There is a way that I think about...

Summary:

A small poem.

Post episode 706.

Notes:

I attempted something new for me. I don't know poetry and I have no idea of how to write it properly. But this is a try, an exercise.

If someone here knows about poetry and has any suggestions for improvement. I'll be very thankful to hear them.

Be kind.

Work Text:

There is a way that I think about love,
It's the glow in his eyes when I follow his lead,
A tight embrace after each medal, even if I bleed.
But when my training falters, his warmth's gone,
A drought where nurturing smiles once had grown.

There is a way that I think about hate,
My posters proudly raised on strangers walls,
Celebrating my triumphs, my name from his mouth falls.
Yet when I stumble, all devotion wanes,
A has-been cast aside, past glory remains.

There is a way that I think about life,
A raging fire igniting every vein,
Fueling my hunger, my desire to win again.
His smiles, his hugs, the reward for staying tough,
But is this love, or just being good enough?

There is a way that I think about opportunity,
Serendipity led me to your captivating gaze,
Your disarming smile later left me in a daze.
A bond forging between us; your presence, soothing,
Defying my rough edges, my heart starts curing.

There is a way that I think about us,
The dread of your leaving, a wound that won't mend,
Uncertainty swirling, a future I can't comprehend.
I offer marriage to keep your warmth forever near,
Yet, it scorched the freedom you held so dear.

There is a way that I think about you,
Your wants overflowing with desperation, eclipsing my own,
Demanding my dreams be outgrown, out shown.
Panic ensues, love's a foreign phrase,
Conditions echoing my childhood's frays.

There is a way that I think about fear,
The love in your smile when you speak of our kids,
I can't be cruel, tears caught in your eyelids.
I surrender, scared to lose your embrace,
For even a flicker of you beats empty space.

There is a way that I think about loss,
Failing to conceive, lost hope tearing us apart,
We're stagnant, inadequate, self-worth fading in our hearts.
We yearn for more, but failure's bitter taste,
Leaves love a riddle, its meaning a waste.

There is a way that I think about me,
He charges forth with fury, finish line etched in mind,
I falter, path obscured, what am I if not behind?
We rarely speak, I push, you pull, death's door draws near,
You dread the worst, labored breaths can't hold me, you fear.

Remember our talks of dark omens?
The crows, heralds of our fate, leaving us blind,
Distance slipped in, silence ensued, no longer being kind.
The agony of losing you cuts deep, a wound that won't mend,
You, me, our future, our love's tragic end.

But there is a way that I think about us now,
Without you, each breath's unbearable, life's not enough,
Longing invades my every thought.
To reclaim what was lost, I'd pay any cost.
New dreams take form, you, me, a new life.

There is new a way that I think about love,
His cries pierce the night, making us tense with fright.
Is he okay? Will we be enough?
Your soothing embrace lulls back his sleep.
It's you and Liam, the dreams I want to keep.
