Chapter 1: Margot's Perpsective

Chapter Text

Margot didn’t know when all of this mess shifted from being fine and dandy to a downright fucked up mess. Now she suddenly has to deal with the concept of her mother being a murderer. Not just her mother, but all of her friend’s parents. She supposed she could deal with her father being a cheater, but by god this was so much worse. She felt like she could do anything now, and her parent’s couldn’t say shit.

She was friends with Harold Biddle. Her mother was involved in his burning alive.

Was that why she moved away? Why had she left her and her father in the first place.. She really left her family for a job opportunity? She never really knew her mother, did she. It just felt like complete and utter betrayal. This means her AND her friend’s parents are responsible for the hell their kids are going through. Biddle’s ghost had come back for revenge- or something….something like that.

All of this was just, really messy and frustrating. It made no sense that all of their parents(but Nora) were hiding this from their children. Especially now that they were in danger.

Well- actually, Margot took that thought back. It did make sense why their parents didn’t tell their kids. Maybe they just imagined all of their teenage mistakes would go away. That what happened in the past would just remain there and they’d have no problems.

Sadly that very badly wasn’t the case. No, no their kids were being harmed from this. Isaiah broke his arm and James starved for a week!

This was so much, and they needed to hold onto each other for dear life or else one of them is going to get whirled so far off course they might never be able to come back.

So much has changed in the past few weeks. It felt like centuries worth of experiences and emotions had gone by, and yet she was still the same 16 year old girl who had to struggle her way through high school despite the threat of actual death. It haunted her.

*Buzz*

Her phone lit up and snapped her out of her trance. It was from Isaiah.

Hey. I’m guessing we all have something to discuss since Wednesday, I’m sleeping over at James’ this weekend and so is Isabella, you should join us.

She nodded to herself and started tapping away.

Sure. Lucas, too?

Sure, whatever’s fine.

She sent a thumb’s up and slid off her plush bed slowly. She tossed some nice pajamas in her backpack along with clothes for the next day and walked out of her room, closing the door behind her, but not latching it.

She walked slowly through her house, trying not to think about this week's troubles. Just go talk to Lucas.

Her socked footsteps hitting the soft carpet was the only sound other than her heartbeat that she could hear. She wondered where her parents were..

She knocked at Lucas’s door when she arrived.

“Come in” He responded, softly.

She walked inside to see him, laying on the bed, on his phone. Not unlike a drone.

“Hey, so if you want to,” she paused briefly, “we’re all having a sleepover tonight into tomorrow. Do you want to come?”

“We all as in..”

“Yes,” She told him. “Yes, all of us. At James’ house.”

“Ah. Yeah, I’ll come along. If we can take the scenic route there?” He asked her, while smiling pleasantly.

Margot found herself smiling, a pink heat rising to her cheeks.

“Yeah.. Yes we can take the scenic route.” She nodded. “Let’s leave in 20. Is that alright?”

“Yeah.” Lucas said, “That’s fine.”

Margot smiled at him and left the room with a small *click*.

She smiled to herself and went back to her room to make sure she had everything that she needed.

After making sure she was all ready to go, she sent her father a text.

Lucas and I are sleeping over at a friend’s place.

She thought for a moment if she needed to say anything else but just decided to leave it
where it was.

Okay, sweetie. Have fun.

She closed her eyes and pretended everything was actually fine, and she was just going to have fun with her best friends.

Then Lucas came up from the basement, backpack on his shoulders. A cold, but not unhappy expression on his face.

Margot sighed.

She assumed things were really tough for him, after finding out his father had committed suicide and then his mother getting put in a psych ward. It wasn’t like she was crazy, she had just told the truth.

It was all really wrong, truly. Nora didn’t deserve any of that, and it was horrible for Lucas, Margot was sure it was. He had lost his father to mental health problems, he couldn’t lose his mother.

Not that she was actually crazy, but maybe she thought so, since it was all she was being told.

“Are you ready to go?” Lucas asked her, an odd expression on his face.

Margot shook her distracted head and looked at him warmly, heat rising to her cheeks again. “Yeah, yes, I'm ready, let’s go.” She said.

Lucas nodded at her and they headed out the door.

James’s house really wasn't that far from Margot’s. Their town was small of course. However, considering the fact that Margot and Lucas were taking a long way around, it made sense they left at the time they did. Especially since they didn’t want to be in a hurry or anything.

They walked calmly along the sidewalk, Margot breathed deeply and slipped her hand in Lucas’s.

It wasn’t wrong for them to like each other this way, was it? They weren’t step siblings. Their parents had cheated. Her father was still married to her mother, they had no actual relation other than their parent’s infidelity.

Boy did they get distracted on their way. *cough*

Margot tried to calm her heartbeat and flushed face as they neared James’s huge house.
She heard Lucas chuckle at her, and looked at his smile. She pushed his shoulder a little bit, but it was really more of a pat.

In seconds they were at the front door, Lucas’s hand on the door knob.
