In trail and in death // Danny "Jed Olsen" Johnson and Reader

Summary:

The Entity rewards those who do well in trials and success in pleasing it.

Danny has a hard time figuring out if his is supposed to be a blessing, a curse, or a mockery.

You weren't supposed to be here, not now, not ever.
Not on their side.
Not faced against him as the enemy.

OR
You and your missing boyfriend meet in the fog

Notes:

TW: Blood, Gore, etc. Danny is probably majorly out of character but I'm in need for a protective and caring Ghosite so deal with it.

Work Text:

The fog surrounded him like a veil, coating him in it's deadly claws as he waited for the next trial to start.

It was a feeling he would never get used to.

Being send to a trial or any place in this god forsaken place felt foreign and weird. He had the feeling of feeling everything and nothing at the same time, his senses gone yet picking up everything around him.

It was confusing, to say the least.

A small sigh escaped him through his mask as his feet came in touch with solid ground again, and the first thing he was made aware of was that it was cold, followed by the crunching and sinking feeling of snow beneath his dark boots.

Ormond.

Danny let out a tsk-ed noise of annoyance. His dark robe stood out like a sore thumb against the whites and greys of this realm, making it easier for those pesky survivors to spot him if he wasn't careful enough.

Once the fog lifted completely, he found himself standing in the midst of the killer shack, the stairs to be basement behind him, and a generator to the left of him.

He hummed, as if aknowledging the old thing, like it would respond something in return, before letting his gaze wander to the door on his right, listening.

*crunch*, *crunch*, *crunch*.

A small smile stretched across the stalkers lips, hidden behind the white plastic of his mask. How fortunate.

"Shit, shit, shit-"

"Dwight!"

You whispered in an urgent voice, silencing him, your hands trying to keep steady as you worked away on the third generator with the nervous brunette to your left.

Your hairs were standing up, adrenaline pumping through your veins, determined to get this generator up and running at all cost.
The trial so far had been a disaster. Both Feng and Jake were on death hook, both injured and running for their lives trying to keep the killer away from you and Dwight, who had been hooked once, and by now healed up by you. At your question to who it was all he had said was a panicked "S-stealth" before diving for the Generator and thus ignoring any further questions from you.

You suspected it was Michael, but you weren't too sure on it. You were fairly new to the realm, not having gone up against most of the killers yet, and usually it was Jake who would inform you on what to look out for once he figured out who you were up against, but said Jake was currently trying to not get hooked like a fish, so all you could do was stay alert and keep your eyes open.

Just as the Generator popped to life, the pained howl of Feng tore through the cold air of the realm. Oromond was it's name if you remembered correctly.

You looked towards the direction the scream came from, cursing.

"I'll go get her, you find Jake."

You instructed Dwight, running off before he could respond.
You made your way towards the main building.

You were neither injured nor have you been hooked, so you would be able to take a hit without problem. Your feet carried you to the shattered wall of the building, next to the construction machine, and immediately you could hear running upstairs.

You easily spotted Feng with her purple hair and white mask and the vibrant, pink colored cropp jacket, and she was making a beeline for the window behind the pallet.

Without thinking, you made your way through the lobby of the building, out the door and aimed for the spot in which she, and hopefully the Killer, would land.

"Keep running!"

You yelled, running like you've never run before, heart thumping in your chest as Feng dropped down in front of you, and you had just enough time to give her boosting push, taking her spot, before the weight of a second body came crashing down onto you, forcing you to the cold, snow covered ground, and you heard a muffled grunt above you.

Before you could react, a strong hand was grabbing your hair, yanking your head back forcefully as you yelped in pain.

"Get off me-!"

"You got some fucking nerve I will give you that-"

You and the killer said in unision while you struggled to get him off your back. God was he heavy. Eventually you managed to jab your ellbow into his ribcage behind you, and his grip lessened just enough for you to turn your upper body around so you could face whoever was after your blood this trial, ready to throw insults and curses at their head when you and him both froze the second you came face to face with each other.

Everything went eerily quiet, like the realm and maybe the entity itself was holding their breath.

Your eyes were blown wide as you stared at the ghost shaped mask mere inches away from your own face, your mind blank in shock and disbelief, frozen in time, as if someone had pressed the pause button on a movie.

You blinked, and even tho you couldn't see it, he had the same expression of shock on his face, with a dawning of horror mixed into his eyes.

