“And that is how I saved all of Pyrrhia,” Anemone said. “With the help of my brother too, I guess.”
“Woah,” Pike gasped in absolute astonishment. “That’s super awesome, Princess.”
“Right? I wish I could give you guys cool stuff too, but alas, I promised to be modest and only use my powers for something that benefits everyone. Sorry guys!”
“So when are you going to tell Queen Coral about your recent affairs?” A Seawing in the crowd asked.
Anemone froze. “What affairs…?”
"You know,” The Seawing looked down and started fidgeting with his claws. “The one with that Rainwing, there."
Everyone turned to look at Tamarin.
“She's not- what- I-” Anemone blushed. “We're just, uhm, friends!”
“Wait, are you guys talking about me, or-” Tamarin asked, wondering if there was another Rainwing at this Seawing meet up.
"N-no!” Anemone yelped.
"Yes!” Another Seawing said in unison, quickly retreating back into the crowd after catching Anemone's glare.
"Well, you do always pick flowers for her and force us to get her the first mangos at the lunch bar, or read scrolls for her-” Pike started to say.
"That does not mean anything! That's just what best friends do!" Anemone snapped.
“Uhm, yes, right?” Tamarin nodded, playing along.
“And I will stick my talons into anyone who disagrees,” Anemone threatened.
“Who's sticking talons into who?!” Tsunami walked into their secret hideout, frowning. “You guys do know that if all the Seawings in the school go missing during class, minus Turtle, plus Tamarin, it's very obvious what's happening, you know that, right?”
“IF I TELL YOU A VERY IMPORTANT SEAWING ROYALTY SECRET WILL YOU LET US GO?” Pike blurted.
“DON'T YOU EVEN DARE.” Anemone threatened.
Tsunami sighed, “... What?”
“ Well…”
~
“Hey Tamarin!” Anemone greeted.
Tamarin jumped, not sensing Anemone at first. “Hello Anemone. You smell… Like lilies?”
“You guessed it! Your senses are getting better, after you know, the uhm, burn,” The Seawing stammered.
“Thank you. You’ve helped a lot,” Tamarin smiled.
“Do you want me to read you something from the library? Tsunami came back with new scrolls from the lost continent! Isn’t that exciting?”
“That would be nice.”
~
“Wow,” Kinkajou said, wide-eyed. “I did NOT know anyone was interested in Anemone. Would have never guessed.”
“Uh-huh.” Turtle nodded.
“And Tamarin? I SWEAR if she puts a stupid love spell on her, she will hear the end of it from me! Tamarin is like, my best friend.”
“I would have never seen it coming, yet, they seem so perfect…” Turtle narrowed his eyes.
“WE SHOULD PUT A LOVE SPELL ON ANEMONE! Wait, but she’s already in love though, right?” Kinkajou poked Turtle.
Turtle shook his head. “No, that wouldn’t be fair. Or work. Remember? Animus magic is broken?”
“Ohhhhh… Well, nevermind, because I have an even better idea.”
~
“It says… ‘Tamarin, meet me at the library, at the time when the sun and the moons are still out. Today. By yourself. Love, Kinkajou of the Rainwings, heart heart.’” Coconut squinted, still getting used to reading, and all the silly little lines and curves.
“Oh. Uh, thank you, Coconut.” Tamarin said.
“It’s no problem, Tamarin. You always did great with the gardens.”
“I didn’t know anyone noticed. Uhm, what does it look like outside?”
“Uhh, exactly like what Kinkajou wrote down. Need help getting to the library?”
“No thanks.” Tamarin turned to leave. “I’m sure Queen Glory is taking care of the gardens.”
“It’s no problem!” Coconut replied. “I think Kinkajou might’ve forgotten you couldn’t read the note, or see the time.”
~
“And, of course, I was there to see it all.” Anemone boasted, “Have you ever read ‘The Princess and the Blobfish’ written by my mother?”
Many Seawings nodded vigorously.
“That princess was supposed to be me! I watched her write it. Did you know I was supposed to marry Whirlpool? ” Anemone scoffed. “Good thing he's dead. Err, death of old age. Rare of a dragon, right?”
“Hey, Anemone!” Turtle whispered, tapping Anemone’s arm.
“Wha- Oh, hey Turtle.”
“I need to talk to you for a bit, in private.”
“Okay…?”
~
“PSST! TAMARIN! OVER HEREEE!” Kinkajou whispered very loudly behind a bookcase, loud enough for a Sandwing in a hammock by the window, annoyed enough to shush Kinkajou. Either way, she still managed to get Tamarin’s attention.
