A battle had just ended against Paradis Island once again, Paradis was now constantly at war now that the Beast Titan had declared it, their commander was still well alive and planning out their next move. It hasn't even been five minutes since their fourth war to take back the island ended when he was already thinking about what to do, that's how Erwin was, always thinking about their next move before giving himself grieving time. He never took the time to mourn for his fallen comrades but at the same time that's all he could ever think of, thinking about how his soldier's names wouldn't be forgotten and how their sacrifice made a difference in this world, how their deaths weren't for nothing and that they got them one step closer to freedom. That's why Erwin would overwork himself day and night so they could get their jobs done so none of this death was for nothing. Erwin sighed slightly trying to stay in thought, trying not to take in the scent of the fresh dead bodies and severed limbs filling up the carts behind him, the putrid smell of the still fresh blood mixing in with the old, as the back of their carts were stained red from all of the fresh parts still pouring. Not to mention the grotesque smell of the fecal matter that escaped from the whole bodies, it's like he could never escape the smell, he was engrossed in it every day and it felt like it lingered with him even when he was home and alone. He tried his best to convince himself he was desensitized by it by keeping a cool and cold composure and only helping the families, all they might have been his soldiers, but they weren't his flesh and blood, so why cry over the losses when they were only doing was what they were commanded? He was the one who sent every single one of them out for the grasp of death so what right should he have to cry over his fallen? Guilt was one word he couldn't explain, yes he felt guilty for letting these children die leaving behind their families, but on the other hand, he wasn't going to feel guilty for making them do their job. Their job is to sacrifice themselves for the greater good of their world, to restore freedom for their people, and that means dying, giving up everything you've ever loved for the people your serving for, when you are a scout you have obligated yourself to any suicide mission commanded, that's just the way it is. Erwin was stuck in thought, one thought more depressing than the other, but he was soon snapped out of it when he heard a familiar voice start at him "..we're nearly back Erwin, I trust you won't just throw together a shit plan for next time" the cold voice said, staying forward on his horse,

But this was Levi's squad we're talking about, they would have fought till they were dead and they did, they understood the risks their work takes and they would do anything to succeed in the goal needed.
Erwin never took Levi's words personally but today's mission was a mess. He should be degraded for the tragedy that happened today. So many of his men died and they had to fall back almost immediately, he wasn't sure how he was going to recover from this loss. It wasn't long till they were out of the screaming crowd and safely back at corp, Erwin told his remaining soldiers to go home and rest up seeing as they would be back in battle shortly, everyone usually gets weeks before they would go out for battle, but seeing the severity of the situations they barely got days, which was causing soldiers to go mad or end up quitting. He'd almost died before due to a Titan, one that completely took off his left arm, only leaving him with his right, but this was different, the feeling of giant rocks flying past him just to hit another soldier was chilling. He felt bad for the lives he had brutally sacrificed for the selfish dream he had, but it had to be done, he was going to get to that basement by any means necessary. They struggled so hard just to get to that god-forsaken basement, everything they tried led to more lives being thrown out, almost enough to have the scouts disbanded, but the situation was far too bad now that just had to recruit any rookie nowadays just to make their scout numbers meet regulations for battle, god this was a mess all over, just like Erwin's mind. He soon came back to reality from all this overstimulating and overwhelming overthinking he was doing. He stared down at the paperwork on his desk holding his head with the hand he still had, the arm of it resting on his desk. He let out a hefty sigh before he heard a knock at his door, completely forgetting how late it was so he was confused but relieved that someone was here to talk him out of his depressive mindset. “Come in” he said firmly, sitting up tall, a little surprised to see Levi, Levi would rarely knock on his door, usually he would walk straight in so this came as a surprise “oh uh yes Levi?” he said as his posture seemed to relax “you said we would talk privately later, this is later.
