Work Text:
This was my second time getting to do the art for one of loversantiquities' stories and it was an absolute delight, once again! With so many different environments and landscapes described in the story I couldn't wait to try to capture them in full color (and yes, go as wild as I could with the color at times, too!)
I was also working on the art for this while recovering from an unexpected health crisis - nothing like having a heart attack right after Christmas! - so I had a lot of extra time at home to do nothing but paint. Oh, the hardship!
I love trying different techniques for angel wings. For this piece I wanted them to look beautifully restored and translucent. I used watercolor gesso to build up the texture and various color-shift/iridescent paints to give them a glow.
This piece was meant to represent the sunrise view from the skylight of Cas's camper van, from Cas's "point of view".
Cas's dream/vision was the first piece I knew I had to paint from the story, with the aurora borealis behind the Joshua trees, with Dean just emerging in the distance. (Yay for Tiny!Dean! I tried to get his bow leg stance even in miniature detail...)
Dean and Cas's reunion on the Florida beach. I know Cas looks a bit more weathered and 🥺 here than the dream piece but they are having a bit of a difficult moment. I wanted Dean to have a post-hunting look with longer hair and light beard.
If you haven't yet, do yourself a favor and read the beautiful story!
