3 days, 72 hours, 4320 minutes, 259200 seconds and the gunshot still ran through his head. Breathing picking up, his head shot up from where he'd bent down in his motel bathroom, the white powder forgotten in an instant as the image of his best friend flashed through his mind. How he fell down.
"T! You gotta get outta here!" A groan of pain. "God, I'm not gonna make it. Fucking gonna bleed out."
Trevor gripped the sink in front of himself, trying to take deep breaths as his heart and mind raced. This was nothing like how his heart and mind raced when he took whatever concoction of drugs he could, this was heartbreak and nothing had hurt him more.
After that flash back he didn't remember much else, flashes of a night that hadn't happened. Dancing in a bar with a woman, her skirt and hair matched in colour and length. He remembered catching a glimpse of himself after he stumbled out of a bathroom stall, fucking or killing he couldn't remember. The person that looked back didn't look like him, more of a nightmare he might've had.
The woman appeared again, this time outside of the bar as Trevors hand tried to slip under that short skirt. He wasn't sure if she hit him but he remembered a sting to his hand, probably her slapping him away. The next thing made Trevors heart race as the memory came back.
A blackened crack pipe.
Blackened from use, Trevor stuck his hands up with a nervous laugh. "I'm good, I don't do that shit." Sure he'd had a few lines of coke here and there but never anything harder, he and Mikey weren't into that.
Except, Michael wasn't here anymore.
Finally as the last memory came rushing back, Trevors eyes shot open and he tried to lift his head but couldn't. He felt weak. Weak like he'd woken up in hospital after some big accident but there was no accident. There was no hospital. The ceiling above him was brown with black spots, at first he thought it was the pattern but when his foggy mind caught up he realised it was mold.
A glass smashing finally got Trevor to lift his head and he wished he never had.
All around laid out on mattresses, sofas, the floor and some just leaned up against the walls were people to high to realise where they were. Suddenly Trevor didn't feel so weak as he dragged himself up to his feet. The woman from the bar, or his dream, or whatever the hell had happened to him was laid next to where he'd been. Her legs and thighs pale, it reminded him of the snow outside. The only colour left was her pink top, a red bra strap peaking out from her shoulder and blood.
Blood.
He'd killed before, done it a lot since meeting Michael but nothing like this. Her neck was painted blue and purple, strangled. Her head laid in a puddle of blood, her head smashed into the concrete underneath. Trevor covered his mouth, bending over as he felt himself start to retch.
The movement of his arm alerted him to something else, as his hand came up to his mouth he felt a stabbing sensation, right in the crook of his elbow. Looking down his eyes widened in horror as an empty needle seemed to mock him.
"Come on T, you're not an addict."
"You start that shit you'll never stop Trev."
"Just get the coke Trevor! Nothing else! Fuck sake..."
Michael's voice rang in his ears as he gripped the needle, ripping it from his vein and throwing it down. The small glass veil broke under his foot as he smashed it with his boot.
"You'll be back." The woman's body was no longer the nameless woman Trevor had seen. It was Michael, laid out in the snow as he smirked up at Trevor from his prone position. "Addict shit like you can't help but come back. You gonna run away again? Kill me again?" Trevor took a cautious step back, it only made Michael laugh as his head laid back down. "Off you go!" Michael shouted as Trevor stumbled, fell, scrambled away from him. "Run motherfucker!" His voice was right in his ear as Trevor burst out of the crack house he'd found himself in. He fell to the snow that had captured the whole of the Midwest for the season.
"I'll prove you wrong!" Trevor screamed, voice cracking as he shook from the whole thing. "I'll never touch the stuff Mikey! I promise! I fucking promise!"
But he broke that promise.
