground.

Bobby and the other grin, giving eachother knowing looks before turning and skiing off, yelling a goodbye. Bradley chuckles, finally making a move to get up. He stands easily then grabs Max’s hands, helping pull him up afterwards.

“I’m not letting you out of my sight if your plan is to speed down the mountain at top speed.” Bradley says, turning in Max’s direction.

Max rolls his eyes fondly, but grabs his ski poles and starts moving past Bradley, “good, that’ll give me more opportunities to trip you up.” He jokes back, wobbling slightly as he moves.

Bradley grins affectionately at him, but the two start heading down the mountain together after the others.

“You’re up late. I figured after the amount of times you fell today you’d want to sleep away the pain.”

Max turns his head, peeking out of the blanket hes wrapped around himself. After they had spent the whole day skiing they had gone back to the ski chalet Bradley had gotten for the group. He’d gotten a pretty big one that was able to fit all 6 Gamma members, plus Max’s friends and himself.

Currently it was 11pm and everyone had headed up to their rooms. There were about 6 bedrooms in the chalet and everyone was in their chosen rooms for the night, except for Max and Bradley.

Currently Max was sitting on the couch in the – frankly, way too large – living room. The fireplace was running and lighting up the dark room with a warm glow, giving the wooden cabin a warm and homely vibe.

“I didn’t fall that much, you’re exaggerating mi amor (my love).” Maxley says, his eyes half-lidded. Bradley sits next to him on the couch and hands him a warm mug, setting another one down on the end table. A quick sip tells Max that its hot chocolate, which Bradley has just made. For him.

“You’re such a sap sometimes you know?” Max mutters, drinking from the mug anyways, enjoying the warm drink.

“Oh well my apologies for wanting to do something nice for my boyfriend. Ill be sure to pour it ontop of you next time.” Bradley bites back, though its easy to tell there was no malice behind it, only a teasing and warm comforting feeling Max has come to associate with Bradley’s presence.

Max hums tiredly, having no energy to tease him back. He opens the blanket to toss it around Bradley aswell as him and leans against him, soaking up his warmth. Sue him but Bradley always seemed to be warmer than him, probably because of the crazy amount of sweaters that he constantly wears, even in the summer.

Which reminds him…

“Hey wait… are you wearing my sweater right now?”

Max blinks innocently up at him, “I am? Oh… how did that happen?” He grins, knowing Bradley secretly loves it when he wears his clothes.

Bradley glares down at him, but theres no heat behind their eyes, not like when they first met. Instead whenever Max looks at Brad now all he sees is love and safety hidden in those blue eyes.

Suddenly Bradley leans in, quickly giving Max a kiss before hes able to comprehend what’s happening, then he turns his head so hes resting his head on the shorter boys black hair.

“I cant even be mad at you. And you totally know that, which I hate.”

Max grins, getting comfortable in Bradley’s embrace, still sipping on his cup of hot chocolate.

“So was it a bad idea?” Bradley asks quietly, as to not disturb the mood.

“What do you mean?”

“In the gondola before you actually started skiing you said this trip was a bad idea. Was I right to assume you would enjoy it?”

Maxley grins, leaning up to kiss Bradley’s cheek, “Yeah you were right. It wasnt a bad idea.”

“....Was the trip better than that one you went on with your dad in high school?”

“Okay now you're pushing it.”
