Work Text:
Izuku was anxiously pacing back and forth in their shared apartment. He was due to give birth to their child in a few weeks, and his mate Katsuki Bakugou had been away on a mission overseas for the past few months. Izuku had been counting down the days until Katsuki's return, and he couldn't wait to see him again.
Izuku's phone rang, and he quickly answered it, hoping it was Katsuki. "Katsuki, is that you?" he asked eagerly.
"Yeah, it's me," Katsuki replied, his voice strained.
"When are you coming home?" Izuku asked, trying to hide the worry in his voice.
"Soon, Izuku. I promise," Katsuki said, his voice faltering for a moment.
Izuku could tell something was wrong, but he didn't want to push Katsuki too hard. "Okay, just be safe, okay?" he said softly.
"I will, Izuku. I love you and our unborn child so much," Katsuki said, his voice cracking with emotion.
"I love you too, Katsuki," Izuku said, tears welling up in his eyes.
Katsuki hung up the phone, his heart heavy with the knowledge that he had lied to his mate. He had been injured in battle, and the wound was slowly bleeding him out. He knew he didn't have much time left, but he didn't want to worry Izuku any more than he already was.
As Katsuki lay there, he thought about his mate and their unborn child. He wished he could be there to see their child's first steps, to hear their first words. He wished he could grow old with Izuku by his side, but he knew that wasn't meant to be.
Katsuki's breathing grew shallow, and he knew his time was running out. With his last bit of strength, he called Izuku back. "Izuku, I need to tell you something," he said weakly.
"What is it, Katsuki?" Izuku asked, his voice trembling.
"I love you and our child more than anything in the world," Katsuki said, his voice barely above a whisper. "Promise me you'll take care of them."
"I promise, Katsuki," Izuku said, tears streaming down his face.
Katsuki took one last deep breath and then went still. He was gone.
Izuku sat there, the phone still in his hand, unable to comprehend what had just happened. He had lost the love of his life, the father of his child. The tears flowed freely now as he realized that Katsuki would never be coming home.
But he knew he had to be strong for their child. He would raise their child to know how much their father loved them and how much he had sacrificed for them. And even though Katsuki was no longer with them, his love would live on in their child and in the memories they shared.
As the years passed, Izuku continued to raise their child, a son named Hiro, with love and care. But the pain of Katsuki's death never faded. Izuku would often find himself looking at Hiro and seeing Katsuki in him, from the way he walked to the sound of his laughter.
Hiro didn't understand why his mother would cry whenever she looked at him. He knew that his father had died before he was born, but he couldn't understand why his mother would be sad when she looked at him.
"Mama, why are you crying?" Hiro asked, looking up at Izuku with concern.
Izuku wiped away his tears and smiled at Hiro. "I'm just so happy to have you, my sweet boy," he said, his voice choked with emotion.
Hiro didn't understand, but he wrapped his arms around Izuku and hugged him tightly. Izuku held him close, feeling the warmth of his son's embrace and the weight of his loss all at once.
As Hiro grew up, he started to look more and more like his father. His spiky blond hair and fiery personality reminded Izuku of Katsuki every day. And with each passing year, Izuku found himself crying more and more whenever he looked at his son.
One day, Hiro finally asked his mother the question that had been on his mind for years. "Mama, why do you cry whenever you look at me?" he asked, looking up at Izuku with curious eyes.
Izuku took a deep breath, trying to compose himself. "It's because you remind me so much of your father," he said, his voice barely above a whisper.
Hiro's eyes widened in surprise. "Really?" he asked, a small smile spreading across his face.
Izuku nodded, tears welling up in his eyes again. "Yes, you look just like him. And every time I look at you, I'm reminded of how much I loved him and how much I miss him," he said, his voice breaking with emotion.
Hiro didn't know how to respond, but he hugged his mother tightly. "I love you, Mama," he said softly.
Izuku hugged him back, feeling grateful for the love and support of his son. Even though Katsuki was gone, Hiro was a reminder of the love they shared and the family they had created. And as Izuku held him close, he knew that Katsuki's spirit would always be with them, watching over them and guiding them through the challenges of life.

Younger Hiro days
As Hiro grew older, Izuku still struggled with the loss of his mate, Katsuki. But he did his best to keep Katsuki's memory alive for Hiro. Whenever they were alone at home, Izuku would play their favorite song, a slow and tender melody that reminded him of their time together.
As the music filled the room, Izuku would take Hiro's hand and lead him to the center of the living room. They would slow dance together, swaying to the music as if they were the only two beings in the world. Izuku would close his eyes and imagine that it was Katsuki he was holding, and he would whisper his love for him under his breath.
Hiro loved these moments with his mother. He loved feeling the warmth of Izuku's embrace and the softness of his fur against his skin. He didn't understand the pain that his mother was feeling, but he knew that these moments of intimacy and closeness were important to him.
"Mama, I love this song," Hiro would say, looking up at Izuku with a smile.
Izuku would smile back, feeling grateful for the love and affection of his son. "It was your father's favorite song too," he said softly.
Hiro's eyes would widen in surprise. "Really?" he asked, amazed.
Izuku would nod, his eyes misty with tears. "Yes, he used to hold me just like this and we would dance together," he said, his voice breaking with emotion.
Hiro didn't know how to respond, but he hugged his mother tightly. "I wish I could have met him," he said softly.
Izuku hugged him back, feeling the weight of his loss all over again. "I wish you could have too, my sweet boy," he said, his voice barely above a whisper.
As they danced together, Izuku knew that these moments with his son were precious. They reminded him of the love he shared with Katsuki, and the family they had created. And even though Katsuki was gone, his memory lived on in their hearts, and in the tender moments they shared together.
