Chapter Text
Jaune wasn’t sure what happened. He was human. Pure human. Yet, he ended up in a dorm room with a monster girl. Yeah, he still couldn’t exactly wrap his mind around it either. He knew they existed, but that’s completely different than actually seeing one in person. In Ansel, there weren’t any monster girls, well, not that he’d know anything about that (Jaune was practically isolated back home), so why on Remnant would they put HIM in a room with one? He quickly flipped open his guide to Beacon University and its chapter on student demographics. There was an entire paragraph describing monster girls.
Beacon is proud to welcome students of all species and declare that our campus is completely integrated in regards to human and monster relations. For our human student(s), we have attached a brief history of monster girls. To put it simply, monster girls are simply people who have been born with certain traits. There are male monsters as well, but for whatever reason, none of them have pursued a career in higher education. We eagerly look forward to that day, but until then, we are proud to be the first university open to monster girl students. Monsters first came about after the destruction of the Grimm 2100 years ago at the hands of Ozma the Blessed and Julius the Strong. The subsequent wave of energy that passed over the world created mutations which gave rise to monsters. Faunus and monsters became synonymous in such a world as the traits and enhanced senses a Faunus had were amplified by the raw power that monsters had. After a century of fighting, a coalition spearheaded by Julius’ son August brokered a tentative peace between the two races. Beacon welcomes all students here for the 2000th anniversary of the peace accords.
‘Again, why am I a student with a monster girl?’ Jaune thought as he looked through the book but couldn’t find anything. He spent so long looking, that he was caught by surprise when a golden tail wrapped around his guide and took it from him before circling around his waist and drawing him in. ‘L-Lamia?’ Jaune thought as he saw the large snake-like woman inside their room.
“You must be Jaune!” She smiled broadly as she drew him closer to her. “You know, I’m half-human myself, so I was feeling a little lonely. Turns out, you’re the only human on campus! Who would’ve thought?” Jaune gulped at that, at least the lamia seemed friendly. “Oh, sorry about this.” She set him down and uncoiled her tail from around him. She lowered herself down, somehow retracting her tail into her a bit. It was honestly fascinating; Jaune had always liked biology and medicine… “I’m Yang, by the way.” She smiled at him. “And don’t worry about the other girls here, I’ll take good care of you.” She smiled as she draped a powerful arm over his shoulders. “Not like that though! I don’t mean to assume that you can’t handle yourself or anything; it’s just, I heard you don’t have much experience with monsters, so I was offering to help you out.”
Jaune smiled. “I’d appreciate that a lot, Yang.” He looked around the room, which was quite large, probably out of necessity. There was a ramp that led up to the sole king size bed against the wall. “Um, there’s only one bed?” Yang looked abashed at that, some of the golden scales on her cheeks contrasting with the red blush on her skin. She ran her fingers through her long hair that was the same color as her scales before laughing nervously.
“They, uh, couldn’t make it fit.” She admitted. “Lamias require a lot of room because of our tails.” She swished the end of her tail through the air. “Because of that, our beds are pretty large. Sorry about that, um, you’ll be sharing it with me.” Jaune’s eyes widened. “Not sexually or anything! Just, Lamias are cold-blooded, and it would be helpful if you were there to keep me warm.”
Jaune nodded. “Okay, I don’t want you to get sick or anything. Besides, I have a lot of sisters, so I’m not unused to sharing a bed when it’s cold.” Yang smiled at that. “So, this is a large room. I guess everything had to be retrofitted for you, huh?”
Yang laughed. “Yeah, sorry about that. We have to have things a little larger, even with our contraction abilities.” She shrank down a little more to become eye-level with Jaune. “See? This is more comfortable for walking and talking, but not as much for sleeping or working. It takes too much concentration to keep my tail coiled up like this.”
“That makes sense, I guess. So, is there anything else I need to know about being your roommate? Food preferences or special traits?”
“I’m not venomous, if that’s what you’re wondering. I do have some natural Lamia magic and abilities, but those are mostly useless without formal training in the Grimmland University Sorcery Department.” Yang admitted. “As for food, if you’re offering to cook, I won’t turn you down. I don’t need anything special though. I’m not a vampire.”
Jaune nodded, his serious expression making her laugh. Her carefree demeanor made him relax and laugh a little too. “Sorry, I’ve just never met a—”
“Lamia? We’re not that common in Vale. We’re usually a nocturnal species, but I’m a special case. Half-human, remember?” Yang interrupted.
“I’ve never met any monsters, actually.” Jaune admitted. “My town is pretty small and I was kept at home most of the time because my family was overprotective.” Yang’s eyes widened.
“Dude, I’m so sorry! If I had known you weren’t familiar with us monsters at all, I would never have grabbed you with my tail!” Yang seemed really worried for some reason. “I mean, my stepmom and half-sister are human, so when I first hugged my stepmom for the first time, she screamed when my tail wrapped around her. She wasn’t very familiar with Lamias either.”
It was Jaune’s turn to laugh now. “Oh, don’t worry, Yang! I wasn’t scared of you at all. I was actually curious about how your tail worked, but I dropped that subject to focus on getting to know you.” Yang blushed a little as her tail extended out and rose to her face.
“I-It’s fine, you know. If you want to look at it. But!” Jaune jolted. “You have to promise to go drinking with me tonight. I have some friends to introduce you to before we get caught up in classes.”
“Of course, Yang. That sounds like fun.” Jaune smiled at her before taking a few steps closer. She blushed again before moving her tail towards him. Jaune gently touched it, making her stiffen. “Sorry, is this alright?”
“Y-Yeah, your hands are just so soft.” Yang commented. Jaune frowned, he was a farmer, his hands shouldn’t be soft. Jaune ran his fingers along her scales, marveling at how soft and smooth they were despite their rigidity. He was careful not to get his nails anywhere near the edges of her scales. “G-Gently! Please…” Jaune was touching the scales near the end of her tail and slowly moved down from there. “You didn’t have to stop…” Okay, Jaune was very confused now.
“Are you sure everything’s alright?” Jaune asked, slowly moving his hands off her tail.
Yang cleared her throat before patting her cheeks. “Okay, yeah. I’m fine, Jaune. Sorry, I forgot you’re not familiar with monster anatomy. That area…don’t touch it on any other Lamia, okay? Just me, okay? And!” Jaune flinched. “Don’t pet any animal-type monster’s ears, the tips of their tails, or the soft scales under any reptile-type’s necks. And don’t help preen the feathers of any monsters either!” Jaune just nodded with wide eyes, unsure of what was happening.
“Good! As long as you’re aware of that…” Yang looked down before looking up at him again with a bright smile. “I look forward to being your roommate, Jaune!” He smiled back at her before shaking her outstretched hand. “Also, whenever you want to pet my tail, just ask, okay?” She winked at him, making him unsure of whether or not she was joking.
“Maybe next year I’ll get a less-confusing roommate…” Jaune mumbled, getting a peal of laughter from Yang.
“Oh, Jaune. Don’t you know? Roommates at Beacon University are set for all four years! We’ll be roommates for a very long time. Maybe you’ll even figure me out by then.”
Jaune nodded, strangely excited and apprehensive about that opportunity. ‘Well, this year will certainly be interesting to say the least…”
The End.
