Wonder Who this Rain is Falling for

Summary:

Who knew making out in the rain had consequences?

Notes:

Sorry I haven't been posting as much. I wasn't doing too well, but I'm feeling better now! Have some Pegoryu fluff to cheer us all up.

Today's prompt is the flufftober prompt: "rainy day". This is also loosely based on some prompt I saw a bit ago.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

“See, ain’t this fun!” Ryuji’s voice broke the silence of the night.

“You could say that,” Ren responded.

Ren and Ryuji had been relaxing for a while now, all cuddled up together despite the warmth of the summer night. With the discovery of Shibuya’s, and possibly Sendai’s, jail, the start of their summer had been quite busy. Ren and Ryuji barely had a second to catch up with each other, let alone sit down and relax like this.

But after months apart, they were finally alone together. They still had a long summer ahead of them, and Ren planned on enjoying every second with Ryuji. The two sat in the grass outside the camper van, with Ryuji resting his head in Ren’s lap, while Ren played with the tips of his hair.

“I know. I never woulda thought I’d be spendin’ my time stargazing.” Ryuji picked at the grass below him. “Don’t you wanna do this every night?”

If Ryuji wasn’t laying in his lap, Ren would kiss that sweet smile off his face. It was so contagious, just like the rest of his happiness. “Whenever we have free time, I’ll make sure we do this all summer!”

Ryuji perked up, leaving Ren’s lap feeling empty. “For real, man? You’re the best!” He sat up and gave Ren a small peck on the lips, granting his wish from earlier.

“Oh, I know I am,” Ren giggled before returning the gesture, caressing Ryuji’s cheeks as their lips met. He savored the way Ryuji sighed, smiling into the kiss like he’d also been waiting for this. And when their lips parted, they immediately went back for more, making what lasted a few seconds feel like an eternity.

“Damn!” Ryuji huffed when they pulled away. “Looks like someone’s been practicing their kissin’ skills this year.”

Ren just playfully shoved Ryuji, blushing a little at that comment. Even if it was dark outside, Ren knew his dork of a boyfriend was just as flustered.

“Think we should head back to the tent?” Ryuji’s arm wrapped around Ren’s waist, making him swoon. “bet Yusuke’s waitin’ for us.”

“I think…” Ren’s fingers brushed against Ryuji’s jawline, like static against his fingers. “...Yusuke can wait.”

With starry eyes gazing into Ren’s, Ryuji’s smile faded into a grin. “Oh yeah? What are you plannin’?”

“What? Nothing! I just want to spend more time with my boyfriend, that’s all...” Ren was being mostly genuine, though he’d be lying if he said the smirk on his face didn’t hide an ulterior motive.

“Right, right, gotcha!” Ryuji leaned to kiss Ren once more. Kissing Ryuji under the stars was like something out of a fairytale. It was as if he had Ren under some sort of spell that he didn’t want to break from. Or maybe it was just love; so much love and passion that Ryuji pressed into every kiss. Whatever it was, Ryuji never failed to ignite this flame inside of Ren that burned when they got close.

Of course, every flame needs a little water to fizzle out.

Caught in the heat of the moment, Ren didn’t even acknowledge the first droplet. Or the second…Or the third. There was a faint smell of rain lingering in the air, but Ryuji’s cologne overshadowed Ren’s senses. So they continued, ignoring the light pitter patter of rain hitting the ground. In fact, the two giggled into every kiss that followed.

But as if God himself was trying to grab their attention, the rain started pouring. Ren and Ryuji shuddered against each other, their lips separating and Ren’s glasses becoming even more useless.

So much for the romantic moment. Now, Ren was used to getting a little wet while kissing Ryuji, but it was nothing like this…

Shaking off that thought, Ren placed his glasses into his pocket, “I guess we should head back then..” He said despite staying planted right where he was. Ren was growing a little uncomfortable, but he didn’t want to lose this moment. Besides, Ryuji provided enough comfort.

“Nah, we’re fine. A little rain never hurt nobody.” Ryuji was already pulling Ren in for another kiss, to which he eagerly reciprocated. Any other time, Ren’s reasonability would’ve put an end to this. He loved the rain, he just preferred it when he was safe indoors. But something about Ryuji’s wet lips against his, the rain barely cooling down the heat between them, it all took over Ren’s inhibitions. They’d never done anything like this before; Ren had never felt so alive.