“Kinkajou? What is it?” Tamarin asked, sitting down next to Kinkajou, being a lot quieter than she was.
“We need to talk. About something very, very, serious.”
“Which is…?”
“ANEMONE!!” Kinkajou earned yet another shush. “Are you going to do anything about this? CAN’T YOU TELL SHE, YOU KNOW, LOVES YOU?!”
“Kinkajou,” Starflight looked about his desk above the scrolls. “Uhm, if you don’t get quieter, I might have to ask you to leave.”
“Right, right, sorry!” Kinkajou ducked her head lower and said much quieter, “Anyways, do you like her too?”
“I-”
“Wait, no, don’t answer that. Well, Turtle is getting Anemone to- uh, that’s not relevant either. Okay, so, at the Seawing cave, right after classes end. Tomorrow. Got it?”
“Alright…?”
~
“What is it, Turtle? I’m kind of busy.” Anemone glared at Turtle.
“I won’t take long, promise.” Turtle said. “Tomorrow, right after class, meet here.”
“Why.” Anemone demanded (but also kinda asked.)
“Because, uhm, Kinkajou wants to give you a favor…?”
Anemone scoffed, “As if I’d trust anything from her! She wants me dead , in case you can’t tell. She’s a rather violent Rainwing. Wow, that’s a weird sentence.”
“Tamarin wants to give you a favor-?”
“Fine,” Anemone paused, and then seemed to blush a bit. “Wait, did you just-”
~
“Tamarin?”
“Anemone?”
Anemone strolled into the cave, looking around to see if anyone was watching.
Hm, just Tamarin? Where is Turtle…?
From the other entry of the cave, then came Tamarin as well. “Is Kinkajou here too?”
“No. Just us,” Anemone replied. Why was she suspecting Kinkajou?
“Oh, okay. Maybe she isn’t here yet?” Tamarin said, awkwardly.
“Turtle said you were- uhm- getting me something?” Anemone asked, a bit nervous. “I didn’t know this was some meet-up,” she thought.
“Oh. Kinkajou just told me to meet here. I-I didn’t bring anything, sorry.” Tamarin admitted. She thought about what else Kinkajou said during their conversation at the Library.
“CAN’T YOU TELL SHE LOVES YOU?!” Oh. OH. Kinkajou set Tamarin up for a date. She probably was supposed to bring something. So much for a good first date.
“Oh. That’s fine. Being here with you is enough.”
“Thank you.” Tamarin’s scales turned a bit pink.
~
“Oh. My. GOD! LOOK!” Kinkajou poked Turtle. “Tamarin is turning pink! Ooooh~”
“I see that. Awe, they’re cute together.” Turtle whispered.
“RIGHT! I would have never, never in a million years would have thought of this! Those two! AAA!” Kinkajou fangirled. Just not quiet enough too-
“Tamarin? Do you hear that?” Anemone asked, looking around. “I swear I heard something.”
The cave instantly fell silent. Except for a small ripple of water in the river next to the wall of the cave.
Tamarin paused. “You mean the- it sounds like- water?”
Anemone walked over to the river. “Yeah, it is.”
Tamarin walked next to Anemone, after hearing her footsteps.
“Okay guys, you can stop stalking us now!” Anemone yelled at the river.
A dragon-shaped head color of the river looked up. It was Kinkajou. “Ugh, sorry. But also your welcome for setting you guys up.”
Turtle came out of the river too. “But mostly sorry for watching you guys.”
“Aww, my older brother is watching out for me, and setting me up. How sweet.” Anemone wrapped a wing around Turtle, hiding her sarcasm (not) as hard as she dragonly can. “How could I ever thank you?”
“And me too!” Kinkajou perked up. “But not because of you. For Tamarin .”
"Oh, that makes it so much sweeter! Thank you, Kinkajou."
Then was an awkward silence.
“Okay... Uhm, so, What now…?” Tamarin said, very much confused.
“Well, are you guys, like, dating now?” Kinkajou asked, doing a horrible job at holding back a smile.
“Uhmm,” Anemone looked at Tamarin, “What do you think-?”
Tamarin smiled sheepishly. “I mean, yeah? If you feel the same.”
“I do.”
~
“Wow. Oh my god.” Tsunami whispered to Sunny, next to the cave opening, away from view. “I mean, they should be doing homework, but okay, great for my sister and her new girlfriend.”
“Oh, I’m so happy for them. How cute!” Sunny whispered back, excited for the new found couple.
“Mhm. Wow, looks like Queen Coral isn’t going to have any grand-dragonets. Haha.”
“There’s always Auklet.”
“Hm.”
