Chapter Text
You had fallen head over heals for the vampire. It's not hard to tell, anyone in camp can tell that you where absolutely smitten with the pale elven man.
You comforted him at his worse. When nightmare flittered behind his eyes and his ghosts haunted his slumbering moments.
You were his shield for his waking moments. Hiding him from his enemies, taking hits that would be the end for him. You bled more just from keeping him on his feet than from him feeding from you.
He had asked if you wanted to share a night together. Your heart could barely contain your happiness. You wanted nothing more than to love him. To show him how you cared for every part of him. Scars, sorrows, fears, all of it. You wanted him to know how much you would give for him.
Yet maybe that was your downfall. His cold laugh pulls you back to the moment at hand.
You had asked if everything was okay as he hadn't asked for another night between the two of you. The answer you got was nothing less than a cold hand taking the heart from you for it to destroy in front of your very eyes.
"Perhaps you got the wrong idea", his voice was jovial but you could hear the coldness to it. "I never sought you out for pleasure alone. Couldn't you tell?" Your eye brows crease as you listen to his words. He sighed, the hint of annoyance curled in your ears.
"You got to enjoy my world-ending beautiful self. And I" his motions are as fluid as a dance, your eyes never leaving him. Your mind turning over each word he threw at you like a dagger.
"Well, I get to have someone to defend me from Cazador." His smile was sharp, a look of indifference in his face.
It hurt. That was for sure. Your gaze found his. His gaze alone breaking your heart further. He held no love in them for you as your's held for him. Even if you could falsely reason with yourself that his gaze wasn't what truth was telling you-
"And honestly... I don't think your services are worth the cost."
-his next words would solidify the fate you wished to be blind to.
Your gaze breaks from his.
"That hurts to hear...." You could barely hear your voice.
He chuckles coldly, "Well dear... At least look at it this way! Your the first to walk away alive!"
You couldn't respond any further, your eyes cast downward as you watch his boots disappear along with his honeyed voice.
Shock had kept the full effect of your heartbreak at bay for only as long as the conversation ahead lasted.
Drops fell into the dirt below, land ling by the last remaining pair of boots. Your tears ran from your eyes as you stared at the discoloring dirt. Your lungs burned from your lack of breathing, your fist clenched at the fabric over your heart.
Distant conversations hit your ears yet your mind couldn't care to decipher the voices of your companions. Nor could you hear their words as they disappeared in the distance as you ran away from the source without as much as a goodbye.
