Chapter Text

After the gatehouse was destroyed, Alison and Mike struggled to figure out how to move forward. They didn’t have anything worth selling, no weddings had come up or any events, just nothing.

The ghosts tried to help.  Thomas suggested a poetry night, Kitty thought of dance classes, Alison was definitely not agreeing with any options that Julian had, But Alison  was appreciating the help.

One morning a letter came in and Alison and Mike were shocked to see that it was from an events organiser, they asked if they could rent the land of Button house for a 1940s weekend festival and offered five thousand pounds for the weekend!

Alison and Mike did not hesitate and immediately contacted them back and for the next month, Alison and Mike has been busy planning and organising, of course Alison had to tell the ghosts about the new plan, they were confused at first but when Alison explained what the event was about and the excitement was felt by all, all except for Fanny who didn't like the idea of people and their sale tents being on the lawn and Thomas asking why wouldn't they do one about the Regancy period, and as for the captain, well, he seemed pleased that there would be a event that would be based in his time and he was definitely looking forward to seeing all the army vehicle and other war stuff.

                                  ~

When the day of the 1940s weekend came there was all sorts of things going on, tent stalls were selling food or items, music from the 1940s was playing and not to mention everyone dressed up for the period of the time. Even the soldier which the captain was making some  comments on, Alison even decided to dress up for the day with a vintage dress she found in one of the old local shop she went to in the village, and there was all the army stuff at the event as well.

Alison and Mike of course still did there own work, outside they had a table for the workers could come and sign in, they also had coffee or tea and any food to offer to anyone. They even got Nick to come by and help, they kept in contact with him and Nick had been working on getting back on his feet and he was more then happy to do some cooking for the event.

Mike mostly stayed at their table, but Alison would go around making sure everything was going well. She would normally remind the ghosts to be on their best behaviour but they were all off looking at everything and seemed to be  having fun so she just left them to it.

The captain was mostly with Alison, which was a bit strange since she thought he would be the one going round all over the place, but as always the captain was helping out with the event and making sure everything was going well. But Alison did not miss the small smile on his face, being very fond of seeing things that is very familiar to him Alison couldn't  help but feel that the captain was back home in a way, as long as he was enjoying himself.

They just had been going around each stall asking if everything was alright or if they need anything, but then something caught the captain eye and rushed to go look at it, Alison didn't follow she let him go and see whatever got his attention, Alison continued to check on the other stall owners and went to the one nearest to her.

This stall seller was a man named Rob, he was in his sixties and he had been going to these kind of events for years. The thing about Rob was that he had been collecting stuff from both  wars one and two since he was young, it was a hobby for him and he would manage to sell them to a museum or an event such as this. Alison and Mike had already met him and he was a nice man to talk to and he had told them about his collections so Alison was quite interested to see what he had at his stall.

"Hi Rob, everything alright" Alison greeted him

"Aw, Alison nice to see you here, yes everything good thank you"  Rob said fondly, Alison stepped closer to have a better look at all the items he had on his table. His table had some ww2 helmets, medals or some old equipment that a soldier probably had on him at one point.

"I'm liking the look of all of this" Alison said very interested of the history that was on the table.

"aw yes I'm hoping to make a pretty good sale on these this week" Rob told her

" oh I'm sure you will, is there anything you need or..." Alison asked

"Actually I was just hoping to go get a coffee, you wouldn't mind watching my stall while I go do that would you?"

Alison definitely agreed to help "oh, no of course not, you go and do that. Mike is actually selling it at the house so you can meet him there" she offered.

Rob thanked her and said he won't be long and went off. Alison stayed at the stall and just took a look around at her surroundings and then, Alison saw a man standing on the side of the tent stall. He was in a uniform he must be one of the men dress as a ww2 solider she thought, but the man looked.....lost?

He had this blank expression on his face but he looked distant, there was just something sad about him,  the man was looking at the direction of the house completely focused on it. Alison walked up next to him "hey, is everything alright" she ask

No response, did he even hear her?

"Hey, excuse me" Alison tried again. politely this time the man looked at her, his face was fully facing her he looked to be in his early forties maybe,  he had brown hair and brown eyes and he looked tired and not to mention the scar he had on the side of his face across his eye, was that real?

"Are you alright" Alison asked again calmly

The man eyes widen with both shock and confusion, he looked round at his surroundings to see if anyone was stood near them. He realised she was talking him.

"Can.... can you see me?" The man asked Alison.
