Chapter Text

Chapter 1:

—------------------------------—-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the hushed corners of your world, it was brimming with promises, where love’s delicate dances captivated you like a moth to a flame. Now your soul intertwined with Ghost’s, trapped in a bittersweet tale…

Your once-woven souls are now unraveling, the threads of trust that built your relationship slowly being torn away. Unfurling and fraying within the storm of deceit that consumed you both.

—----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The clock struck midnight.

There was a soft rhythmic ticking noise emanating from the traditional painted clock face. Each tick, each tock, almost seemed to capture of the essence of time itself. Almost as if it was a heartbeat, resonating with you're very soul, a poignant reminder to you of the inexorable march of time.

12:03a.m

The pale and ghastly moonlight peaked through the dark blinds shining directly onto your eyelids. They fluttered open instinctively. Your vision blurry with sleep as you rubbed your eyes, turning over onto your side as you reached for your fiance, Ghost.

Only the cold empty sheets met your slender hand. Confusion gripped your sleepy mind, as you realized Ghost wasn’t there. Forcing your eyes open, you took in the darkness of the room, which was all-consuming. Your hand grasped at the empty navy sheets, as your eyes darted across the bed.

The soft pale moonlight illuminates the emptiness of the room, the engagement ring’s silver metal glimmered against your skin in the ghostly light…

Realization quickly set in; Ghost was nowhere to be found.

You were all alone.

“Ghost?”

Your voice called out into the empty room. Your heart thumped in your chest, slowly increasing in pace as you grew more anxious. The soft hold of sleep slowly releases when you reach for your phone. The sudden bright blue light was blinding in comparison to the dark room. Forcing you to squint until your eyes adjust slowly to the brightness.

You checked your notifications…

Nothing

Not a single word….

Unease settled within you like an unwelcome guest. The blue light from your phone illuminates your face. Each passing minute was greeted with a growing chill of worry. It wasn’t unusual for Ghost to get home late, but usually, he would at least say something. But there was nothing. Not a single message…

The last text was from you;

 “I love you”

was what it said.

12:20 am

Anxiety wrapped its tendrils around your heart, tightening with every passing second. Squeezing your aching soul. Sleep was a distant memory, eclipsed by the haunting questions of your racing mind: Where is he? Is he okay? Why didn’t he text me? Why isn’t he home?

1:30 am

The stillness of the night was interrupted by the soft creak of the front door. Usually a welcomed sound, but now it sends chills down your spine. The soft heavy thuds of his footsteps echoed throughout the empty home. Your eyes darted to the bedroom door. The anxious pounding of your heart steadily increased. The rhythmic pounding against your ribs echoed in your ears. Swiftly you placed your phone back onto the bedside table, thoughts racing through your mind as you curled under the black blankets. The warmth waning your bones barely doing anything to help resolve the ever-growing anxiety and paranoia that clawed at your heart.

Darkness consumed your vision as you shut your eyelids, forcing yourself to pretend to be asleep as the bedroom door creaked open.  Straining your ears you listened to Ghost enter the bedroom. The soft thud of his boots hitting the floor, as his clothes rustled quietly. Grunting softly, while shifting the covers making room for himself to slip underneath the cold blankets. The bed creaked quietly, the mattress dipping slightly to accommodate for his weight while he slipped underneath the sheets. He shifted slowly, methodically, careful not to disturb you. His strong arms wrapped around you, pulling you close, while his chest rose and fell with a gentle rhythm against your back. A feeling and sensation that you enjoyed. It used to ease your aching, anxious heart. The sense of security, the love you thought it warranted….

But something was different this time… Something you couldn’t quite put your finger on until it hit you…