The two of you remained like this, with him sitting on your thighs, knife slipped and long forgotten on the snowy ground, neither of you daring to move, staring at each other.

It must have been a few seconds, but it felt like an eternity.

"Dann-"

"Y/N!"

"GET OFF HER YOU SICK FUCK-!"

Before either of you knew it, Jake came barreling into the masked Killer, succesfully pushing him off of you as Feng hurled you up to your feet, and it was then your mind came back into function.

"Wh- WAIT! Jake! No, get off him!"

You called out, wriggeling out of Fengs grip on your arms and rushing to the two man fighting on the ground, ready to intervene, but the masked Killer beat you to it, shoving the brunette off him with practieced ease by shoving his feet into his guts, sending him into a pile of snow next to him.

"Y/n what the fuck are you doing!?"

Feng called out in horror as she watched the man who had been chasing after her with a knife moments ago rush to his feet.

Jake struggled to get out of the pile of snow, both survivors confused and equally terrified as they watched the killer come to a stop right in front of you.

You could feel yourself trembling, wether it was because of the cold or the feeling of disbelief and shock, you didn't know as you looked up into the mask that was seeming to stare right into your soul.

"Danny..?"

You asked in a quiet voice, not able to hide the quivering tone in it, feeling like you were going to break into tears when the masked man in front of you lunged forwards, both Feng and Jake exclaiming curses, fearing the worst, but stunned into silence when the taller killer engulfed you in a bone-crushing hug, clinging onto you like his life would depend on it.

"Y/n!"

At the sound of your name coming out of his mouth, you officially lost it, tears streaming down your face as you wrapped your hand tightly around his neck, pulling him as close as you could as your whole body shook, and his followed right behind.

"oh my-, fucking-, where were you!?!"

You cried, not caring about how your voice pitched up in tone and how it cracked at the end, a sob shaking your whole body as you felt him pressing himself against you even more.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry-"

He responded, muttering the words rapidly over and over into your hair and you realized he was crying too. He leaned back so he was able to look at your face, before taking his mask off in one swipe, and you cried harder when you saw his tear stricken face as he gently cupped your face, those dark colored eyes looking at you as if you were the key to the end of his misery and suffering.

"I tried to get back, fuck I swear I tried y/n, you gotta- fuck!"

He cursed, words getting stuck in his throat and he swallowed hard, letting out a shaky breath as he studied your face as if he were seeing it for the first and last time, and then your hand, that gentle hand, came up to cup his face, your touch as gentle and soothing as he remembered and better at the same time, and then you carefully wiped away his tear and ooooh- fuck how he'd missed your touch-

"Can someone explain what the fuck is going on??"

Fuck. He forgot about the other idiots.

"Watch it, hook meat."

He warned, a dangerous glint in his eyes as his arms tightened their embrace around you as he put the competitive gamer in her place, his voice close to a growl. It sent pleasant shivers down your spine, but now was not the time for that.

"It's alright, let me handle it."

You said as you turned his head back to look at you with your hands, and he let out a small huff of pouting complaiance, instead opting to burrying his face in the crook of your neck, inhaling every bit of you as you combed your fingers through the wild undercut on his head and you swore you heard him purr.

"He's my boyfriend, you know, the one I told you guys that went missing? Well...that's him. We had just moved away from Roseville when he didn't return one summer evening, I've been on the look out for him for a year and a half before the Entity took me."

There was no point in surgacoating anything, so you layed it on them straight, and in return were met with a mix of confusion, distrust, and disbelief.

"Yeah but you never once mentioned your boyfriend to be a cold blodded serial killer!"

Feng exclaimed accusingly, Jake standing next to her, looking torn, and Dwight -when did he get here?- looked like he'd rather melt into the ground.

"Excuse me I only killed assholes thank you very much, don't lump me in with the other bunch."

Danny voiced in what you know was false hurt, looking outraged as he looked up from your shoulder to glare at Feng Min, who looked even more speechless.

"But you-"

"Are you honestly gonna look me dead in the eyes and tell me you don't think we don't get punished if we perform poorly? You lot aren't the only one's fighting to survive, pigtails."

"You still killed people before coming here!"

If not for your tight grip on his robes, Danny would have pounced on the snarky gamer and cut her tounge out with one clean swipe of his knife.

"Oh pardon me, you rather I'd have let the pedophile's, rapists and abusive assholes roam free?"

His eyes had a dangerous glint in them, a look that said 'I dare you to say another word and see what happens'.