Ren clutched Ryuji’s soaked t-shirt, deepening their kiss. The rain only made them sloppier, adding to the swirling of Ren’s mind. By now their bodies pressed against each other, Ryuji’s hands wrapped all around Ren, his fingers tangled in his damp curls. Even when they pulled away, they sat panting in each other’s mouths, breathless, yet craving each other more. The rain didn’t plan on stopping and neither did they.

Suddenly, Ren was almost lying in the wet grass, while Ryuji lay beside him, nearly on top of him. In their frantic state, Ren couldn’t tell if Ryuji had pushed him or if he pulled Ryuji, but that didn’t matter as their lips moved faster than their minds. Ren was certainly pulling Ryuji now, yanking at his t-shirt like they couldn’t get close enough. Energy coursed between them like lightning, anymore and Ren felt he might burst.

Ren’s mind swirled with nothing but Ryuji. His soaked t-shirt clinging onto his body, his fingertips brushing down Ren’s side, Ryuji’s hands slipping past Ren’s belt, his fingers slowly sliding down his…

“Ryuji!” Ren gasped.

“Relax, Renren, we’re already wet.” Ryuji chuckled, his breath hot against Ren’s lips. “No point in worryin’ bout anything now!”

Why is Ryuji the way that he is? And why did Ren fall for him every time?

It became hard to focus after that. Their lips met again and Ryuji continued doing everything so right. The rain never let up, leaving Ren and Ryuji to get lost in each other within the storm.

“It’s about time you two showed yourselves.” Yusuke remarked when Ren and Ryuji entered the tent. Though he didn’t seem too happy to see them. Morgana was in there relaxing too, groaning when the couple entered. Sophia seemed content, though.

Yusuke’s eyes went wide as he yanked his sketchbook away. “At least dry off before you enter!”

“There ain’t nowhere to dry off, now scoot over!” Ryuji forced himself into the tent with his dripping clothes.

“Next time, can you freaks be a little quieter? I never wanna hear any of that again!” Morgana huffed, shuffling away from Ryuji like a cat scared of a bath. “And maybe try not to get soaking wet!”

Ren just sat at the top of the van’s ladder, letting his cheeks warm up and the rain cascade over him.

“Sorry about that.”

It was only drizzling the next morning. At least that’s what the quiet drops against the tent roof told Ren. Though, the tent was empty except for Ren and the lump of blankets he called his boyfriend. There was a smell of food in the air, meaning the thieves probably had to fend for themselves for breakfast…Lunch? Ren had assumed it was morning, but what time was it even?

God, did Ren feel awful the moment his eyes fluttered open. He expected the first night in the tent to be hot and sweaty, yet he and Ryuji shivered in each other's arms the whole time. It didn’t help that they were both still soggy from their romantic rainy night. At some point, Ren just gave up on trying to get enough sleep.

Before Ren could ponder his life choices, he let out an obnoxious sneeze that startled himself and the pile of blankets next to him.

“...Not you too, man...” Ryuji groaned from under the blankets. Even under there, Ryuji sounded stuffy and miserable. “Whose…idea was it to hang out in the rain?”

“Yours.”

“For real..? Why do you even go along with anything I say?” Ryuji popped up from under the covers, his eyes and nose red. Those sick puppy-dog eyes played with Ren’s heart, despite them being the result of their combined stupidity.

A blip from Sophia caught their attention. “If my analysis is correct, you two have caught a cold. It’s best to stay warm and get some rest.”

“A cold, huh?...Great, thanks a lot Ren.” Ryuji laughed despite looking horrible a second ago.

Ren wasn’t in the mood to charge back with a witty remark. He just tried snuggling under the blankets that Ryuji was hogging. And he let him, the warmth of the blanket and Ryuji’s embrace soothing Ren’s aching body. Their clothes were still damp, but it wasn’t as awful compared to last night.

“Man, summer just started and we’re already effin’ sick.” For someone who was sick, Ryuji sure could keep talking. Resting his head against Ren’s, he sighed, “...Talk about bad luck.”

“For another night like that,” Ren sniffed and smiled, closing his eyes and letting the warmth surround him, “I’d do it all over again…”

Notes:

Fun fact: Ren and rain are very easy words to get mixed up.
