sometimes they'd rest their head against her chest.
sometimes they'd even manage to convince themself that they could hear a heartbeat, somewhere deep within.
but it always disappeared soon enough after they found it.
"hmm...what's on your mind, angel?" she hummed, running her fingers through jonah's hair.
they knew this meant they'd have to wash it later.
even though they also knew they could never wash all of it off. something always stayed, some sort of stain, even if they couldn't see it or touch it.
it wasn't the type of stain that could be washed off.
"everything." they sighed, closing their eyes and pressing their face closer against her skin.
"mhm...must be difficult...so much inside one head..." jane tugged gently at the ends of jonah's hair, raising their face up just enough to kiss their forehead.
jonah let out a huff, their face going pink before they could hide it back in her chest.
"do you ever get tired of it? must be so lonely inside your brain. so much knowledge, no one to share it with."
they lifted their head to mumble against her neck.
"i prefer it that way. all this knowledge...it's mine, and mine alone."
"don't be selfish." jane scolded, wrapping her arms tighter around them, as if inviting them to become a part of her.
another worm in her hive.
they shuddered slightly at the thought, but something about her touch still comforted them. they relaxed in her arms.
"such a tired angel...go to sleep, darling...we'll take good care of you..."
