Chapter 1: Pictures and Letters

Chapter Text

It had been a few days since Y/N had felt a growing unease in her heart. Aizawa, who was usually warm and affectionate, seemed to be distant and aloof lately. They couldn't pinpoint the exact reason, but every time they tried to bring it up, he would brush it off with a half-hearted excuse.

One evening, Y/N decided to confront Aizawa about their concerns. They were sitting on the couch, trying to enjoy a movie together, but the tension in the air was palpable.

"Shota, is everything okay?" Y/N asked tentatively, their eyes searching his face for any hint of what might be bothering him.

Aizawa looked away, his gaze fixed on the TV screen. "Yeah, everything's fine. Just a bit tired from work."

Y/N frowned, knowing that something was off. "It's more than that, isn't it? You've been acting distant for days now. Please, talk to me."

Aizawa sighed, rubbing the back of his neck. "It's nothing, really. Just some stress from work, like I said."

Y/N's heart sank at his dismissive response. They knew him well enough to recognize when something was bothering him, and it wasn't just work-related stress. But they didn't want to push too hard, afraid that he might pull away even more.

"Okay, but if you ever want to talk about it, I'm here for you," Y/N said softly, trying to keep the hurt out of their voice.

Aizawa nodded, his eyes still avoiding theirs. "Thanks. I appreciate that."

As the movie continued playing, Y/N couldn't help but feel a growing sense of unease. They had always been open and honest with each other, sharing their joys and sorrows. But now, it felt like there was a wall between them, and Y/N didn't know how to break through it.

Over the next few days, Y/N noticed Aizawa becoming more evasive, making excuses to avoid spending time together. They couldn't shake the feeling that something was amiss, and it gnawed at them day and night. Every attempt to address the issue was met with vague responses, leaving them feeling more uncertain and vulnerable.

One afternoon, as Y/N was sorting through the mail, a plain envelope caught their attention. Y/N stood in their small apartment; the air thick with tension as they clutched the letter in their trembling hands. The envelope bore no name, but Y/N knew it would hold the painful truth they had been dreading.

With a deep breath, they opened the envelope, and inside, they found a letter and a stack of pictures—images of Aizawa with another woman. Their heart sank as they saw the smiles and laughter shared between them, a stark contrast to the tears now staining Y/N's cheeks.

Dear Y/N,

I hope this letter finds you in good health, though I'm aware that my words may cause some discomfort. Please know that my intention is not to intrude or bring unnecessary pain, but I felt compelled to share something that I witnessed.

A few nights ago, I happened to be at a bar, and coincidentally, I saw Aizawa there with someone else. They were laughing and seemed to be enjoying each other's company, which struck me as unusual considering their close relationship with you.

I cannot fathom the emotions you must be experiencing right now, and it is not my place to speculate on the nature of their interaction. I simply wanted to bring this to your attention in case it holds any significance to you.

I took some photographs discreetly, uncertain if I should interfere, but I thought you deserved to be informed. I have enclosed the pictures in this letter, but I leave it up to you whether or not you wish to confront Aizawa about this encounter.

Please understand that I'm not trying to meddle or create drama. My only concern is your well-being and happiness. If there's anything I can do to support you during this time, please do not hesitate to reach out.

Take care of yourself, Y/N. I hope that clarity and peace find their way to you, regardless of the path you choose to take.

With genuine concern,
A Witness in the Shadows

As Y/N put the letter down, they felt a mix of emotions—anger, heartbreak, and the weight of betrayal. Aizawa saw Y/N looking at a letter and pictures then he recognized the pictures Y/N was holding. Aizawa, guilt-ridden and remorseful, stood before them, unable to meet their tear-filled gaze.

"Sho… H-how could you do this to me, Shota? After everything we've been through, after all the promises we made to each other," Y/N's voice shook with hurt.

"I don't have an excuse. It was a moment of weakness, and I regret it every single day. But I can't change what I did," Aizawa replied softly.

"A moment of weakness? Is that what our love meant to you? Just a fleeting whim that you could throw away?" Y/N choked back a sob.

"No, it's not like that. You mean everything to me, but I'm only human. I make mistakes," Aizawa clasped their hands.

"Mistakes? Cheating on someone you claim to love isn't a mistake Shota! It's betrayal!” Y/N's anger flared.

"I know… and I hate myself for hurting you like this," Aizawa's voice filled with pain.

"Do you even understand what you've done? Every time I will close my eyes, all I will see is you with her." Y/N's voice broke.

"I wish I could take it all back. I wish I could erase that moment from my life" Aizawa said desperately.

"Erase it? Just like how you erase the quirks of those villains you capture? I just wish you could Shota because damn it hurts so fucking much! But you can’t… you can't erase the pain you've caused me!" Y/N's words were filled with bitter sarcasm.

"Please… Y/N… give me another chance. I-I'll do anything to make it right. I'll prove to you that I can change!" Aizawa pleaded.

"It's too late, Shota… I… don’t think I can go back to how things were," Y/N pulled away, avoiding his outstretched hand.

"P-please… don't shut me out. I love you, Y/N…. I can't bear to lose you" Aizawa whispered, his voice cracking with emotion.

"Love? Are you being serious right now? If this… is love… then I don't want ANY of it. Because LOVE… shouldn't hurt like this!" Y/N's pain was evident in their broken voice.

"I-i never meant to hurt you… I never wanted any of this," Aizawa's voice trembled with remorse.

"But you did… a-at that time… you did, Shota." Y/N's tears flowed freely.

"Y/N… p-please, I'll do anything to make you happy again…. just tell me what I need to do," Aizawa pleaded.

"There's nothing you can do, Shota. The damage is done… I don't think I can ever trust you again" Y/N closed their eyes, struggling to find strength in the midst of heartbreak.

"Please… don't give up on us… on me. I'll fight for you, for us, with everything I have… just please… Y/N…" Aizawa's desperation was palpable.

"I need time, Aizawa…. but for now, I need to be alone," Y/N's voice quivered with sorrow.

"I… I understand. I'll give you all the time you need," Aizawa whispered.

As Y/N turned away, leaving Aizawa standing in the silent room, the weight of their shattered love hung heavy in the air like an unyielding sillage, leaving them both to face the consequences of a heartbroken bond.
