Work Text:
It was perfect.
Waking up next to Marinette wasn't a novelty. Adrien had spent too many nights in her childhood room to count. Not to mention her sleeping over.
But now, finally, they had their own place. His and hers. No more well-wishing parents, no more nosy roommates, nothing to disturb them.
Well, except for a bunch of kwamis, but those were dormant nowadays.
So basically it was just them. And it was Sunday, which usually didn't mean much for Marinette and her commissions. But this time Adrien had plans.
They deserved a day in bed but not the kind that meant sleeping in. Marinette did that regularly while he looked for a way to entertain himself.
This time they weren't going to sleep. Since there was no risk of someone walking in on them, they were free to have their way with each other at any time. Morning sex, here they came! Pun intended.
Adrien knew that trying this was risky. Marinette was as far from a morning person as one could get. But she had gone to bed very early the night before. In fact, it had been happening almost every night over the past week. So while she was obviously tired and needed to catch up on sleep, this meant that she couldn't get mad at Adrien for waking up at the perfectly normal hour of eighth, right?
Just to be on the safe side, through, Adrien was prepared. He knew that there was something that Marinette couldn't resist and it happened to be in season. He could imagine her face when she tried the first juicy and sweet peaches for the year. It was bound to put her in a good mood.
He smiled to himself as he cut the slices and arranged them on a plate. It was so great to be able to spoil his lady like that. He vowed to do it every day for the rest of the summer.
"Wake up, sleeping beauty," he said softly as he approached the bed. Marinette didn't move.
Adrien took a slice of peach in his fingers and lifted it to his nose. The aroma was rich and almost as sweet as the fruit. It would have to work.
"I promise that you won't regret waking up when you try this," he said, leaning in and putting the slice near Marinette's nose.
It scrunched up instantly and he bit back a chuckle, expecting her to open her mouth and take a bite even before opening her eyes.
To his surprise, her skin took on a green hue as her eyes flew open and she jumped out of the bed, while clamping a hand over her mouth.
He looked in horror at her retreating form as she ran to the bathroom.
"Marinette?" He called after her as he got over the initial shock and let worry propel him after her.
"No, go away," she groaned, doubled over the toilet bowl.
"Are you sick?" He asked, as he did the opposite of what she was asking and gathered her hair away from her face as she dry heaved.
She waited a moment to make sure that the worst was over before sitting on the cold tiles.
"It was just the peach," she grimaced.
"You love peaches," Adrien said slowly, confused.
"It smelled sickeningly sweet. I guess it no longer agrees with my stomach," she shrugged.
"That's strange, m'lady. People don't usually change their taste overnight. Unless they are pregnant..."
Her eyes widened at the same moment his own words fully registered in his mind.
"No!"
"The fatigue, the early nights, now this. It all makes sense," he exclaimed.
"But, but... I can't be pregnant, not now," she said, her face the picture of misery.
"I think you can be. We were quite busy with the move and you might have missed a pill or two. And you remember how we celebrated our first night here," he smirked.
It was obvious that she did because some colour returned to her face.
"Kitty, you don't understand," she still frowned. "We just moved in together. This is the time for us to enjoy having this. I can't be pregnant now. We didn't plan it like that."
Now she looked really distressed. Adrien scooted closer and put his arm around her shoulders.
"Hey, things don't always go according to plan," he said gently. "But it's not a bad thing."
"You're saying this but you had something planned for this morning, right?" He couldn't deny it, she knew him too well, so he nodded. "Aren't you mad now that it's ruined? And this is just the beginning," she dragged a hand over her face. "Everything will change."
Adrien couldn't have this. Did she really think that he wasn't over the moon over the possibility of them having a baby?
"Marinette, I don't care that you don't want to eat the peaches and spend the morning in bed with me. It doesn't matter. We've always wanted to have children."
"One day!" She cried out. "Not this soon."
"That day might as well be today. Unless you really don't want this."
Dreaming about something and actually facing it were different things. Adrien would never want to force her into something she wasn't ready for.
Cold fingers touched his cheek.
"No, Adrien, I do. I'm just afraid that it might scare you away. You've been dreaming of us living together for years."
Her eyes were soft but full of concern.
"Precisely," he shot back. "I want to wake up in our bed every morning and make breakfast for you and kiss you for the rest of our lives. I want all this with you. Yes, even the unexpected trip to the bathroom," he insisted in response to her questioning look. "There is nothing that can make me not want it," he added for good measure.
"Are you sure?" She smiled slowly.
"Let me go to the pharmacy real quick and we'll talk more."
With a quick kiss to the top of her head, he was on his feet. He fully believed every word he said but he knew that having something concrete to work with would be better than basing all this on a possibility. He needed to know.
He was back so quickly, thanks to them living conveniently close to all the shops they could need, that Marinette was still in the bathroom brushing her teeth as he ran in, handing her the pregnancy test.
"I'll take care of the peaches," he said, leaving her to it.
He didn't want to risk her smelling them and feeling sick again. Hopefully, there would be other things she would love eating soon. He couldn't wait to spoil her.
When he got back, she was sitting on the bed, the test on the covers in front of her. Adrien silently sat next to her and pulled her into his arms.
"You used to say that it's you and me against the world," she said, her voice thick with emotion. "Do you still believe it?"
"Always," he said firmly. "We have always faced everything together. Expected, unexpected, it doesn't matter. We're in it together and this is not changing."
She didn't say anything, she just hugged him tightly and he felt her relax. Until something caught her eye.
"Then I guess we're having a baby," she gasped, reaching for the test. It was positive.
"We're having a baby!" Adrien whooped. "And just wait until next summer when I will have peaches ready for you every morning. It doesn't have to change. There will just be three of us then."
She giggled even though her eyes were full of tears when she looked at him.
"I can't wait."
The kiss that sealed the deal was somehow the best part.
Adrien knew for sure that everything happened for a reason and at the right time. Never too soon.
