The story of Kkami

Summary:

How did Han get Kkami? How did Hyunjin’s parents react?

Work Text:

Being a shifter in the human world wasn't as bad as the shifter had originally thought. When the monster first approached the shifter and asked them if they wanted to live in the human realm, the shifter laughed. Who in their right mind would want to live in the human world? It sucks, and humans suck, or at least they thought so. But then the little monster started talking about his new human friend.

"He's super duper nice! Like nicer then anything here in the monster world! And he won't tell anyone that you're a monster! He'll take great care of you!"

The shifter still wasn't convinced though. There was no such thing as a nice human.

"Please, you have to go. It was his birthday and I didn't give him a gift and if I don't give him a gift I'll be such a bad friend and then he won't want to be my friend anymore and I don't want to lose him because I didn't even know what having a friend was until I met him and of i lose him I don't know what I'll do and-" the little monster then broke down into tears.

This was not what the shifter was expecting. They had never seen a monster cry before. Monsters were meant to be scary and feared, not...emotional.

"Please- I- I can't lose him! Please! I- I promise he- he's super nice and-and he'll take gr-great care of you. He- he takes c-care of- of me. He-he brush-brushes my h-hair, and t-tells me so many c-cool things. Please, he-he wants a dog but-but his parents s-said n-n-no, so please c-come with me. If- if- if I br-br-bring you to him, you can be a d-dog and live h-happily. And- and if you don't like- like it you can come home."

The shifter agreed quickly after that. Whoever this human was had to be powerful to make the monster cry like that, and the shifter didn't want to experience whatever the monster or human would plan if they didn't agree.

When they got to the humans house, however, they learned he wasn't powerful, he was just a kid. A sweet and innocent human kid.

The little monster was wrong when he said that the human was nice. No, the human was the most kindhearted, caring, and empathetic creature the shifter would ever have the pleasure of meeting.

The shifter didn't know how to be a dog, something all three learned after the shifter kept eating everything it could get it's teeth on. So of course, Hyunjin would steal his dads iPad at night and show the shifter dog videos to help the shifter act like a dog more. But even then, Hyunjin never yelled or scolded the shifter for doing non-dog like things.

"Oh actually kkami, you can't walk on two legs you have to walk on all four."

Said shifter was currently walking on its hind legs trying to grab Hyunjin's spaceship clock to turn off its alarm.

"And you can't grab things silly," the child laughed,"dogs don't have thumbs! Here, I'll get it." And the child did. Hyunjin quickly turned off his alarm and approached the shifter.

"You walk like this," and soon Hyunjin was on his hands and knees crawling around. "See? This is how dogs walk." The shifter then laid its front paws onto the ground and copied the child. "You got it! Great job kkami!" And maybe the shifter liked when the child got happy at them doing a good job.

Soon though, the shifter was able to act like any normal dog. You would never even be able to tell that the dog wasn't an actual dog, and it was all thanks to the little human boy.

The shifter learned though that not all humans were nice. For instance, his parents were not very happy when the shifter met them for the first time.

"Hyunjin," his dad said sternly to the tear eyed child who was clutching kkami tightly to his chest," you can not keep this dog. We'll go drop him off at the shelter tomorrow."

"But dad I promise I can take great care of him!"
Hyunjin tried to argue.

"If these humans think they can just put me in a kind they are dumber then the fucking troll monsters," kkami thought as he watched the tears fall from the human child's eyes.

Ok, maybe kkami is very much attached to the human child even though it's only be a short time, but sue them ok? And maybe seeing the human cry about not being able to keep them is also making the shifter want to cry.

The shifter started to struggle in Hyunjin's grasp, causing him to let go of the monster. Kkami walked up to the human Hyunjin called "dad," and started to rub his head on his leg. Some of the most dangerous monsters out there were some of the cutest ones for a reason, humans love cute and the shifter knew that for fact.

The dad human then, like they had planned, crouched down to their level. Once his face was close enough, kkami jumped on their hind legs getting into the dad's face. Instead of licking him though, they rubbed their little nose against the dad's. It's something Hyunjin loved to do to them, so maybe the dad would like it too. He must have because the next thing the shifter knew was that they were being lifted into the air.

"Ok," the dad said, "you can keep him." Hyunjin began to cheer loudly at that, but his dad stopped him by saying,"But you're going to be the one in charge of him. You're going to have to feed him, water him, take him out to potty and walks, and keep him out of trouble. Are you sure you can do that Hyunjin?"

"Definitely," the dad didn't need to know that Hyunjin didn't actually have to do any of that, but it is what it is.

After their first official meeting, the shifter and the parents got along great. Despite how they reacted originally, the shifter was treated like royalty at the Hwang resident by Hyunjin and his parents. Both Hyunjin and Hyunjin's dad slipped table scraps to Kkami at breakfast and dinner. Hyunjin's mom took them to the groomers often to keep their coat soft and pretty. Kkami was allowed on any and all furniture which apparently not all dogs were allowed to do. And by fair the shifter favorite part, they are allowed to sleep wherever they want, even the parents bed. All in all, it's a pretty great life.
