Work Text:

Shu was supposed to be lucky. Emphasis on supposed.

He had a lucky charm, for sure, but he definitely lacked the charm when out of his Ladybug uniform. It was a fact. Just like water was wet (not really, actually, since the things that the water touches is wet), and the sky is blue, Shu Yamino was everything but lucky.

It wasn’t just that. It was also his crush on the stoic mafia heir Luca Kaneshiro, who smiled today at recess. Shu wanted to believe it was to him, since he accidentally bumped into the staircase leading to class, his books fell over, and Luca tried to help him.

“Shu, where are you today?” said Ike to his side. Right, they were in class. “You’re always somewhere else but today you took off.”

“I’m sorry, it’s just—” It wasn’t a secret for his best friend Ike that Shu had a not so subtle crush on Luca, but to say it out loud was something else.

Right when he was going to say a lame excuse, something more important came up. More important than any boy crush he had going on.

A big crash surrounded the area near them, and he swore he saw something bit and round in the distance. His Ladybug senses came up like a shiver of confidence.

“Lemme guess, duty calls?” said Ike. Shu was so glad to have him as a confidant for his secret, he always came up with the best excuses for his abstinence between classes.

“I owe you one, Ike” he said, while going out of the classroom. He was glad his good notes could substitute for his attendance. Teachers just loved him, and while he wasn’t the teacher’s pet, he was well behaved in general, and never caused any unwanted ruckus.

Not like the one that seemed to be going around in the city when he exited the school.

A blast of extremely loud music was destroying part of the city, small shops were blown and bridges collapsed. He knew what he needed to do.

Shu got to a side of a building, inside an alley where no one in the busy city would look at him. His shikigami came out of his bag, and with a nod to their heads they knew what was going to happen.

After he transformed, long hair flowing with the wind, he used his powers to get to where the music was the loudest.

“Hey Bug, shall we dance?” a familiar voice said.

It was Chat Noir, his partner in justice, and probably the only person who still said “pog” out loud. Aside from Shu, obviously, but not because he wanted to, it only came with being that close to someone you just get stuff from them.

“Let’s first end with this, end we can dance all you want, little cub” Shu answered.

More than a cat, Shu always thought of Chat as a lion. Big, strong, and blond mane that blew with the wind, only tied with a pin to keep it in place.

The akuma seemed to be inside a megaphone, as the person was using it to shout from it and destroy everything around it, sound waves visible even to the naked eye.

“Give me your miraculous, Ladybug and Chat Noir, I’ll soon be heard by everyone in Japan!” said the akumatized person. He seemed to have a sadness in his voice, unsure of his own powers.

Shu knew that the person was just baffling, but the loud noises were overwhelming to even think about something to do.

By pure instinct he grabbed his pink magic ball that he always carried as Ladybug, chanting as some sort of device came to his hands.

It was… a rifle?

Okay, that was too much, he thought. But then his vision came to light. Black and purple sports came as objects, just as a street light, the person’s throat (harsh, maybe it was the actual choker he was wearing), and Chat himself.

He was confused for a second, but then it all came together. His powers came from the megaphone, but the person couldn’t use it without his voice.

“Chat! I need you to distract him!” he yelled between the loud noises. “Say something, um, mean!” it seemed impossible, since Chat was actually the nicest person on Earth, but he could maybe try.

“Mean? Umm. Your face is actually kind of lame!” Chat said to the akumatized person. His head was kind of like a devil emoji, but black and had blue and purple lights, and reacted just like a face would, this time with an angry face.

“That’s not true!” the person said from the other side of the bridge.

Shu fixed his aim as to shoot for the first time at the street light, making a big sound as it shattered, while the akumatized person got his arms in front of his helmet, as if he forgot no glass could shatter it, or could it?

“Quick! Another one! Keep distracting him!”

“Hey so do you like music?” Chat asked to the akumatized person. Shu looked at him like he was nuts. Wait. “W-Would you like to C Deez nuts?”

The person cringed, and grabbed the megaphone to defend himself, and get Chat’s evil comments subside, but then Shu aimed the second shot at his actual choker, right where the helmet ended and the rest of his costume started.

It hurt the three of them just by thinking about it, Chat even getting his hand to his own throat with an “ouch”, but Shu’s aim was always on point. Quickly, the akumatized person tried to grab the megaphone for the third time, but he couldn’t speak. Not a sound could be heard from his voice, so the actual danger was gone.

Once he was distracted and confused by his now mute state, Chat shot the megaphone with his destruction miraculous gun, making it disappear in thin air. Then, a butterfly came out of it, and it was Shu’s turn again to do his job.

The akumatized person came down to where they were standing tall, confused, his helmet now revealed a black haired person with blue highlights.

“W-what happened to me? I was just writing some lyrics and then…”

“Don’t worry, we got you.” Chat said, extending a hand to help him get up. “Try to have a safe way back home, alright?”

Chat and Shu looked at eachother, after a job well done, and said “POG!” as they fistbumped.

“So, about that dance?” Chat grinned, a laugh underneath those words as if he was waiting for a joke to land.

“Maybe next time, big guy” Shu said, with a long nailed finger under Chat’s chin.

Chat’s smile was as big as ever, his big canines showing as an actual lion. If the sun would be a person, no question it would actually be Chat. If only the heavy weight of all of Tokyo wouldn’t be under their two shoulders, and the circumstances a little bit more different, maybe he would give him a chance.

Back to reality, their miraculous started beeping, which meant danger to their actual identities, so it was a tacit farewell.

Shu was already gone, but Chat stayed there a bit more, letting his disguise fall and become the mafia heir he was always going to be, waiting for his Lucubs to fetch him. He wished luck was more on his side, so he could smile at his Ladybug for real, without a silly costume in the middle.
